Work Text:
Alphys was shaking hard, her scales felt too tight suddenly and she wanted to run and leave from tail behind.
Through thick glasses, she gazes at her mistake.
Of course, nobody else was here. So no one had to know right.
Slowly she extends her claw, ready to turn off the machine... then halts.
It was not natural for a lizard and a fish to have offspring. But what did that matter? It was a new age and no one was going to say it was wrong of her to have this half-breed.
Alphys stares at the eggs in the machine. Four out of the five needed to be heated. It was clear that those four were going to be leaning more towards a lizard while the last would be more fish.
A small broken smile spread across her lips as she remembered the words of her mate.
"If we were ever to have offspring," Undyne told her softly as they stared into the sunset together, "I want them to look just like you."
Bringing her claws back, she held them to her chest, holding them there as if a silent prayer.
"Th-the fff- fu-future ssstartsss h-here." Alphys manages to get out happily, she still was not going to tell Undyne because there still was a chance they would not survive. However, she had to give them that chance.
The lizard stood staring at her mistake... no staring at her bright future.
