Work Text:

For most children, their life is kind of boring in the grand scheme of things. They usually have two parents where either one or both have a normal job, and their backstory is a typical one for ordinary kids. Jon isn't like normal kids however.

Jonathan Guerra already had high expectations put upon him since he's the son of Superman himself. About fifteen or so years ago was when Hernan Guerra and Lois Lane got together, and had a child so life was never normal for Jon whatsoever.

Not only was his family constantly dealing with side eyes from the government since they were never fond of his dad, but due to the fact he has powers. The teen never always had powers since they didn't activate until he was nine years old. He remembered the day he got his powers very vividly.

.

It was a usual day in fifth grade for the nine year old boy. Jon was busy doing some crossword puzzle assignment for his English class since there was a substitute today. Everything seemed normal until the intercoms turned on and an unfamiliar voice was heard.

"This is the Freedom of the Mind. Resistance is futile. It would be best to stay complacent if you don't want anyone to get hurt."

Everything after this felt like it was going in fast forward. One second the class was just confused at what the message said, next second Jon was basically being held hostage by some crazy anti government group that believed in a new world order or something.

"If Superman doesn't come to help us with our plan in one hour, we'll kill everyone in this damn room. Starting with his little tyke." One of the crazed group members explained. It was the only thing the teen remembered from back then since everything else kinda mushed together into nonsense.

Of course, chaos erupted in the classroom with scared children and the teachers trying to calm everyone down. All of this made the boy feel a headache which wasn't helped by a tingle in his nose. While the group members were yelling at everyone to shut up, Jon couldn't help himself and sneezed.

"Achoo!"

When he opened his eyes, he was in awe when the fifth grader saw that his sneeze had caused a small portion of the area to become incised in ice. Even though none of the students were affected by it, it luckily froze all of the Freedom of the Mind members.

"Did I do this?" Jon quietly asked himself as he touched the ice with his bare hands. He couldn't believe he just did that. As the class began to whisper and chatter about what they just witnessed, it truly dawned on the boy the implications of his sneeze. He was just like his dad.

After a few minutes, school was called off when Hernan came to pick up his son after hearing what had happened. After making sure his child was okay, the two made their way home.

"Hey dad, should I be worried about my powers." Jon nervously asked his father while they were nearing their residence. The child worried if he had the potential to be dangerous to everyone around him.

Hernan was concerned by this statement, and gently placed his hand on his son's head. "Oh Mijo, There's no need to worry about anything. I promise to teach you how to use your powers properly. I'll make time for us kiddo." The man of steel softly reassured the boy.

Jon smiled with relief at his father's words. Yeah, his dad can totally help him with his blossoming abilities. "You think I'll be a hero like you one day?" The nine year old happily asked the super powered dad.

Hernan ruffled the child's hair as he smiled softly. "Maybe someday." He told his son as he finished ruffling the hair of the fifth grader.

When he heard those words spoken to him, Jon had stars in his eyes. The young boy began to fantasize about him being a superhero, and working alongside the Justice League with his dad. It was at that moment he decided what he wanted to do for the future.

To one day be a hero like Superman.

The boy knew it wasn't going to be easy, and it wasn't gonna happen immediately. Jon was just a nine year old with only one new power, and with a mother who would definitely not be keen on her son doing dangerous hero work like his dad. He couldn't just be a hero in one two three. It was up to time to tell when he was going to be a superhero.

Jonathan Guerra had no clue when he was going to be a hero, but he knew it would eventually come after he gained control of most of his powers. The question was not if, but when...

.

It was about six in the morning in Metropolis as the sunbeams shined through the fourteen year old's windows. The hispanic teen sat up, and stretched his arms after waking up. After quickly getting dressed for school, he eagerly made his way to the kitchen.

In the kitchen, the person making breakfast was a hispanic woman with short brown hair. While the mother was here making some toast for herself and Jon, the father wasn't there whatsoever.

"Morning." Lois said to her son while she was focused on finishing up pancakes for the boy. When she finally placed the food on a plate, she quickly turned her attention to putting a bagel in the toaster for her own breakfast.

"Good morning mom!" Jon happily said to his mother before taking the plate of pancakes, and placing them on the small dining table. 'You know where dad is?" He curiously asked the reporter as he looked through the pantry for the syrup.

"Had to leave to stop some giant monster in Los Angeles." Lois nonchalantly explained as she got herself some butter for the bagel. "How come you asked?"

Jon was tempted to say something, but he knew his mom wouldn't like the answer. "No reason. Just like having him around for breakfast." He casually answered before getting the syrup from the pantry, and walking back to the dining table.

Lois was a little suspicious of what Jon was going to say, but simply shrugged it off. "If you say so champ." Right after she said that, the bagel popped out of the toaster, and the reporter went to work adding butter to the bagel.

