Chapter 2: Nats Memories; an Interlude

Chapter Text

The events in this take place after Natasha gets the note, but before she finds Yelena

In a flash of light everybody was transported to a semi-dark room, with rows of seats and a screen, like a large theater.

"The fuck-" Tony questioned, turning his head to find his former teammates as well as a few strangers, then turning the other direction to find two blonde and brunette women, Natasha, and an old, large man, "Who are you?"

Everyone, except for Natasha and the three people near her, turned to see who Stark was speaking towards, finding the blonde and Natasha to be aiming guns at each other.

Natasha kicked the gun out of Yelena's hand, while Yelena did the same to Natasha. Both women spoke in russian for a moment, before dropping their guns, only to charge after each other. Natsha wrapped her legs around Yelena's neck, ready to slam her into the ground, but instead Yelena twisted out of her grip, and attempted the same, only to be torn off as well. Yelena tried to throw Natasha on the ground, but was stopped by the voice of the fat man.

"Girls, dont behave like children." He said in a thick slavic accent.

Everyone watched the events, confused as to what was happening, even Clint looked lost.

A feminine voice's laughter filled the room, although it didnt come from anyone there. "Hello, I'm- well, who I am isnt important What is important, however, is that you see your story, so that you may prevent this divide from causing further problems. To understand each others views, you must understand each others past. And so, for this reason, we'll start off with the, objectively, most mysterious of you all; Natalia Alinovia Romanova."

"Natalanova- who?"

Natasha sighed "Me."

"Anyways... while we wait, before your pasts, we'll give you little clips of Natasha's life, starting young, but not so young it'll interfere with what you will learn, so about 15 and up."

The screen lights up as people take their seats.

In a large room; with mirrors, horizontal bars, and hardwood floors; 20 or so teen girls stand in a plie.

"пируэт"

"Nat?" Steve asks.

"Pirouette; a lot of words, if they sound similar to a word, it's probably the translation of that word."

"Sorry." The voice says. "Alright, I fixed it, anything said will be translated to english, with certain exceptions."

The girls all push into a pirouette.

As they looked at the girls; who all had matching, dull colored tights and duel braids, which each had small red bows tied in the end; they saw one red haired girl, who they could identify as their friend.

"Is that mini Natasha, oh come on, how could you not tell me you were a ballerina before you went on to be a little assasin. I'm good with secrets." Tony mocked.

Clint learned over to Tony and whisperer in his ear, "She was already an assasin and spy at that point." Before leaning away, and laughing a bit as he watched Tony's proud look disappear slightly.

"Natalia." A man beckoned. "Come here."

"And who is he?"

"Drekov" Natasha and the blonde woman answered.

"And who is she." Stark asked, pointing his finger and Yelena.

"Yelena."

"And them."

"I'm Melina and this is Alexi."

Drekov lead Natasha into a room adjacent to where she'd been dancing in, in which the Winter Soldier stood.

"Wonderful. And you thought to tell NO ONE!" Tony screamed, still frustrated over recent events.

"Natalia, this is the Winter Soldier, James, he's a hydra super soldier, was the assasin behind JFK, Howard Stark, the attempted assassinations of Peggy Carter, Nicholas Fury, and many others. And Soldier, this is Natalia, my star widow, trained in active espionage by the Red Gaurdian and the Iron Widow, put through the red room twice from the age of two-"

"You were two?" Steve asked.

"Yeah, you weren't aware."

"I don't think any of us were Nat, you never even told me." Clint said.

"I assumed you joined, at the youngest, as a teen like the witch over there." Tony added.

"You always talk like you deserve to be punished for the things you did, but you never even had a chance to make any choices, that's not on you. Yes, you hurt people, but you're making amends." Steve said.

"-under the guidance of Madame B, Ivan, and I. James here is going to be staying in the red room while hydra and our older widows partner on an important mission." He turns to Bucky, "Natalia will be assisting you on a small mission, you two will pull all attention away from our other agents during their mission. I know you won't disappoint."

Natasha and Bucky walk out of the room, leading to a hallway and then out of the building.

"So, super soldier, do you mind if I play music, it'll be on my walkman and all, so you'll hear it."

"Walkmans are superior." Quill yelled.

"..."

"Strong and silent type, I see, I'll be taking that as a yes." She put in a tape which had its label peeled off. "A long, long time ago-"

The screen faded off.

Yelena, with tears in her vision, reached over and grabbed onto Natasha's hand, who squeezed back.

"I didn't know Russians were a fan of American music back then."

"We- uh- we weren't, but, um, I found some exceptions to be somewhat necessary."

The screen fades back on, Natasha and Bycky are in the middle of a crowded street.

"It's full of people here, we need to cause a scene, but not so much that it leads back to our handlers." Bucky said.

"I have a plan. Give me a knife." He hands her a small dagger. "This should do, stay over there for incase." She said while pointing at a broken lamppost about 20 feet from where they were.

He walks to the lamppost as she walks into an alley.

"What's your plan here."

"You look younger than me." Peter says, amazed.

She takes the dagger, screams loudly, and stabs it right into her left lung, and falls to the floor.

Various forms of "Oh my god!" are heard around the theater.

Passerbys in the street scream as they look to find the teen with a knife in her chest.

As everyone is focused on Natasha, who is pointing down the alley, as to make everyone think hee attacker escaped, a loud explosion goes off in the building across the street.

The screen fades out.

"Natasha!" Pepper screams, "Jesus, that was a good plan, not that I approve of it, but it was smart."

"Damn, remind me not to get on your bad side, I might get framed for murder." Tony joked light heartedly.

