Work Text:

With a sigh, he picked up the phone call. He already knew who and what the situation was. It happened quite often during midnights and he’d gotten used to it. It easily became a part of his daily life.

"What is it, shitty hair?" he mumbled, the after-sleep numbness hitting him in the face, his senses not fully awake yet.

"Hey, Bakubro. I'm so sorry for calling you this late but I need to clear my mind and well," he paused.

"Get to the point." Bakugou murmured, annoyance present in his voice. He was still so sleepy, he just wanted to lie back down and go back to sleep. He really had a choice to do so but a part of him wanted to be there for Kirishima, even if he didn't want to admit it.

"I was looking to... have a midnight drive. I just wanted to know if you want to join me." he told Bakugou, silently pleading for him to accept.

He for some odd reason after having recent frequent nightmares, always sought out comfort from Bakugou, the person who was "least likely" to care as much. Maybe it was because he knew that he secretly cared for him the most.

Sighing loudly, wanting to punch himself in the face for what he was going to say, Bakugou answered. He was tired as shit but he just didn’t want to reject Kirishima. "Fine, I'll go with you. Come pick me up or something."

On the other line, Kirishima's mood lit up. "Well, I'm already outside your house." he chuckles, relieved.

Bakugou's eyes widened, suddenly fully awake. "You're outside already?" he hissed, shooting out of his bed and basically running to grab his jacket.

"Woah, calm down Bakubro. I have been waiting outside for a while, it's okay. You can take your time." he says, a smile present in his voice.

Not answering, he quickly and quietly, walked downstairs. He grabbed a pair of shoes and socks, putting them on urgently. He opened his front door and there it was, a red Ferrari convertible parked on his driveway. The driver was none other than Kirishima.

Seeing Bakugou, he waved quickly, a smile on his face. Making his way to the passenger seat, Bakugou huffed in some sort of fake annoyance.

"Good to see you, Bakubro." he said, fidgeting and shifting around in his seat slightly. The latter noticed and playfully rolled his eyes, mumbling something about how the nickname was stupid, trying to subtly soothe his nervousness. Kirishima only chuckled.

"Are you ready to go?" he asked, his hand on the gear shift. Bakugou buckled his seatbelt and nodded, mumbling a quick yeah. With that agreement, he drove off.

Bakugou leaned his head against the door frame with his arm extended out, feeling the cold breeze of the midnight air gently caressing his face. He closed his eyes and drifted off, knowing how long it would take to get to their destination.

When they did reach the place, Kirishima gently shook his shoulder.

“Hey, wake up Bakubro.” he whispered into his ear, leaning towards him.

Bakugou awoke, alarmed. “Hu…huh, we’re here already?” he asked, his eyes widened in panic. Kirishima drew back with a chuckle, a sharp smile on his face. He nodded, grabbing a few sheets of tissue and reached over to Bakugou’s face.

“Wh…what do you think you’re doing?” he yelled out, his face bright red with either embarrassment or anger, Kirishima couldn’t tell. Kirishima wiped at the corner of his lips, grinning. Bakugou blushed even harder, sitting there in shock as his heartbeat sped up.

Kirishima took his hand away as he took in Bakugou’s face, furrowing his brows as he checked for… something. “You still haven’t told me what you were doing.” he softly mumbled, his lips quivering. He hoped that the other couldn’t see just how affected he was by that little action.

“Oh, you were drooling in your sleep, so I helped you clean it off.” Kirishima smiled, shifting back into his seat. Bakugou’s face burned even darker, he quickly hid his face in his palms, wanting to cease to exist and his next words made it worse. “Not gonna lie, you looked pretty adorable when you were sleeping Bakubro.”

“Shu…shut up, shitty hair.” he was quick to reply, his voice wavering. Kirishima laughed again, throwing his head back. Bakugou took a deep breath, cleared his throat and removed his palms from his face. Trying his very best to seem more neutral but the blush on his face was stopping that. He only hoped that it was dark enough that Kirishima wouldn’t see it.

“Anyways, why did you suddenly call for another drive?” Bakugou asked, his voice serious.

“Oh, no particular reason, just wanted to see you.” Kirishima cheekily answered, a sly grin on his face.

That answer caught the latter by surprise, making him choke on his saliva. He made an audible sound of annoyance, rolling his eyes. “Stop avoiding the topic, shitty hair.”

Kirishima sighed, taking a deep breath. “I…I’ve just been pretty stressed lately, haven’t been able to really sleep at night, I keep getting those nightmares and waking up in cold sweat.” he finally admitted it. Those nightmares were affecting him again, it even causes him insomnia now.

Bakugou didn’t know what those nightmares were about, he just knew they were serious. He hadn’t even thought to ask Kirishima about them, which he found stupid of himself. But he knew that he probably should ask right about now.

“What are your nightmares about?” Bakugou asked, his voice softening. A frown placed itself upon his face, his eyebrows furrowed. He might’ve looked angry to anyone else right now but Kirishima would know that he was just worried.

“It…it’s embarrassing to talk about, I’d rather not...” he trailed off, smiling sheepishly. He rubbed the back of his neck, a thing he often did when he was nervous.

“It’s okay, just tell me. I won’t make fun of you or whatever.” Bakugou reassured in his own little awkward way. He looked over at him, making eye contact.

“Sure,” he paused and took a deep breath, “In the nightmare, I was belittled and singled out when my crush on someone was exposed. Everyone was disgusted by me and even my crush was too. They all… berated me. Eveybody left and I was all alone.”

“I know how dumb it sounds, I’m sorry for wasting your time.”

Bakugou shook his head, placing a hand on Kirishima’s shoulder. “No, it’s not stupid at all. You’re worried and scared, it’s normal. Don’t be afraid of whoever it is, I’ll gladly beat them up if they hurt you.” he said softly, his brows furrowed.

“You’ll gladly beat any and every person up, Bakubro.” he joked, chuckling.

“You know what I meant, smartass.” Bakugou rolled his eyes, laughing quietly under his breath.

Kirishima smiled, feeling a bit relieved but there was a lingering worry in the back of his mind that remained.

“Do it, confess now.” his mind told him.

Maybe he should.

He decided that he really should.

With a deep breath and a little bit of courage that he forced, he pulled Bakugou’s hands over to his lap. He held them gently, staring into his eyes. The other was panicking, his face slightly flushed red again.

“Hey, Bakugou?” Kirishima asked, his hands trembling a bit as he squeezed Bakugou’s hands in his own.

“Yeah, what is it?”

“I like you, do you want to go out with me?”

“…”

The next few minutes were silent, no one said a single word, they just stared at each other. The silence was somewhat comfortable. The first to say anything was Bakugou. He opened and closed his mouth a few times before words finally left his mouth.

“Sure, I’d like it if we went out on a date.” he whispered, a bit embarrassed that he would say such words to anyone, let alone Kirishima.

Kirishima’s face lit up and he laughed, lifting Bakugou’s hands up to his lips and kissing them. The latter’s face burst into flames as he watched, smiling a bit seeing him so happy.

Under that moonlit starry sky, the two enjoyed each other’s presence, sharing a few sweet conversations. They stargazed, holding each other in a tight embrace as they shared warmth during that cold midnight. They were genuinely happy and carefree, nothing mattered more than the other person to them.
