Chapter Text
Wilbur
I feel numb at the moment. I don't wanna seem angsty but that just the feeling I have at the moment. How else am I supposed to feel. I'm about to board a train along with many other children.
The only difference is that they have someone to return too. Me? I have no one anymore. My mother and me had been around the worst of the bombing. I don't know the actual cause of death. They aren't gonna tell that to a ten year old.
All I knew was she had been killed in the bombing, and that I was lucky to be alive right now. The scars making that very evident. I still had bandages all over my torso and arms,The ones on my legs were the worst. Every step I would take felt like hell.
Most of my stuff surprisingly survived the bombs. But I only brought things that ment something to me. I brought a lot of moms favorite things. A music box and My favorite orca plushie, someone had made me fore my 4th birthday.
That someone was my father. He and mom had divorced when I was 3.
Mom after the divorce had married my step father, who disliked me. So when mom died he picked up his bags and left me.
When I had been discharged from the hospital, I had been taken to a child care center who sent a letter to my biological father.
A few days later another letter came back, saying he would love for me to come and live with him. You see, I don't remember my biological father at all. And the 'father figure' I had my entire life hated me. So I was unsure, I was terrified about how he could just look at me and decide he didn't actually want me.
That thought alone terrified me.
"You are William Minecraft right?" I looked up at the ticket man.
"I uh- yeah..." I muttered, only just loud enough to be heard. His eyes softened.
"Go up the stairs and go down the aisle, should be the third one on the right." He smiled.
"Thank you..." I said softly.
I stepped on the train. My anxiety was flowing through my body like a flood. I walked down the aisle to the third door on the right. I walked into the compartment. There sat another young girl. She had blonde hair, and she wore a light blue dress.
"Oh hi." She said cheerily.
"Hello..." I said quietly.
"I'm Niki! I guess we're traveling together." She laughed. She seemed nice.
"Yeah I guess we are..." I said a little louder than I was talking earlier. I moved and put my suitcase up on the rack above me.
As I was about to sit down I felt the train rock slightly. Niki moved over to the window opening it.
"BYE MOMMY ILL MISS YOU!!" she yelled out to her mom. I felt my heart twist at that.
"Hey aren't you gonna say bye to your parents?" She asked.
"I um... My mom is dead and I'm going to meet my dad." Her eyes widened with shock and guilt.
"Oh I'm so sorry I didn't know." She walked over to me, and wrapped her arms around me.
"It's fine Niki..." My voice was wavery and was filled with sorrow.
"Hey it'll be ok- uh what's your name again" she said that last part with a laugh.
"Oh sorry I'm Wilbur." I laughed too.
The rest of the trip was good. Me and Niki chatted. I told Niki about my situation. And she told me about hers.
It was comfortable and when the train rolled to a stop it sadly had to say goodbye to Niki. I grabbed my suitcase and walked to the exit of the train. I noticed a few other kids getting of the train.
My legs ached as I stepped onto the platform. Slowly other kids found the people they were staying with. I stood there awkwardly waiting for my father to show up.
I suddenly heard banging from behind me. I turned to see nik waving at me as the train started to move. I waved back, my arm aching.
I turned back looking forward. I walked forward to the steps down the station. I sat down, my legs were killing me from the pain.
Where in the world was my father. I looked around again not seeing anyone. I sighed, of course he wouldn't show up. Why would he, why would anyone care.
I closed my eyes, my mind wandering to memories. The only memory I had of my father was when I was three. Dad had came into my room to tuck me in. He tucked me into bed and got an old guitar out and played it to me as I slowly fell asleep.
My mind wandered, and my eyes filled with tears. What did I do wrong? What did I do to deserve this? Why di-
"Wilbur?" I looked up to see a blond haired man standing there, he wore a green a white striped bucket hat. He wore a white button up and a green tie. He looked at me with an unfamiliar look in his eyes.
He suddenly smiled "hello son it's been a while"
I stood up and speed walked over to him. Stumbling badly because of my legs. I got over to him and wrapped my arms around his body.
He wrapped his arms around me aswell. I heard him take a long breath in. I looked up to see his teary eyes. He suddenly pulled me closer. His hand out to my back rubbing soothing circles onto it.
I took my hand and led me to an old car. He put my suitcase into the trunk and opening the door for me. He got in and started the car up.
He started to drive to wherever I was going to live now. My head slowly lolled to the side and I soon fell asleep.