"If you get farther on my bad side, I'll be going to jail for murder." She joked back.

That's it until I get the script

Chapter 3: Our Word: 36 Questions

Chapter Text

I found a Black Widow script, however its poorly put together (it doesnt say who's speaking or what's happening, besides short blurbs that dont really do much, at least not when I need to know what's happening)

So...while I; A: Re-Write that script, B: Find a new script, or C: Wait for it to be free on Disney plus so I can write my own version; here is this

An edit of the song Our Word to describe the opening scene before we get there

Also, this will relate my own personal explanation for what Natasha thought happened to Yelena

A nineteen year old Natasha sits on a bed next to two young girls, one, around nine, with brown hair dyed green, and blue eyes, and the other, about seven, with blonde hair, and blue eyes.

"Who's children did you kidnap?" Tony joked.

"They're mine."

"No, seriously, you're like, what 14?"

"I'm serious, the girls reminded me of someone when I met them, they were being brought to the red room, and so I was allowed to raise them. And I did..." She trails off as though she's sad.

"Tell us the story, pleeeeeeease." The young blonde one asked, while the brunette nodded her head violently in agreement.

"Alright. When I was a little girl, like really little, like eight or so. I was playing in my father's study-"

"If you were there since you were two, how did you play in his study?" Bruce interrupted.

"You'll see later." The voice answers.

"-a place in the house I wasn't supposed to go. My father fancied himself a soldier, his study was filled with soviet decor. He kept a shield in a duffel on the top of a shelf, and it shattered on the ground when I slammed the door."

"Oh my goooood" Yelena said, laughing the way a kid does when someone is called to the principal's office.

Natasha backhands Yelena on the arm.

Alexei had a loon of heartbreak on his face.

"I told my mother everything-"

"You told me you didn't know what happened to my shield."

"It's been nearly 25 years."

"I loved that shield."

"We know, dear."

"I told her I was so, so sorry. She told me 'Don't cry. When he comes home tonight we can make everything okay. This is all we have to say; 'We don't remember a shield in a duffel. It must have fallen off it's shelf alone.''"

"Lies."

"Alexei, she's a widow, what was I supposed to do."

"Agh." He grumbled, defeated by cursed logic.

"''We know you loved it, we're so sad it's broken, but neither one of us was even home.' And it's our word, yes, our word, against his.'"

Alexei continued to stew in his seat.

"Don't act as if you didn't help teach them to lie as well."

"So I hid screw ups from my father, made up school awards to please my mom."

"I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BEST SISTER WASN'T AN AWARD!"

"Yet you believed it." Natasha laughed a bit.

"Only because you were the best sister." Yelena pouted.

The rest of the avengers watched on, barely understanding the lyrics, let alone what these strangers and Natasha were even arguing(?) about.

"Whatever made the steak taste better, whatever kept the waters calm. I was told to keep their secrets, and in turn, they'd keep mine."

"You all did a good job at that." Yelena said, genuinely upset.

"As I got older I got dumber, I couldn't help but cross the line. Three times I nearly wrecked our lives, three times we nearly came to ruin, three times went crying to my parents, who said they'd make it go away. Yes, this is all we had to say 'We never rented a house in Aurora.'"

"Where?" Parker asked, although he was not the only one confused, nobody knew where Aurora was, barring the group Natasha was talking with.

"'We didn't see Camille the day she died.'"

"She was that girl who picked on me for my name, right?"

"...yeah..." Natasha replied, as though she didn't just confirm she had killed her baby sisters ex-classmate, or that their parents had covered it up, and that, once again, nobody told her anything about anything.

"''We haven't been CCCP in some years now, so we don't care that you think we spied.' And it's our word, yes our word, it's our word, yes, our word, against theirs."

"What the fuck is CCCP?" Tony asked.

"Language." Natasha smirked.

"It's the proper term for the USSR, dumbass." Yelena replied, bored of his questions.

"Language!"

"Nat..." Steve reprimanded.

"Somebody was paid to make it go away, everyone was paid to make the problems go away. Doesn't matter who gets screwed, or who is blamed, or what you need to do to clear your name. An inconvenient truth can be easily erased. When she was about six, w e were living in Newark."

"Where on Mi- Earth is that?" Thor's voice boomed, although his question went unanswered as well.

"I developed some fun habits, put the FBI to work."

"You said you were like eight-" Tony began.

"I was 10, about to turn 11 in a couple months."

"-eleven, what the hell did you do to get on the FBI's radar- nevermind, you're you, it's not as insane as it initially seemed, plus I don't want to be an accomplice, even if the statute of limitations is probably up."

"I remember it so clearly, we were leaving home in a state of fright. To keep her calm, we played her music, and drove away in the dead of night. We saw the plane and slipped into it, and suddenly became aware, the USA had fucking shot her-"

"In front of children, really Romanoff." Steve chastised her.

"-I tried to get us in the air. And as we sat there helplessly, a million different thoughts came to me. I saw the red room hearing the news, 'A couple spies were caught today.' I thought about what they might say. 'Our widow, Tasha? No, she move to Kazan. She's very happy there or so we hear. She's always been so goddamned independent.'"

"Seems about right."

"'The years go by and now we barely see her. Our widow, Talia? You must be mistaken, you mean the girl we raised as if our own? We loved her so much, she felt like our child, but eventually we had to send her home.' It'd be their word, only their word, it'd be their word, only their word, on its own."

"Will we ever meet Grammy, and Grampy, and Auntie?" The blonde girl asked tiredly.

