“Hey you,” Tony says, his beard scratching Steve’s cheek when he pulls him in, but Steve is distracted by the woman in the passenger side. “Good flight?”
“Yeah,” Steve says as Tony takes his suitcase. It was, except he’s a little disoriented because right before landing, Steve realised he’d left in such a hurry that he forgot to take off his ring first, and he hastily shoved it in his pocket before getting off the plane.
It doesn’t help that he hasn’t been to California in years and he doesn’t know the beautiful stranger in Tony’s car. Is she being dropped off at the airport? Or is Steve supposed to sit in the backseat?

Summary
“Are you coming to dinner?” Rhodey asks, and Tony looks up from the paper he’s been working on for the past few hours. Steve, sitting next to him, moves the cold coffee out of his reach and nudges an apple into his hand.
“Can’t,” Tony says, regretfully. “I’ve got a hot date with a busty blonde.”
Rhodey pauses in the midst of gathering his books, cutting a worried look at Steve, who is busy making sure Tony can’t get his hands on the coffee cup. He doesn’t look too crushed, Rhodey things, and makes a mental note to talk to Tony about being a little more tactful in front of him.

“The North Star,” Tony whispers back. "Sailors used to follow it home.”
Not that that means anything to him. Steve Rogers is as impossible to reach as starlight, and Tony knows homes are things worth running from. Still- Stark men have always been desperate to ruin things on their own terms.
Or: Steve and Tony learn a lot in college, but mostly each other.
