Chapter 1: (1) The Boy and The Other

Chapter Text

There stood a boy with a black glamour attire, with a heavy dignity looking at the boy who was crawling and bleeding in the land of grass. The boy looked pitiful and timid that the other thought how easy it was to kill him with a single bow. Yet the other was still standing in his hiding, observing how the boy would survive.

“If you see someone who needs help, isn’t it right to lend a hand?” The boy was still crawling to the nearest tree without looking back to see the other’s expression.

“How did you know?”

“I just gave you a life lesson to help others, yet the thing you did after what i said was asking a question? Oh dear, who teached you?”

“What are you?”

The boy flinched. “Take a guess. You look smart, I bet you already know what I am.”.

The other was observing. The boy had small black wings on his back with clothes that were rarely worn by people. He wore a white coat with gold laces and embroidery in the back with a black undershirt and black pants. There was a gold hair accessory that the other didn't know what it was for. His figure was bigger than him yet he looked much weaker. His feet were soaking with blood that was still flowing. His back trembling, he couldn’t see the boy’s face since he was crawling to the opposite way.

“What took you so long just to answer an obvious question?”

“You look weak.”

The boy stopped. “Did you really just say I'm weak?” His pride itched by a sudden attack.

“You’re not?” The other tilted his head.

“I could send you to the end of the world if my power were fully manifested, you know!”. If the boy were looking at the other, he was sure that the boy would be glaring at him.

The other let out a secret grin. “What are you?”

“If I said I'm a demon, what are you going to do? You’ve got a dull sword in your hip, but probably won't be enough to kill me, sorry to say.”

The other stood still while the boy chose to roll his eyes. He hadn't even bothered to see what the other looked like, not interested. “You look like you’re doubting me. Fine, I'm an archangel.”

“What a terrible liar.”

Again, the boy flinched with his back facing to the other. ‘Just who is this brat, what a nasty mouth he got!’

“Do you just want to stay there looking at my mighty back? I asked, don’t you want to lend a hand to this pitiful being on the verge of his death?”

“You look okay.”. Now the boy decided to turn his head and glared at him. “Just who is your teacher? Let me meet them, what a failure student you are!”. This time, it was the other who flinched.

‘How ethereal.’

The boy had a delicate and timid face with long eyelashes and bloodied mouth. His black eyes looked shimmering under the sunset. Now the other could see how well the hair accessory was in his head. The other thought if he saw his face earlier before the boy lied, he might believe that the boy was an archangel even considering his obvious black wings. But suddenly his gaze focused on an arrow that stabbed the boy’s right chest. ‘Oh, he really is hurt.’

“Just so you know that I know what you were thinking. Oh! This boy really is hurt, isn’t he?”. The boy sighed and turned away with hands holding his wound.

“You need to pull the arrow off.”. The boy looked towards the arrow that stabbed deep in his chest. “Just realized, and it hurts real bad.”. The other finally took a step forward and began to add more steps until he arrived beside the boy. He gazed at the arrow and stuck out his hand.

“You just want to pull out? Don't humans have, what does it call? Anesthesia?”.

“Do I look like someone who knows medicine?”.

The boy started to crawl again. “Then don’t bother to help, I'm afraid of pain.”.

The boy glared viciously at the boy. “Stay still.” Then he extended both of his hands to the arrow and pulled it with all of his strength. “IT HURTS! ARE YOU INSANE?” the boy began to cry silently. His tears were flowing heavily but kept his mouth shut tightly, not wanting the other to hear his sob.

“Sorry.” The other looked troubled and took his handkerchief out of his inner pocket and pushed it on the boy’s chest, wanting to stop the bleeding.

“Sorry.” he murmured quietly.

‘Did I just feel like I'm the bad one? He was the one who pulled it out without my consent, tho’

The boy grabbed the other’s hand to stop what he’s doing. “It'll heal by itself gradually. Why bother to dirty your handkerchief, I won't give them back.”

The other chuckled quietly and slowly took his hand back. “Then don’t bother.”

“It’s getting dark, there are lots of dark spirits. Go back, don’t make your guardian worried." The boy tried to stand up. His body wobbled and weakly moved.

The other silently looked at the boy who seemed to want to go away from him “How about you?”

“Do I look like someone who fears The Dark Spirit? I'm probably the darkest in this forest.”

The other looked hesitant to go. “Come with me, I'll ask the chancellor to call the saintess.” The boy laughed, “I appreciate your kindness to heal me, but bringing me to the saintess is the same as a death sentence. You know who I am, don’t you?”

The other’s brows furrowed and his hand fast to grab the boy’s shoulder “You’re coming with me.”. The boy who was barely even standing fell into the other’s hand. “Hey, I said just go!”. Firm as he looked, the other didn’t budge even a little. ‘What? His body is smaller than mine, how did he get this firm?’ The boy’s inner thoughts harboed envy.

As the day became darker, the boy knew that it’ll be dangerous for the other if he kept staying in the forest. Final thought, he had decided.

His wings rapidly flapped and his hands were glowing white.“You know I’m having difficulties, why are you so stubborn? Go back to your house, kiddo.” He put his hand on the other’s head.

Eyes widen seeing a white glow approaching his forehead. His eyes were full of rage, his body tried its best to avoid the hands that were approaching his forehead. But to no avail, he failed. At the end of the day he was just a human.

“What are yo--” Thud.

Here, in the land of grass that was full of darkness, slowly began to be filled with heavy air. Shadows alluring from every side. The Dark Spirit. The Underworld creature that came to human’s world to feed themselves with negative energy. They seduced and tempted humans to take out their negativities until they went crazy. That’s why there was spirit stone in each house so The Dark Spirit couldn’t get close to humans. It’s the wizard’s role to keep humans safe from The Dark Spirit.

The land of grass that was filled with two boys now left with just a frail creature that he himself didn’t know what kind of creature he was.

‘Teleporting that child outside the forest cost me too much. Guess I'll wait for Bihyung to pick me up.’ His hand extended to the sky as he shot a faint white light from his tiny hands while he walked. ‘Now where should I take a rest?’.

The boy slowly picked up his pace, drawing further and deeper to the darkness as he knew, just where he belonged to.