"Maybe someday, Anya, but now it's time you go to sleep, you too, Nadia." Natasha said, tucking the girls in before turning off the lights.

"That was kind of sweet." Clint chuckled at his friend.

"How come I haven't met Anya and Nadia." Lila pouted as she clambered into her aunt Natasha's lap.

Natasha remained silent for a second before responding "To be honest, I don't know where they've ended up. It's been many years, in fact, I haven't seen them in about 12 years. They'd be 20 and 18 now, and I probably wouldn't be able to recognize them I'd I saw them." She said, and due to her years of spy training, the sadness she felt didn't slip into her voice.

Okay, now for real, the next chapter wont be anything other than the first part of the movie (I'll be doing the intro separate, I know that, first chapter will be the opening scene, second chapter will be the opening credits, and then every other chapter will be whatever I feel like)

Chapter 4: American Dream in Ohio

Chapter Text

(A/N: Sorry this is so late, and sorry that the tense of words changes, there was some time between writing this, and I forgot I was doing present tense and swapped to past tense)

The screen turns on to a pretty view of the trees from an low angle before moving to show a blue haired pre-teen riding her bike through a suburban town

“Who’s the kid?” Tony asks.

“OHIO 1995”

“Wow! We’re gonna see how things were in the olden days.” Peter says excitedly.

“Watch your tongue, kid.” Tony lightheartedly warns.

Some children call for the girl, but what they call her is hard to make out. The girl waves to the three children and they wave to her as well before going back to playing

The girl rides into a driveway

The scene changes to show a younger blonde girl playing on the swings

The blue haired girl whistles a long note, and, offscreen, a whistle is heard in response

“This is giving me bad vibes, like… do you guys remember that Us movie? Idk why, but it's giving me those types of vibes.” Peter says.

“Same, I mean, this part is alright, but it feels like it’s leading up to something bad.” Shuri agrees.

“Did he just say ‘idk’?” Tony asked, pointing his finger side-to-side to display his confusion.

The blonde girl is shown again, this time doing bridge-ups

The blue haired girl is shown running through a path in the leaves, and then does a backbend next to the blonde girl

Blonde Girl: We’re both upside down.

Blue Haired Girl: “And I bet you’re gonna fall down first.

Blonde Girl: No, you will. You can’t hold it much longer.

The blue haired girl starts making funny noises, causing the blonde girl to giggle and fall. They both stand up

“Aunty Nat always does that to me too!” Lila says giggling a bit. She doesn’t fall down as much now that she’s older, but that doesn’t stop her from getting a sense of deja vu from the movie.

Clint and Laura laugh as well, remembering their friend letting loose and playing with her niece and nephews. It was always a welcomed sight to see the serious Natasha melt away into the fun and often childish Aunty Nat.

Blue Haired Girl: Told you you’d fall down first.

The blonde girl starts chasing the older girl around

Blue Haired Girl: I told you! I told you! Told you so!

The little girl trips and falls onto her knees, scraping one of them

Blonde Girl: Mommy!

The blue haired girl looks back in concern for the younger girl. She reaches down and hugs the crying child. A brunette woman who seems to be their mother appears and kneels down to their height

“That’s you, ma’am, isn’t it?” Rogers asks.

“Da,” She responds in Russian and then switches to English, “and, please, don’t call me ma’am, you’ll make me feel as old as Madame B.” She chuckles, Natasha and Yelena join in.

“I’ve told him that before, but there’s no stopping his manners.” Natasha jokingly tells the other woman.

Brunette Woman: What happened?

Blue Haired Girl: She fell on her knee.

Brunette Woman: Oh, you bumped your knee?

The blonde girl makes a noise of agreement

Brunette Woman: Oh…

The blue haired girl goes back to the play area as the brunette woman kisses the knee and wipes away the little girl’s tears

Brunette Woman: Kiss it better, there we go. Oh, come on now little one. Get up, you’re okay.

The mother takes the daughter’s hands into her own and encourages her to get back up

Brunette Woman: Come on. You’re a brave girl. Your pain only makes you stronger.

“Were you a Black Widow too? Natasha always says that to the kids whenever they’re hurt.” Laura observed, although her comment was mainly meant as a joke.

“Not quite.” Melina responded. The Red Room had been broken up into many divisions, and most Widows were simply called Widows, it was only the special ones who earned specific names. For instance there was Natasha, who was the only Black Widow, and Yelena, the only White Widow. And then of course there were girls in the Red Room not trained to be Widows, like her, who had cycled through a different division of the Red Room and earned the title of the Iron Maiden.

“That wasn’t a no… I wonder if I could grill her for some info on pre-American Nat, maybe I’ll even get some blackmail.” Tony whispers to himself, Pepper immediately swings her purse into his chest as a warning.

They walk to the swing where the older girl is playing

Brunette Woman: Right, you?

Blue Haired Girl: Yeah.

Brunette Woman: Yeah?

Blonde Girl: Look! Forest stars.

“I want one.” Tony whispered in Pepper’s ear.

She tapped on the arc reactor in his chest, “Not until you lose this.”

Lila giggles a bit, “Those aren’t forest stars, they’re beetles, not flies, their wings go in a straight line down their back and they have two pairs, not one, and they glow cause they contain Luciferase.”

Many of the adults and teens in the room turn to look at the little girl in amazement, even Clint and Laura.

Cooper looks around and chooses to explain, “Aunty Nat pretty much always knows the answers to our questions, so whenever she’s over we ask a whole bunch.”

They all look to the trees and see a bunch of fireflies

Brunette Woman: Yeah. You know what? Those are actually part of the Lampyridae family.

