Work Text:
No matter where he was, he was always surrounded by people with a comforting other, The lovey-dovey couples at movie theatres he visited, to the slightly overprotective mother and her childish son, he found himself getting more and more appalled at the number of people who seemed to have some sort of significant other in life. Why did love have to exist?
Mingyu didn't know where this strange feeling of emptiness started. Being someone who had received little to no love and comfort when he was younger, he was always one to never understand how feelings worked or how they could ever help someone in life. And so, Mingyu spent most of his school days parted from the rest of his schoolmates, apart from a select few who just wouldn't leave him alone (namely, an angel of a boy called Wen Junhui). Things remained the same up until college. So, when he started to feel a yearning for the touch and comfort of oh-so confusing human beings, Mingyu was utterly confused.
It was another sleepless, isolated night, and Mingyu was turning back and forth on bed, completely unable to get some shut-eye. He hugged his long cat plushie, thinking of it as another human being, before trying to lull himself to sleep, but to no avail. It has been like this for close to a month, and Mingyu was absolutely frustrated. He just desperately needed someone to sleep with, in a non-sexual way of course. His sleep-deprived brain figured that getting someone to jump into bed with him was the only option. Throwing all of his rational thinking aside, he picked up his phone from the bedside table with trembling hands and dialled the only contact that he trusted and knew would be awake at fucking 2 in the morning.
-Jun...Calling...-
Jun was an absolute night owl. He loved lurking around at midnight reading whatever he could find, then stumbling to class with panda eyes and 3 cups of coffee the next morning, while being dragged to campus by his best friend, Mingyu. If you were to ask him, or even aggressively interrogate him (believe me, Mingyu has tried multiple times), Jun would tremendously deny being sleep-deprived. He just happens to not be able to sleep at night, and makes use of the sleepless time by doing other things. In his defence, this habit was unusually practical. Mingyu however was the polar opposite, at least in Jun's eyes. His best friend was always one to hit the sack at 10pm sharp. Because of this very reason, Jun was staggered when he received the call from him.
"Mingyu-yah, why are you calli-"
"Jun."
"Oh my god Gyu just tell me-"
"Sleep with me."
Upon hearing those words, Jun's blood ran cold.
"S-sleep with you?! Do you mean it?", he implored, his eyes turning wide.
"Oh my- Jun. Jun. I was having trouble sleeping and just needed a cuddle buddy, stop being so perverted!" Mingyu yelled into the receiver, his cheeks flushed pink.
Jun winced, cradling his ear, and ended the call after muttering a quick "I'll be there in a few."
As soon as he heard the doorbell ring, Mingyu flung it open and embraced Junhui in a tight hug. He had let the shorter into his abode so quickly that Junhui began to think that his bestie was waiting for him by the door the entire time. Although he wouldn't admit it, Jun felt quite bashful at the thought.
Mingyu immediately dragged Jun into his bedroom and threw him onto the bed. Jun could literally feel the wind being knocked out of him and internally cursed the taller's strength, as he tried to get into a comfortable position. Mingyu pulled him into his arms and wrapped them tight around Jun's frame, as the shorter felt blood rushing to his cheeks. Jun adored the way their bodies fit together perfectly, despite the fact that this was their first time being on the same bed. The both of them laid in that exact position, relishing each other's presence until Mingyu spoke up.
"Hug me back, you moron."
And Jun complied.
That night was the night when a touch-starved Mingyu and a sleep-deprived Junhui discovered that they could only sleep in each others' arms.
