"vera...? vera!"
vera flushed scarlet, eyes glancing away from the window and landing on her boss. the flustered vampire opened her mouth beginning to stammer excuses.
"this is the millionth time you've been staring at that girl," wren groaned, "you are such a useless lesbian."
"thanks!" she grinned, brushing a loc behind her ear.
"that wasn't a compliment."
"fuck you!" the younger vampire retorted, pulling out a couple supplies for her first client of the day. since spring she had been working at wings of ink now it was the autumn and the once green trees turned into browns and warm yellows and oranges. we fell in love in october. her gaze lifted back up to the girl across the street who was watering flowers, her breath hitching as she watched. she had been in love with her since she first walked in and applied for the job, the first glance across the street and at the adorable little store, her dark eyes meeting another pair. her heart soaring. she read soulmate fics for the rest of the night.
"please maintain your volume, we are opening soon." wren sighed as they glanced at their phone, half amused and half annoyed.
vera pouted, carrying her box of supplies to her station, "what if after all the years of working here i never even get to talk to her! let alone... hold her hand?" she stared off into a distance dramatically.
wren rolled their eyes, glaring over at her. "oh for fucks sake! just go talk to her?!"
"talk to her? like talking to humans in general is easy, let alone the girl i'm infatuated with! i'll get unnaturally quiet and just smile and nod and laugh awkwardly and run out!"
"well, you're unnaturally loud talking to me."
"thats because we are twin flames! we have a connection and we are great friends, your kindred to me in most ways!"
"or i'm just the only other vampire you were forced to eventually communicate with so we would normally have a bond."
"can you stop being logical for fucks sake!" vera stomped one of her platform clad feet on the floor, arms crossed. "forget what i said, you're a bitch."
wren sighed, running their fingers through their newly dyed lavender hair. "i'm just saying that, if you don't ever talk to her you will regret it."
"but, what would i even say? hey baby girl wanna go on a picnic together? like the hell!"
wren erupted with laughter, "no! what the fuck, never say that ever again." they paused thinking, "oh my gosh i have a perfect idea! you go over there and ask her for some floral inspiration for our tattoo designs!"
vera gasped, intrigued by the suggestion but also very panicked, "i don't know..."