The blue haired girl gets off the swing to stand next to her mother and sister

Brunette Woman: And the glow? The glow that you see, that comes from a chemical reaction called bioluminescence.

“Zoologist?” Bruce asks.

“Biochemist.” Melina replies.

The blue haired girl smiles up at the fireflies, and their mother grabs the youngers hand

Brunette Woman: Come on, time for dinner.

Blonde Girl: Bio-goomin-feasants

Brunette Woman: Bio-goomin-feasants, that's right.

“Just one?”

“No, Tony.”

The blue haired girl stays behind, still watching the pretty glow of the beatles

Brunette Woman: Dinner! Come on, dinner, big girl!

The scene changes to inside the house

Blonde Girl: I want mac and cheese.

Brunette Woman: Oh, you want mac and cheese? Okay, well, I want… caviar and champagne.

“Felt.” Laura jokes, ruffling Cooper’s hair.

Brunette Woman: Grab the napkins. You take this. Thank you. Oh, would you grab the ranch dressing for Dad?

They bring the food out to finish setting the table

Brunette Woman: Okay.

Blonde Girl: Green beans are my favorite vegetable.

“Yuck.” Cooper and Nate gagged.

Footprints are heard from somewhere in the house

Brunette Woman: Dad’s home!

A brunette man walks into the kitchen, the older girl waves at him

“More like Daddy, if you catch my drift.” Darcy jokes, fake swooning for extra effect.

Blue Haired Girl: Hey, Dad.

“And that’s you?” Sam asks, pointing at the man sitting next to Natasha.

He ruffles her hair a bit.

Brunette Man: Hey, baby.

They all sit down to eat, with exception to the father who stays standing and looks out the window

Brunette Woman: Everything okay?

The man sighs and turns around to face them

Brunette Man: How was everybody’s day?

The woman looks down as if she was sad

Blonde Girl: Mommy taught me about lamp bugs.

Brunette Woman: Lamp bugs.

He laughs a bit at his daughter's description

Blonde Girl: And I fell and hurt my knee, but it doesn’t hurt anymore.

The mother steps away with the father, and the older daughter seems to be sad, the youngest has no reaction

“That girl knows something is up.” Wanda notices.

Blonde Girl: And we also saw fireflies in the backyard, that was my favorite part of the whole day.

Brunette Woman: No.

“Something is definitely wrong here.” Gamora says.

The man nods his head in confirmation

The sisters talk in the background, but it’s difficult for the audience to make out

Brunette Woman: How long do we have?

Brunette Man: I don’t know. Like, an hour, maybe.

He cups her cheek to comfort her.

Brunette Woman: I don’t wanna go.

“Why woul’ they hafta go” Nate tries to ask.

He drops his hand and becomes more stern than before

Brunette Man: Don’t say that.

They sit back down

Brunette Man: Girls… You remember when I told you that one day we would have that big adventure? Today’s the day.

“Adventure!” Cassie cheers, Scott finding his daughter’s shout adorable, pulls her into a hug, her back against his chest.

Blonde Girl: Yay!

The mother looks at her oldest, who, unlike her sister, isn’t excited for the adventure, instead she looks scared and sad

Brunette Man: All right, let’s go.

The oldest and the mom stay behind

Brunette Woman: I’m sorry…

They stand up

The scene changes to the man pulling out a gun as bullets fall to the floor, which the blonde girl picks up

“That little girl seems so oblivious about whatever situation her family is in, but also knows to pick up the bullets.” Vision points out.

Brunette Woman: Come on, we gotta hurry.

Brunette Man: Thank you.

Blonde Girl: I don’t have my shoes.

Brunette Man: That’s okay, you don’t need your shoes.

“That man’s silly, everyone needs shoes.” Cassie giggles, causing Lila to giggle as well.

Blonde Girl: But I’m still hungry.

Brunette Man: Yeah? Guess what? I got fruit roll ups in the car.

“Now I kinda want fruit roll ups.” a 12 year old Kate Bishop says. (A/N: 22 in Hawkeye, which is 2 years after endgame, 22-2=20, which is 5 years post infinity war, 20-5=15, and infinity war is like 3 years after civil war, which is when this takes place, so 15-3=12)

“Where are all of these tiny humans coming from?” Tony jokes.

The mother grabs a handgun from the top of a cabinet and shoves it into her purse

“Yeah, I know guns are big here and all, but this isn’t the normal American family is it?” Wanda asked, her voice shifting between her regular accent and the American one Natasha was teaching her to use.

They start loading up the car, the older girl grabs shoes from the back and starts walking through the living room. She reaches to grab a book.

Brunette Woman: No, leave it, leave it, leave it! Go wait in the car!

The girl runs to the car

Brunette Woman: You have it?

Brunette Man: Yeah.

He pulls a floppy disc out of his jacket

“What are those!” Peter, Shuri, and Ned yell in unison.

Brunette Woman: It’s the only copy?

Brunette Man: It’s the only one not on fire.

“I kind of like this family.” Loki chuckled.

They reverse out of the driveway and start driving away from the home quickly

Kids play on the streets completely unaware of the fleeing family

The two girls look out the window at their neighborhood friends

Blonde Girl: Where are we going?

The camera shows the mother who looks somewhere between sad and serious

Brunette Woman: Home.

“But they just left home?” Wanda questions.

The older girl is still looking out the window in despair

Blonde Girl: Mommy, you’re silly; we just left home.

The mother looks down

Police sirens start up in the background, causing the father to become minorly anxious

“That reaction to cops seems quite telling, what I don't understand is why that one girl seems to know what’s happening.”

