Chapter Text
Jupiter Jones was born in the house of Leo, with the planet Jupiter in 23 degrees ascendant. She was also born on a cargo ship, somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic.
On the morning after her birth, there was a hurricane. Just off the coast of New York City, the cargo ship containing her mother, her aunt, and countless other immigrants crashed into a rock wall and started to sink.
When the Coast Guard got to the ship, there were bodies floating amongst the wreckage. Some, it seemed, had managed to free themselves from the contorted steel and flooded chambers. The Guard wasn’t sure if any could have made it ashore in a storm like that, but they searched for hours and found no traces.
Somehow, miraculously a baby survived. Nestled in wooden crate filled with blankets was Jupiter Jones, or Baby Doe 8724, as the government later named her. Certain her parents had probably drowned, and if they hadn’t there’d be no way to reach them, the Coast Guard promptly brought the crying day-old infant to Child Protective Services.
There she was examined, and found to be perfectly, though surprisingly, healthy. She was measured and DNA-swabbed, in hopes that somehow she might be in a missing person’s database, or that her parents had submitted their own DNA hoping to be reunited. They already knew it was hopeless, but they couldn’t help feel a deep desire to give this child the best shot they could.
