Work Text:

Dear Tony Dear Mr. Stark:

I hope this letter finds you well! My name is Steven Grant R I’m Steve, from Brooklyn. I’ve been following your adventure mag ever since my Ma brought me home a copy to keep me company. Hope you won’t find it weird, me saying that I live vicariously through those pages. A lot of folks probably tell ya the same, but I can assure you no one loves them more than me. I’ve suffered from a lot of ailm

I grew up a sickly kid, see, and the most adventure I see outside of Marvels is the inside of a hospital sometimes. My mom’s a nurse, the best of 'em, and she does her best, but you know how it is. Or maybe you don’t. But maybe you do now? Word has it you’ve got some heart condition now so I can only imagine how you’d be faring with all your traveling. From one weak heart to another, I hope you

Well, I just wanted to say, thank you for everything. Looking forward to the next adventure!

Eternally yours,

Steve Rogers

P.S. - Condolences. Sorry to hear about your chronicler.

Dearest Mr. Rogers,

Please do call me Tony, there’s no need for formalities at all.

I was so pleased to receive your letter. I appreciate you taking the time to write to me. It is not at all weird for you to feel like a part of my adventures, that’s exactly why I want Marvels to write about them. Perhaps one day you can come along with me on an adventure, or at least we could have an adventure of our own together.

I’m sorry to hear about your sickness, I understand what it’s like, and I’ll be sure to make a donation to your mom’s hospital. She sounds like such a wonderful woman, far more brave than I to be helping many patients battle sickness. I’d be so grateful to meet her.

I’d love to hear more about what you do in New York.

Tony Stark

Dear Tony,

You have no idea how excited I was when I got your letter! I just about had an asthma attack and everything, but it was well worth it. It’s no trouble at all to send you some kind words; I don’t do much out of our dinky apartment anyway. I’d love the chance to go on a grand expedition with an adventurer like you, but I honestly think I won’t make it out of New York any day soon. Got all my fingers and toes crossed though, because what a time that would be!

I want to thank you too, before I forget. You’re too kind, you don’t need to donate anything but my Ma would have my hide if I don’t at least extend our gratitude. Her name’s Sarah, the fiercest woman ever to walk God’s green earth. She fought tooth and nail to keep me upright and I’d sure be nowhere without her. I bet you’d love her to death.

There’s nothing much to tell about me, unfortunately. Just a little guy from the city trying to make a living as an artist. (Hasn’t really panned as I’d hoped, but I go where the commissions take me. The thing I’ve made with my own two hands and I’m proudest of is a little mural in Manhattan. If you’re ever back in the city, I’d love to show it to you sometime.)

Steve Rogers

P.S. - If you get this before your adventure to Honduras, hope you have a safe trip.

P.P.S. - Sending my love.

Dearest Steve,

Your letters bring me so much joy. Every time I receive one I am always scrambling to open it, pouring over your precious words and rushing to write back. The only other consistent pen pal I have is my butler Jarvis, and he’s not nearly as consistent at writing me back.

I am looking forward to my adventure in Honduras, hopefully, there’s something there for both of us. I’ll be sure to take some pictures to send along with my next letter. As much as the Marvels artists try, they never really capture the adventure as it truly is. I am certain you would make a great artist if you ever wanted to try your luck working for them, I’d be more than happy to put in a good word for you.

Sarah sounds lovely, and you’re so sweet to extend your gratitude, I truly hope that I get a chance to meet this famed woman when I come back from my trip to Honduras. Maybe we can all take a vacation together, sounds like your mom deserves one and so do you. If you could go anywhere, where would you go?

Looking forward to your next letter,

Tony Stark

Tony,

Sorry for taking too long to send a response. My best friend Bucky’s been snooping in my mail, couldn’t wrap his head around me and you exchanging letters. Could you believe that punk? Anyway, hearing from you always warms my heart. (Speaking of hearts, if ya don’t mind my asking, how is yours?)

And there you go again, being nice and all. If I didn’t know any better, I’d wager you were growing a soft spot for m You have no idea how much I’d appreciate the opportunity, but as it is, you haven’t seen my work, have you? Find on the back of this letter a sketch I did of myself, just so you know how I It’s nothing much to look at, but that’s me. I’ve tried and failed at drawing you too, but it’s not quite the same looking at print compared to the real thing.

A vacation sounds amazing! Although, for you, going anywhere might feel like a vacation, huh? If I could choose anywhere in the world to go, I’d probably shoot for Asia. Maybe the Grand Canyon? I bet the sunsets there are beautiful.

With love,

Steve Rogers

Dearest Steve,

There’s nothing quite like someone snooping through your letters. My best friend Rhodey does the same thing all the time and god forbid Miss Potts, my new chronicler sees what I’m writing about, she’d be sure to publish it in her next tale or our adventure.

You look absolutely handsome in the sketch you did of yourself on the back of this letter, though I have no doubts that you are even more beautiful in real life. You have quite a knack for art and I think you’d really make a killing as an artist, Marvels would hire you in a heartbeat, or even I may, after all, there’s nothing quite like commissioning a painting of myself.

Asia is such a gorgeous place to travel with so much amazing culture and many incredible sights to see. I think for our first adventure it might be best for us to try the Grand Canyon, perhaps we can start there and then work our way up to other continents. I think you may be captivated by the constellations visible out west without the fog of pollution in the way. Your artist’s eye could probably pick out beautiful tapestries in the sky and help me find the beauty in nature.

I look forward to taking you on a great adventure when I get home. It shouldn’t be too long before we meet in person.

Yours,

Tony Stark

Tony,

I’m not usually a man of many I don’t think I’ve ever Thank you.

Arizona sounds like the perfect stop to the first of many adventures! If those western stars shine as bright as you do, I know I’d already love them dearly.

Don’t think I’ll be able to sleep a wink waiting for you to come home. Have Jarvis send for me when you get back stateside?

Love,

Steve Rogers

P.S. - Do you do fondue?

Jarvis,

For the first time in years, I’m on vacation and I’m not being chased by dinosaurs or bears or Hydra. Steve and I are enjoying Arizona immensely and I couldn’t ask for a better travelling partner. I didn’t think it would feel so liberating to go on vacation without the desperate search for the answer to my ailing heart, but Steve makes me forget that there’s anything wrong.

He’d seemed very interested in fondue so I took him out to dinner the other day and he seemed to enjoy it a lot, though for some reason he couldn’t stop blushing the whole time. He’s so kind, with such a big heart, I feel like he truly understands me. Not to mention his incredible art, when he draws me, he sees me for who I truly am.

I love him a lot Jarvis, I have yet to say the words out loud, but I think somehow, perhaps he already knows.

Maybe when I return home it will be with a ring on my finger.

I’ll send some pictures of my travels with my next letter…

Tony Stark