They drive pass the police car

Blonde Girl: I want my song.

The father pushes a cassette into the car and American Pie begins to play, the younger daughter starts to sing, completely unaware of the mood the rest of her family is in

The pre-teen watches as they drive by a football game

They continue driving but only the music is heard now, not the little girl singing along

They drive through a corn field until they pull into a hangar lot and hurriedly grab stuff from the car. The father pulls out his gun, and the blue haired girl climbs to the front so she can grab a photo booth reel of her and her sister

“I swear I’ve seen that before.” Maria said, Furry nodded next to her.

“I mean, aren’t those types of photos common back when you were kids- or I guess, less old?” Cooper questioned.

Brunette Woman: Come on, Yelena, hurry up, baby.

The father pulls back a white tarp to reveal a small plane

Brunette Woman: Hurry up, hurry up. We gotta go. Come one, you gotta run.

They all run to the plane and start getting the plane ready, except for the older who slows to look at her photos

The father runs to get her

Brunette Man: Come on, honey, go with your mom. Go with your mom.

Blue Haired Girl: Okay

Brunette Woman: Hurry up!

The girl starts running towards her mother

Blue Haired Girl: I’m coming!

The man stays behind and looks out at the road, holding his gun at his ready

The mom climbs into the plane with her daughters

Brunette Woman: Okay, seatbelts.

“Please let this be a normal field trip.” Peter yelled.

“With the Friz?” Ned responded.

“No way.” Shuri add

MJ just rolled her eyes lightheartedly.

She shuts the door

Brunette Woman: Okay.

“Why isn’t their dad on the plane?” Lila asked.

Blue Haired Girl: Why isn’t Dad on the plane?

The plane starts and the propellers begin to spin

Brunette Woman: He’s coming, baby, he’s coming.

The father starts to run towards the plane, but stops to lift up a giant, heavy, metal farm trailer and flip it out of the plane’s way. He gives his wife a thumbs up

“Well…” Steve Rogers said before turning his head and staring curiously at the older version of that man.

“What, you do not remember me, your arch nemesis, more so than Red Skull or Zola, the Rus-”

“For God’s sake stop it Dad, he doesn’t know you,” She turns to the still confused Steve, “You don’t know him, don’t worry. He’s insane.”

“That is no way to speak to your father. And, Natalia, stop slouching, you were never taught to slouch.” Melina chastised the two women.

“What is happening?” Clint and Natasha asked at once.

The plane starts to go down the runway as the father guides it. SIrens begin to be heard and start getting louder, so the father takes his gun off from around his neck, cocks it and starts firing at cops. His first shot hits through the drivers windshield and the car drives into a pile of tires

The father takes off to start following the plane

The scene shows that the people that were following them were SHIELD, not cops

“Fury?” Hill asked.

“No idea, this was probably a group of Hydra agents, not actual agents of SHIELD.”

The mother prepares the plane for lift off as her husband runs alongside them, firing twice more

SHIELD agents start firing at him

The older girl watches fearfully as her father tries to catch up

Blue Haired Girl: Mom?

The father hops onto the plane wing and turns over to shoot back at the SHIELD cars

“That is some multitasking.” Tony whistled.

A stray bullet flies through the window, narrowly missing the blue haired girl, but hitting the mother

Both girls scream and look close to crying as their mother bleeds in the front

Blue Haired Girl: Mom!

Because the mother is no longer in control of the plane the father gets thrown into the side of the plane, he grips onto the wing so he won’t fly off

The older girl unbuckles before her mom can speak

Brunette Woman: I need you up here.

“Those poor girls, this must have been absolutely traumatizing for them.” Pepper said, concerned for whoever these girls were.

The girl climbs up into the co-pilot seat

Brunette Woman: Okay.

Blue Haired Girl: Okay.

The girl starts reaching towards the yoke

Brunette Woman: I need you to pull right.

The plane violently falls to one side, pushing the mother into her eldest daughter’s side

Blue Haired Girl: Mom, you’ve got blood on you!

“Jesus Christ.” Buck whispered, nearly everyone in the theatre shook their heads in agreement.

The woman lets out a gasp of pain

Brunette Woman: It’s okay, baby.

The father starts kicking at the windshield of one of the cars as his youngest child watches on in tears

“I could never imagine putting Cassie through this.”

The older girl is able to move the plane and shake the car off of her father

Brunette Woman: Hit the accelerator there.

She pushes up one of the gears

Her father shoots at the cars on their tail, and the cars shoot back

The girls duck and scream as bullets start hitting the cockpit widescreen, but not breaking it

Lila shreaked along with the girls on screen.

Brunette Woman: Hold it steady, hold it steady. You’re gonna pull back at 55 knots. Let’s count together.

The toddler is shown ducking and covering her ears in a state of total fear

Brunette Woman and Blue Haired Girl: 45… 50…

Another bullet hits drawing another scream from the toddler, the pre-teen begins to push the gear foward

The father hits the wheel of one of the cars in their way, which causes it to swerve and hit into the other SHIELD vehicle

Brunette Woman: Pull back, you can do it!

The daughter pulls the yoke towards her, just lightly scraping the cars that had crashed in front of them

Everyone lets out a few breaths and look out towards the father on the wing

The scene changes to a pretty island view with light and dark blue waters

The plane touches down and a light blue car drives towards it

“This place looks beautiful.” Tony says, nuzzling a bit into Pepper’s shoulder.