As Jon ate his breakfast, he began to daydream about what it would be like he and his dad got to fight monsters, and supervillains. He didn't care that they would have different methods, working together still sounded like a blast.

Lois quickly ate her breakfast while drinking some coffee she made earlier. Once she finished, she walked over to get her stuff for her job ready. "The bus will be here in ten minutes! Don't take too long!" The mother called out from the living room as she got her things.

"Kay mom!" Jon called back before he finished eating his pancakes. After placing the dirty dish in the sink, he ran to the bathroom to get his personal hygiene ready for the day.

After a few minutes passed, Lois waited by the door while holding her purse. She looked over at the window, and saw the familiar yellow bus. "Jonathan! The bus is here!"

Jon rushed out of the bathroom with a brush still in his hair. Once he got to the living room, he placed the brush on the table, and put his glasses on. "Bye mom! Have a good day!" The hispanic teen hugged his mom before adjusting his backpack straps, and rushing out of the door.

Lois hugged back before holding the door open for the teenage boy. Once he entered the school bus, the brown haired woman exited the condo as well to make her way towards work.

As Jon made his way inside of the bus, he made his his to the far back seats. The boy began to daydream once again as the vehicle made its way to its destination.

"Oh, to be a hero like dad."

.

The bus eventually made it to the front of the high school. Once the door opened, the students spilled out towards the entrance, ready for another day of school.

Once Jon entered his first period classroom, he sat down in a seat next to where his close friend sat, Kathy Branden. The teenage boy waved hello to her when she entered. "Hey Kath! How's your dad's farm?" He eagerly asked the blonde haired girl.

"Going well and all. Nothing too interesting is happening to be honest." Kathy nonchalantly said to her friend before looking at the clock when the bell rang.

Once Ms. Knight entered the class and finished up attendance, most of the students went from talking to whispering to each other while others were focused on their work.

Jon finished his textbook work earlier than usual, so he simply got out his own personal journal to flip through it. As he did, he took note of what the other students were saying around him.

The hushed whispers of the teenagers in the classroom were talking about what was on the news about Superman's fight with a giant monster. Superman this, Superman that. Of course some of the students would love to talk about the hero since his son was in their school.

Jon listened to his fellow classmates while flipping through his personal notebook. "Okay, I got ice breath, heat vision, super speed, super strength, and just last week I gained super vision." He thought thought himself as he looked through a page that was a checklist of all the powers his dad had. Even if some were missing, it was a decent batch of powers. But something felt missing, so the messy raven haired boy flipped to an empty section of the book and began to doodle something.

The rest of the school day kind of passed by. Nothing of interest really happened. The physical education class had dodgeball, the school lunch tasted bad, and the art class was weird. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Jon took this opportunity to work on something while the school time passed him by. Whenever he finished school work, he would immediately get to work on doodling. And the thing he was doodling in his personal notebook was something special. A suit.

The suit was nothing fancy. Just a black zip up jacket with a giant red Superman logo on the chest. It also had a cape, fingerless gloves, and very short heeled boots.

When school ended, Jon had finished up coloring the doodle while on the school bus. He was excited to get to work once he got back to the Condo. "Hopefully mom and dad aren't home."

.

It was the afternoon when the bus stopped near Jon's home. The hispanic teenager thanked the bus driver before making his way inside his home. Once using the spare key, the boy took off his glasses and immediately began to rummage through the closet.

"Fabric, fabric, fabric. Where could it be?" The son of Superman said to himself as he rummaged for materials, and felt excitement when he found his parent's old sewing box. Jon ran over to his room to open the box which had a bunch of colored fabric, some thread, and a sewing needle.

Minutes passed by as Jon got to work sewing the jacket. It was very sloppy since he had no mannequin and constantly had to try on the article of clothing to make sure it for him, but it was coming together decently well. "Almost finished." He muttered to himself as the sloppy

Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. "Jon, you in there?" It was Hernan, who presumably just came back from his work with the Justice League.

Jon began to think a mantra of "Oh shit" when he heard the familiar voice. "Yeah. Kinda busy now dad!" He said from inside his room as he wanted to keep his jacket in progress a secret.

"Alright. We'll get to training whenever you're ready." It was all Hernan said to his son before walking away from the room, presumably to patiently wait.

Jon sighed in relief before quickly continuing his work. Soon, he finished sewing up the jacket and stared at the completed piece of clothing. It looked really rough, but it would suffice. The teenager placed the jacket down on his bed before getting to work on making the gloves.

Another knock on the door startled the boy. "Jonathan, you have to go with your dad now!" Lois called for the teenager from outside of the room.

"I'll be out in just a sec!" Jon thought fast, and put both items in a box, and underneath his bed. Out of sight, out of mind. He quickly opened the door before his mom could tell him to leave again.

