Work Text:
Lloyd laughed, sipping his tea. Jay and Cole had begun arguing about what shade of green Lloyd's ninja gi was. Misako stood up, smiling, "I think on that subject change it's time for me to head to bed. I'm getting too old to keep up with you all." She kissed Lloyd's forehead, much to the protests of the 16-year-old.
A little later, Zane decided it was a responsible time to head to sleep as did Wu. Nya reminded Jay he'd promised to visit his parents the next day, causing the lightning ninja to quickly go to his quarters, as his parents drained even his social battery. Nya laughed and went to her room as well, having promised to come with Jay (only for the chance to see baby photos.)
So, that left Lloyd, sensei garmadon, Kai and Cole. Lloyd stood up and stretched. "I'm gonna get some more tea if anyone else wants some?"
Cole yawned, "Nah, hot-head and I have some training planned and we need to be in peak physical condition." He stood up and practically dragged Kai away. "Night guys!"
Lloyd waved and slumped a bit. "Want some more tea...?"
"Yes, thank you, son." Garmadon smiled softly at his son, who nodded and forced a smile before going to brew some more tea.
Garmadon looked down at his aged hands. Lloyd placed his cup in front of him and sat across, not during it speak or even breathe too loudly.
After a while, Garmadon spoke up. "I'm sorry, Lloyd."
Lloyd looked back at him. "What for?"
Garmadon looked offended, his tone rising in frustration, "what do you mean?"
"I'm not gonna accept an empty apology, father." Lloyd stood his ground. "Tell me WHY you're sorry."
"What? You know why I'm apologising! You know more than anyone that I need to apologise to you for everything I've done!"
"Dammit, father why can't you apologise properly?"
"I am apologising to you!" Garmadon shouted, and for the first time, Lloyd matched his tone.
"No, you aren't! Just because the Devourer's venom doesn't run through your veins doesn't mean you've stopped being a worthless father! I hate you!" Lloyd yelled, his voice cracking at the end from the strain.
Having heard the commotion from their rooms, everyone had come rushing down to make sure everyone was okay.
"Son..." Garmadon stepped back, holding his hand to his chest. His eyes brows furrowed as he searched his son's face for any sign of regret.
"I'm not your fucking son!" Lloyd held his cup, almost threatening to throw it. Honestly, he probably would've if Cole and Kai hadn't rushed between him and his father.
Gently, Cole brought down Lloyd's arm and pulled him to his chest. Lloyd gripped onto Cole's shirt and hid his face in his brother's chest as he was hugged tightly. He didn't attempt to fight back, he didn't begin crying or anything. He just gripped onto Cole for dear life.
Garmadon watched, his expression was unreadable. Misako walked over and hugged him.
Kai whispered to Garmadon. "I think you two should go... He- he needs to be with Cole right now."
Garmadon frowned. He should've been able to comfort his son, but he just couldn't. He didn't even get the chance to. However, he and Misako left to their bedroom.
Soon, Cole and Lloyd were sat on the floor, the younger of the two almost crying. He couldn't cry, he wouldn't let himself.
"Lloyd... Can you tell me what happened?" Cole asked gently, running a comforting hand through the blonde's hair.
"He left. So did mum... I could forgive them so easily, I know I could and we could just play happy families. But they don't know a thing about me. They don't know how much they've hurt me... I wish I could show them how much being abandoned scarred me."
"Then you have to tell them. You know, family therapy helped my father and I reconnect." Cole advised, but Lloyd just stayed silent. "Go to bed, kid." He stood up, and so did Lloyd, who silently left.