“CUBA”

“And never mind…”

Calm music plays in the background and little noise can be heard

The man carries the woman out to military men holding a stretcher. The daughters run behind him in concern for their mother. The older holds her hands near but not on her mother, and the younger holds her mothers hand as she’s carried away from the plane. She’s set down. The toddler cries into her mothers chest, and the older cries as she kneels nearby.

Blonde Girl: Get up, Mommy. Pain only makes you stronger, remember?

The father walks calmly towards the car as another man in a windbreaker gets out. They outstretch their arms as though to hug.

Windbreaker Man: The Red Guardian returns.

“I believe I know that name from somewhere, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.” Fury mumbled, mainly to himself.

Alexei: The Red Guardian returns triumphant.

The men kiss on both their cheeks

“Gaaay!” Flash yelled.

MJ scoffed, “Oh, please, as if you’re not obsessed with Peter.” She had managed to effectively make Flash shut up.

Alexei: Please, please, I beg you, no more undercover work. I wanna get back in the action. I want my suit back. I wanna get back in it. General Dreykov, it’s been over three years.

The older begins to speak in Russian to her dying mother

Blue Haired Girl: Forgive me, Mom. I’m scared.

“So, you are a Widow, aren’t you?” Laura asked the woman.

“As I said before, it is not quite as simple as I believe you think it is. I cycled through the Red Room, but that does not make me a Widow, and it far from makes me the Black Widow.” Melina replied.

Brunette Woman: Never let them take your heart.

“You cared for your daughters.” Laura observed.

“I’d hardly say they’re my daughters.” Melina denied, stirring more confusion in those observing her.

A soldier says something in Russian before knocking the girl to the side

Dreykov: Did you get it?

Alexei pulls the floppy disc out from his coat pocket, Dreykov takes it from him

Dreykov: And the North Institute?

“Now I know what that one was, the North Institute was the Winter Soldier project. I skimmed the files when Nat released everything.” Maria reported.

Alexei: Ashes.

The daughters stand together, the blue haired one placing comforting arms sound her baby sister

Blue Haired Girl: It’s gonna be okay.

“Pietro was the same way with me when our parents died.”

Tony bowed his head in sorrow.

A venturi mask is placed on the mother’s face

Dreykov: How is Melina?

The girls watch as their mother is loaded into a Diamond T 4-ton

Alexei: She’ll live, she’s strong.

Blue Haired Girl: Mommy? Mom?

Blonde Girl: Daddy!

The little girl starts taking off towards her father

Alexei: I’ll handle this.

Every parent grew annoyed at this ‘Alexie’s’ words.

Blonde Girl: Daddy! Daddy!

One of the soldiers roughly grabs her arm

“Ah!” Morgan screached, causing Tony to turn to her and groan.

“Where do all these kids keep coming from?” The girl finally noticed him when he spoke and she started to run towards him.

“Daddy!”

“What is happening?” He asked as the arms around his throat started to accidentally cut off his breathing.

Blue Haired Girl: Yelena!

She takes off running to the other girl

The soldier maintains his grip on the girl as she screams and tugs

Yelena: Daddy!

Blue Haired Girl: Get away from her!

She kicks the soldier's hand away from the girl’s arm and grabs his gun from his side before pointing it at him and the other military men. She holds her sister safely behind her back as Alexei and Drekov watch on

Blue Haired Girl: Don’t touch her. I will shoot! Don’t touch her! I will kill you all! I will shoot! Don’t touch her!

“Just who is this girl?” Fury asks himself, petting the orange tabby on his lap.

Alexei: Honey.

He walks towards his daughters comfortingly

She continues pointing the gun at him, but without the same fire as she had held before

Alexei: You need to hand me that gun.

Blue Haired Girl: I don’t wanna go back there. I wanna stay in Ohio. You can’t take her… you can’t.

“I still don't understand what is happening.” Pietro said, startling Wanda, who hadn’t noticed he was there, into tears.

The father gently holds his hand out for the gun as his child starts to break down

Blue Haired Girl: She’s only six.

Alexei: You were even younger.

“Younger for what.” Pepper cried.

He gently guides the gun down from him and takes it from her hands

Alexei: It’s okay. Come here.

He kneels down to her height

Alexei: You’re gonna be alright.

He places a kiss to the Yelena’s head

Alexei: You know why it’s gonna be alright? Cause my girls are the toughest girls in the world. You’re gonna take care of each other, okay?

“He seems like a good parent after all.” Clint said softly.

Dreykov makes a small head motion to his men

Alexei: And everything… everything is gonna be fine.

The soldiers inject the girls as they’re distracted and they slip into unconsciousness in the arms of the soldiers. The soldiers carry them away as the father pick up his youngest’s stuffed animal

“I'm going to kill you.” Clint yelled at the man, getting up to attack him. Natasha stepped in front of him to get him to stop. “Nat…”

“It’s okay, Barton. Don’t do something reckless, I get what you’re feeling.”

“How can you be alright sitting next to him, knowing he’d treat his own daughters like that?” Rogers asked, he’d worked with Natasha for years, he knew she hated people who hurt children, so he was confused why any of the people in that group Nat was in could even stand to be near Alexei.

“Sit down, supersoldier.” Yelena said.

Dreykov: That one, she has fire in her.

The soldiers load the girls into the plane as the men talk

Dreykov: What is her name?

The blue haired girl is laid onto a small mattress next to her sisters.

Alexei: Natasha.

Every head whipped around to face Natasha and Yelena, now similarities between each girl and their younger self was clear as day.

“Holy shit.” Nearly perfectly in sync Clint, Steve, and Fury breathed out together.

Dreykov: Ah, Natasha.

