Work Text:
Kagami feels like sinking to the floor the moment she steps through the apartment door and closes it. She puts down her fencing bag, hangs up her coat, and steps out of her shoes. she begins to make her way towards the living room. It's been a long day, and all she wants to do is curl up on the couch with no responsibilities bothering her.
But she doesn't make it that far, because warm hands wrap around her from behind just before she can get to the couch. Kagami stiffens for a moment, before relaxing as soon as she realizes who it is.
"Hey," Adrien says, pressing a quick kiss to the top of her head. "Rough day?"
She leans back against him and sighs. "Just another tournament. It was tiring."
"Did you win at least?"
Kagami looks up at him and smirks. "What, did you think I lost?"
He grins. "I didn't doubt you for a moment, love." Her boyfriend presses another kiss to her cheek before stepping away. "Now, why don't you go take a shower? I'll finish prepping dinner so you can have a bite to eat after."
"She hesitates for a second. Kagami had intended to go and crash on the couch for the rest of the night, maybe watch a movie with some instant ramen before going to bed.
But she can already smell Adrien's cooking in the air. She hadn't even been expecting him to cook today; Kagami knows he had a long day at work, too. So to know that he had taken this time to cook for her, especially considering that it smelled like one of her favorites...
She nods. "Okay."
Adrien smiles, and Kagami heads towards the bathroom.
She takes her time in the shower, letting the warm water cascade over her. Kagami then changes into her favorite sweatpants and one of Adrien's old shirts. When she steps out into the kitchen, Adrien sets a bowl down on the table. A comforting scent wafts through the air.
"Is that... kimchi nabe?"
He smiles. "I figured it wouldn't hurt to treat you to your favorite."
She sits down and takes a bite. It's not quite perfect — Adrien could really afford to use some more seasoning -- she can tell he's made it with care. "Thank you."
“Of course.” Adrien grins as he sits across from her and takes some of the nabe for himself. “What do you think? Do you like it?”
“Not bad,” she says slyly as she takes another bite.
”Not bad? Is that all you have to say?” he asks in good nature.
Kagami simply smiles. “It's better than last time.”
“Not perfect, though?” He pouts when she doesn’t respond, though the smile on his face indicates he isn’t upset. “I'll get it someday,” he says as if challenging her.
She laughs. “Maybe. It’s still great, though, because you made it.”
Truly, it is Adrien's cooking that makes it special. To anyone else, the meal would simply be lacking some flavor. But Kagami can tell how much effort he's put into preparing it.
For her.
Her boyfriend has always put so much care into everything he does, and it certainly doesn't go unappreciated. Adrien's perceptive; he knows exactly what she needs in order to make her feel better. She can't help but smile at the thought. This is what she loves about him. He never fails to make her feel wanted. He always makes her feel loved.
He beams affectionately at her. They sit in comfortable silence as they eat, and when they’ve finished, Adrien takes both of their dishes to bring them to the kitchen.
“Do you want to talk? Or would you rather watch a movie or something?” Adrien looks at her with the most gentle look she’s seen.
“A movie sounds nice.”
They settle on the couch, her head resting comfortably on his chest as they queue up a movie.
Kagami smiles as he cards his fingers through her hair. she lets herself relax in his arms, slowly letting the tension leave her shoulders.
Her day has been far from perfect, and she knows she wasn’t either. But spending time with Adrien like this, where all he expects is for her to be herself?
She feels like she is.
"Really, Adrien, thank you. You didn't have to go to the trouble to make the food, and take care of me, and-"
"Trouble?" He continues to weave his fingers gently through her hair. "You're never trouble. The only trouble you give me is when you keep winning in our fencing matches.
Kagami laughs. "Rightfully deserved wins, might I add."
"Never doubted it for a second," he says fondly.
“You’re a saint. I love you, Adrien.”
He presses a kiss to her temple. “I love you too, Gami.”
A warm tingle spreads through her body. Kagami's never felt more loved than she does when he asks her how her day was, when he does chores and makes dinner with a soft smile, when he goes out of his way to make her comfortable in their own home. The little gestures are what make her day.
She's not perfect, and neither is he. They’re both a bit stubborn, and they’ve argued more times than Kagami can count.
But being together does feel perfect. Because at the end of the day, they love each other deeply.
And that's all she could ask for.
