Chapter Text
Izuku was used to living on the sidelines, a pebble in peoples path to greatness.
Even when he tried to stand out, he never got anything but being shoved back in the supporting roles.
To be fair, he was quirkless, unable to use a power most the population could.
Because of this, he was always watching, never really there.
Bakugou was centre stage, and Izuku was the lighting manager. Always there, always aware, but no one ever sees him.
So, Izuku keeps his head down and his voice quiet.
But sometimes, people like to cause chaos. They go off script and call out the managers to act.
Which is what his teacher decides to do now.
"Didn't Midoriya also sign up for U.A?"
Before the laughter can begin, Izuku raises his voice, putting on a smile.
"Just the support course! I'm not strong enough to be a hero. And, Kacchan, don't worry. If I get in, I won't bother you. I won't even talk to you, if you want."
"Why just him? Tons of us are applying.."
"You can all do it! But Kacchan's been training since we were little. He'll definitely get in! The rest of you barely pass P.E..."
Bakugou grins. "Deku's right, for once. I'm the only one here that'll ever be a hero!" He turns to the greenette. "Deku, don't fuck up my costume."
"Does that mean?.."
"Yeah. If you get in, I'm approving you to work on my costume. You did design it. But fuck it up even slightly, and you're dead."
"I won't mess up. I promise!"
"I'll believe it when I see it."

Walking home alone is usually fun for Izuku, a way to recharge after cheering everyone else on.
Not today though, as sludge crawls up his body, clinging to him, trying to force its way inside his body.
"A medium sized skin suit. Perfect."
A quick glance around is enough for Izuku to know no-one else is here.
Enough for him to remove the cross necklace around his neck and glare.
His eyes glow, and the monster is screaming, shoving him away, hitting at nothing.
Nothing real anyway.
He sets the necklace back on, and the sladge calms, though only a bit. "W-what-"
The grate bursts open, and blond magnificence comes through in the form of All Might. Who deals with the villain quickly, collecting it in empty soda bottles.
"Woah! That you, All Might!" Izuku steps back in his support role. "Are you okay?"
The pro nods, grinning his signiture smile. "Of course! He was no issue for me! Are you okay, young man? You can accompany the villain to the station if you wish!"
He shakes his head. "No, it was your hard work. And I'm okay! I have to get home, so.."
All Might nods. "Please, go. Don't keep anyone waiting on my count. If we ever meet again, remind me I owe you something. Farewell!" The hero takes off.
Izuku turns to leave.
There's a thunk as something hits the ground.
"Dammit.." He turns back to see 2 bottles of sludge. "Guess I'm taking you in whether I like it or not.."
---
"Excuse me!" Izuku sets the bottles down on the front desk. "All Might saved me, but he had to go. I brought the villain in instead."
The lady behind the desk nods. "Would you mind waiting? We need to get a statement."
He nods, moving to sit in the waiting area.
--
"Hello, my name is Tsukauchi, it's nice to meet you."
"You too, sir!"
The officer nods and opens his notebook. "Name and address please."
"Midoriya Izuku, I live at [address]."
"Got it. So, what happened?"
"I was walking home, and it came out the sewers and attacked me."
"Did you use a quirk or weapon at all in self-defense?"
Izuku shakes his head. "I'm quirkless. But All Might showed up and got rid of it before I could get hurt!"
"..I see.." The man stands, studying his notes. "I'll be right back."
"Did I do something wrong?"
"No, not at all! Gotta log this in, call your parents, police stuff."
"Oh, okay."