Chapter 5: Nirvana (but sadder)

Summary:

Sorry for being totally AFK/MIA (whichever you wanna call it) I've been busy, as always highschool SUCKS (i love school, but seriously man)

Chapter Text

The room was silent for a second, not even Tony could mock Steve about his ‘language’ (whether that was because of his shock or because the little girl still had a death grip around his throat was anybody’s guess)

Finally Fury began to speak, his words were soft, but audible in the quiet room. “That’s why those photos looked familiar, Romanoff had them hanging up in her room back when she first joined S.H.I.E.L.D… and the Red Guardian was one of the names on the few non-redacted mission reports of Natasha’s…”

That’s when it sunk in for everyone in the room, this show was real, it wasn’t a tv show or anything of the sort, they were watching Natasha’s life.

Bruce stood up quickly and angrily, his face was turning green and a vein was near-popping out of his neck, but he managed to remain in his human form as he furiously pointed a finger at Alexei; “You sent her back into the Red Room!” He screamed, not even caring about keeping his cool, laughing bitterly towards the end.

Rogers looked at Natasha, she still appeared indifferent, as if sitting next to a man who played a hand in destroying her childhood was just a normal occurrence; it was concerning to see how that didn’t bother her.

Everyone else still refused to speak, and so the movie played on.

Natasha was shown still knocked out before the sun blurred into bright flashlights with men in heavy duty black gear walking towards shipping crates

Dreykov himself walks towards the crates as soldiers yell in Russian in the background

Natasha, with Yelena in her lap and more young girls in the background, are shown crying inside of the crate, covered in a layer of dirt and sweat. Soldiers open the crate striking fear in the children, Natasha clutches her little sister to protect her best she can. The girls scream, but it is barely audible.

“Oh, god.” Pepper whispers in horror into Tony’s chest. He rubs her back but even he doesn’t know how to react.

“You- you were trafficked…” Steve said, looking as if he was near to cry, then his face morphed into anger “And you let it happen.”

“He didn’t just let it happen, he trafficked her.” Tony corrected.

“That must have been so scary.” Lila looked over to her Aunty

Load up our guns

The soldiers point guns at the girls to lead them out of the crates

Bring your friends

Soldiers are shown tearing girls apart as they scream and grab for their friends

Many audience members were crying now, to see those children separated with no clue what was happening to them, to see them scream and cry, made even the most stony individuals feel saddened. “ This is the world we live in” some found themselves thinking.

It’s fun to lose

A stuffed bunny is shown sitting in a puddle of water, adding to the gloomy mood

And to pretend

More girls are torn away from each other

She’s overboard

Large groups of girls are ushered forward without any knowledge of what was happening to them

And self assured

Natasha takes Yelena's hand and gently leads her scared sister out of the container

“Good girl, being strong and protecting your sister.” Melina approved quietly, smiling at her not-children.

Dreykov: Remove all the defects.

“What does that mean?” Laura asked, looking at her friend and the people next to her. When none of them spoke, her voice became hysterical. “What does that mean?”

“A bullet straight through head, но жизнь продолжается.” Melina answered.

“Не для них.” Yelena joked then was lightly elbowed by Natasha, “Hey! What, am I not allowed to say it didn’t; it didn’t, they’re dead.”

“I think I should feel glad to not speak Russian.” Darcy whispered to Jane.

I know, I know

Small feet are shown nervously walking forward together

“They’re all so tiny.” Hope whispered, looking over at Scott, who was currently gripping on to Cassie, vowing to always be there and protect her from ever experiencing something like this.

A dirty word

Dreykov stands apart from the madness and the men in black continue what they were doing

Hello

Dreykov points to somewhere off-screen

Dreykov: That one,

Hello

Dreykov: And her.

Hello, how low

More dolls are shown and a loud scream of “No!” is heard

Hello

The soldiers attempt to tear Natasha from Yelena, but they try to keep holding hands

Natasha: Yelena!

Yelena almost turned away from the screen. Her years of training should have left her stone faced and indifferent, but instead she was feeling a surge of emotions. She felt guilt, her brain had blocked out much of this, and so she had always somewhat blamed Natasha for them being in the Red Room. On the other hand, she felt sad, she was rewatching the moments when her life was torn away from her, when her sister was torn away from her. She felt sad because she knew that this would be the last time she could be a human, and not a resource to be used. And somewhere in her, she was angry. She was angry at Alexei for betraying them and sending them back, at Drekov for obvious reasons, and at Melina and Natasha for never telling her that nothing she knew was real, that it was all just a highly fabricated ruse.

Lila moved to hug her Aunty Nat, who smiled down on the young girl.

Their hands are pulled away and they are seperated

Hello

Natash shakes a soldier off and starts running towards Yelena

Hello, hello, with the lights out

Natasha hads Yelena something as the soldiers continue to seperate them

Natasha: Take it! Take it!

It’s less dangerous

The separate the two, but Natasha still struggles to get back to the blonde

Natasha: No!

Here we are now

A long line of girls, standing with their backs against the containers, clutching their stuffed animals for comfort, are shown

“There’s so many girls…” Gamora whispered, she was horrified.

Entertain us

Natasha is shown again, now it's a video of Yelena and Natasha. Natasha has long red hair and their sitting at a nice table, with a bunny sitting on it

I feel stupid

Dreykov continues to watch the suffering girls

And contagious, here we are now

The older, blue-haired Natasha walks towards Dreykov, who reaches out to grab her cheeks

Dreykov: Red Room is your home now

“He seems very interested in you.” Steve looked to his friend.

