Unexpected
Jiang Cheng returns from his morning run to find his front door unlocked.
He enters, tossing his keys in the little deformed clay bowl A-Ling made when he was six.
"Huan-ge?" he calls out.
He can smell coffee brewing and there's off-key singing coming from the kitchen.
He enters the kitchen to find his nephew cooking.
"Jiujiu," Jin Ling moves in for a hug, sees how sweaty his uncle is and backs off. Jiang Cheng grabs him anyway, rubbing Jin Ling's head under his armpit.
"Ewww! Now I'm going to have to wash my hair again."
"What are you doing here? I thought you were only coming down next month?"
"I'm still coming down then, but it's fathers day Jiujiu. So I'm here.
Go have a shower and breakfast will be ready when you're done."
Jiang Cheng moves towards his bedroom, a smile on his face.
With Jin Ling away at university he had expected maybe a phone call at most. And then to have his boy home, even if its only for a few hours, is an unexpected treat.
The words, "Then we can talk about you expecting to see Lan Jingyi's father in your kitchen at 9 in the morning," follows him out the kitchen.
