It was the national day of France so naturally the whole country was celebrating. Of course, Paris had pulled all the stops. Adrien was just happy that he’d had no obligations as a civilian because he’d been busy as a superhero all day long.
In addition, Paris had had a strange request. A poll had determined that for this special day, they wanted their beloved superheroes to bring back Mister Bug and Lady Noire.
Of course, they had no reason to say no so they did it and enjoyed it very much. But the day had been long and tiring and they were finally happy to be away from the public eye in expectation of the grande finale.
They couldn’t miss the fireworks no matter how tired they were. But Adrien had made sure that they had a place where they could have a front seat but one that most people couldn’t reach - high above the rest of the spectators. It also gave them much needed privacy.
“So, Bugaboy, are you happy after today?” His lady’s voice was just the right amount of teasing. But since she also happened to be nestled in his arms, it made the nickname sound just a tad more intimate than it would have in normal circumstances.
Holding her to him, keeping her close, this was normal. They were comfortable with each other to the level that physical proximity had different boundaries than it did for other people. They couldn’t be a good team if this wasn’t true.
This didn’t mean that his heart wasn’t beating just a little faster than normal. Or that he didn’t want to bury his nose in the crook of her neck and just inhale. Or that being there with her wasn’t the best feeling in the world.
“Pretty happy, m’lady,” he replied nonchalantly.
They had been together for the whole day but neither was showing any sign of being tired of the other’s company. It was a very cosy feeling and the atmosphere of celebration only added to it. It was a special day.
When the fireworks finally started, they both jumped a little. It wasn’t just him. So maybe she’d been lost in thought as well. It was too much to hope that she had been contemplating how it felt to be this close to him as well, right?
But when she looked back up to him, a small smile on her lips and the colourful flowers bursting in the sky reflected in her eyes, there was something different there. A feeling that he couldn’t describe at first. Longing?
Adrien swallowed, betrayed by his eyes which left hers to glance at her lips. God, he loved her so much. Even when they got easier to deal with, his feelings still managed to catch him off guard sometimes.
Her lips moved and at first he thought he was imagining things. But no, she had said it. The invitation he couldn’t say no to even if he tried. Maybe he was dreaming, maybe he’d wake up in a minute in a cold and lonely room, he didn’t care.
Because if she was asking him to kiss her, he’d be a fool not to do it.
It wasn’t their first kiss. It pained him that his memories were missing not one but two kisses with her. Such a waste.
But finally, there it was, the third one, that made the fireworks in the sky pale in comparison to the explosion of love in his heart. If it was because of the festive mood, he couldn’t find fault with it. What better way to celebrate than by this simple act of love and affection?
His lady had given him the biggest gift. This was the first kiss he could remember and the one he would treasure forever.