“He raised me, they all did, really. He always said he saw something in me, that I had the makings of someone destined to have a red-stained ledger; had the Red Room train me in a very hands-on approach: Ivan, Madam B, Dreykov, all of them.”

Melina barked out a laugh, her eyes drifting like she was lost in a memory, “ When we were first put on mission, Dreykov ordered us to train you, unusual for a…how do you say…perfect as picture family mission…he might not have remembered your name, but he had always known something in you was fierce.”

“How could he not.” Alexei laughed, “Her first time through the Red Room,” He turned to the other members of the audience, “She was about five, tiniest girl in class, like a little mouse she was, killed all 32 of her classmates in her ‘final’, and she cried, but she did not hesitate to stab her best friend through the throat.”

“Not even for a second.” She slapped her lap, “Oh, and she pulled out a part of her trachea when she removed the knife.” Melina giggled fondly, as though the two of them were normal parents reminiscing on a proud memory of their child.

Home footage of the young red-head Natasha opening Christmas gifts plays.

A soldier picks up a screaming Natasha and forces her up into a black SUV

Natasha: Get off me! No!

I’m worse at what I do best

Natasha and whoever else is in the vehicle are driven off by Dreykov himself

And for this gift I feel blessed. Our little group has always been

The SUV continues to drive off as police sirens sound in the background

And always will until the end

News reports are shown as a newscaster speaks

Newsman: Undercover spies in our communities. They took on false identities, even raised families

“I remember those reports, always brushed them off as half-baked conspiracies.” Tony said.

Hello

More home footage of Natasha and Yelena opening presents is shown

Hello

Natasha sits in front of a computer, staring blankly at the screen, same as the girls around her

Hello

Flashes of different tv shows played one after the other

“Brainwashing…” Said Bucky.

How low

Natasha continues watching them, now she has a lollipop sticking out from her mouth

Hello

More shows play

Hello

A camera pans across a row of girls, showing they are all watching the exact same thing as Natasha was

Hello

All the girls grab and drink from a juice box in perfect unison

With the lights out

Natasha’s hair is shown being braided and then having a bow tied to the end, then suddenly it switches to body shaped targets being shot through as Dreykov walks behind the girls

“You were just a child, you should have been talking about crushes and going to sleepovers, not learning to shoot someone in the lungs.” Hank Pym said softly.

Gamora and Nebula felt reminded, in a way, of their own messed up childhoods.

It’s less dangerous. Here we are now

Natasha is shown, again in a row of girls, each standing exactly the same, guns are then shown being grabbed from a wall of them

Entertain us

Natasha and Yelena are shown standing in front of studio lights, wearing the outfits from the ‘home videos’

The open presents, but this time its clear that the entire Christmas was just a set up

“So those childhood videos from earlier were not even real?” Bruce asked.

I feel stupid and contagous

A cassette is placed into a computer and then a black and white video is shown, in it there are surgeons but nothing too graphic can be seen

“What was that?” Thor asked.

“Who knows. The Red Room, Hydra, plenty of surgeries were done in the hopes of improving the human condition. Many were to create stronger soldiers, others were for better control over the subjects.” Melina said.

“How can you say that like it’s nothing?” Sam spoke up.

“The world functions on a higher level when it's controlled.” Natasha stepped in, “Besides, to us, it is nothing. You go through so many surgeries during the course of your life, you don’t know anything else, and at the end of the day, if you die, you died to become a statistic that will help your handlers and the scientists behind the procedure.”

“You stop caring if they remove an organ or pump you full of some new chemical, you’ve already been trained to do as they say.” Yelena added.

The MCU simply stared, they couldn’t even begin to fathom what that must have been like for them. Thor found himself feeling guilty that he had asked at all, Sam felt the same.

Here we are now

Pigs are shown squealing and then they shift to a young baby

Entertain us

Brain imaging flashes on screen before it changes to women having marker drawn across their foreheads

Yelena unconsciously moved her finger across her head, tracing the area that the lines were drawn on the on-screen women.

A mulatto

Chemicals are picked out by hands and then it switches back to the women as their lifeless bodies are covered by the surgeons

Natasha’s voice rung through everyone's head; “...if you die, you died to become a statistic that will help your handlers and the scientists behind the procedure…”

An albino

A widow buckles her belt and then a woman is show performing gymnastics

“Your form was perfect, way to stick the landing.” Melina complimented her eldest, smiling brightly.

A mosquito

Feet are once again shown, this time black combat boots are moving in unison. The combat boots shift to the legs of ballerinas, who stand as though soldiers who have fallen in line

My libido

A needle is threaded and then used to decorate a white piece of fabric with the hourglass symbol

With the lights out

A widow is shown getting prepared, holstering her gun

It’s less dangerous

Photos of important people are shown, some faces are blocked out, others are circled

Women are shown marching in military wear, holding guns

Bombs are shown being set off

Here we are now

The women twirl their guns in their hands as they march

Widows are shown standing in order

More photos of government officials are shown

Entertain us

Photos of different events are shown, each one pointing out a Red Room agent in it

I feel stupid, and contagious. Here we are now, entertain us. A denial, a denial, a denial, a denial, a denial, a denial, a denial

“I wasn't aware that the Red Room had so much control over world affairs.” Steve commented.

“It’s been around longer than you old man.” Natasha joked.

“Makes me real glad we took it down.” Clint added, Maria and Fury nodded along.

Yelena laughed a bit at that, not even attempting to hide her chuckle.

Flashes of Natasha are shown, before ending on her peering up into the camera

Nobody spoke, but, once again, everyone felt sorry that Natasha (and all those other girls) had their formative years stolen by the Red Room.