Lois smiled softly and lead her son to the living room where Hernan was waiting. "Be safe you two." She said to the two before kissing her husband on the cheek, and ruffling her sons hair.

"We will, don't worry mom.' Jon assured his mom before following his dad out of the door. The two were off for training, the gloves could wait for now.

.

The father and son were currently in an empty field. Jon was currently looking off in the far distance to practice his supervision. While trying to look for their condo in Metropolis, his mind kept wandering to the costume he was making.

Hernan noticed it was taking the teenage boy a long time to find the building from this distance. "Is something on your mind? You seem to be struggling?" He politely asked his son.

Jon felt his focus on his thoughts snap like a twig when he heard the man's voice. "No no, of course not. Why would you think that?" He said while trying his best to sound innocent.

Hernan simply looked at the boy for a second before looking up. "You left your notebook on the table. I had to close it before Lois came by." The man of steel told his son.

Hearing that, Jon just froze there and acted similar to a deer in the headlights. "Sorry." He apologized with a sigh, and looked down.

"There's nothing to apologize for. If you needed help with the outfit, you could have come to us." Hernan kindly assured the boy before motioning him to continue with his super vision training.

Jon was surprised by how chill his father was with this. "What about mom? You know how she feels about me wanting to be a hero like you." He worryingly asked his dad.

"I'll talk to her, don't worry." Hernan assured to the boy before looking back over towards the horizon. "Now, try to find the condo from here." He told his son while motioning him to continue the training.

"Oh, right!" Jon went back to focusing on the city using his super vision. After a little while, he found the familiar building. "Over there!" He excitedly exclaimed while pointing in the direction of the condo.

Hernan smiled softly at how quickly Jon found the building. "Impressive. Now try finding the coffee shop next to the Daily Planet."

Jon smiled as he looked for the building. It was pretty easy to focus on things when you're not worrying ever second. Now all he had to do was hope things would turn out well later.

Hours later, things got rather awkward as the family sat at the dinner table. They were all just silently eating their food, waiting for someone to break the silence.

Jon fiddled around with the spoon as he had finished his soup not to long ago. "So, has dad told you about the thing?" He hesitantly asked his mom.

Lois nodded softly at the question. "Kind of impressed you managed to find the supplies." While it was clearly visible she wasn't a fan of what Jon did, she wasn't going to scold him or anything.

"Even if you don't like it, you have to admire how hard he's worked on just the outfit." Hernan remarked as he held his wife's hand under the table.

Jon could tell his dad was buttering up his mom. He may not have x-ray vision, but it was obvious of what was going on. "So, what do you say mom?"

Lois thought about it while also holding her husband's hand. After a little while, she came to a conclusion. "Even if I think Jon should at least wait until he's about five years older, I guess it wouldn't hurt to let him have fun as a hero." She told the two at the table.

Jon definitely didn't expect that answer from his mom, but he was very happy nonetheless. "Yes! You're the best mom!" He happily cheered as he got up from his chair, and ran over to hug Lois.

"Now, we should probably teach you how to make a jacket that doesnt look like it'll fall apart if you breathe in it." Lois jokingly remarked before she got up to get all the dirty dishes in the sink.

Hernan helped his wife with the task. The two of them made their way to the couch, and motioned there son over to bring his stuff over so that they could help.

The rest of the day and the next two days were spent on the parents helping Jon with his outfit. Whether it was working on the boots, helping out with the gloves, or sprucing up the jacket, Lois and Hernan were always there for help. Eventually, the costume was finally finished.

Jon was absolutely ecstatic over this. Not only were his parents alright with him being a hero, but they even helped him out. As the clothes were on a mannequin in his room, he just remembered that he hadn't decided on a name for himself yet.

"It might be simplistic, but Superboy sounds like a good temporary name." Jon muttered to himself even though the name would probably be permanent. He was ecstatic to get started.

.

It was the weekend, and Jon had just finished up eating breakfast. Normally he would spend the weekends relaxing, playing video games, and training with his dad. But today was special as he opened up the closet, and took out the Superboy outfit.

"I have a meeting soon! I'll be back by six! Lock the door, and make sure the house isn't too messy!" Lois called out from the front area before making her way out of the condo for work.

"Alright mom!" Jon called back before changing out of his regular clothes, and into the jacket along with the custom shoes and fingerless gloves. The teenage boy stared at the mirror, admiring how everything turned out.

Once he was done admiring himself, the Hispanic teen opened the window, and looked at the buildings around him. "Time to get Super!" Jon confidently thought to himself before making his way out, and down onto the streets.

"Look out criminals, here comes Superboy!"

Apologies for the kind of abrupt ending. Between the move, and me getting a part time job, I've been really busy. The next fic might take a little longer to get posted than usual.
