Work Text:
It’s so painfully loud in this quiet hallway to Teru.
His heart sinks deeper and deeper down in his chest as he hears nothing.
He’s anxious.
Something is out of place, he knows it.
Then it materializes. The supernatural.
“Aoi, stay right there.”
A disgusting mixture of a body like a snake and eyes splattered everywhere. A supernatural on the hunt. Teru unsheathed his blade and readied to engage.
Dodging and flashing his sword was effective; he tried to be careful, did have someone to protect- even if Akane was a supernatural himself.
CRACK CRACK CRACK.
SHATTER
It echos throughout the halls, fading away.
“Wha…”
“That supernatural just…”
D IIII NNN GG DDOOONNNGG.
D IIII NNN GG DDOOONNNGG.
CRACK CRACK CRACK.
“President…”
Teru whipped around towards the noise and realized how correct his intuition is, to his horror.
“I don't think...I…”
"Aoi..." Teru grabbed Akane’s jacket collar and tried to drag him. He shook terribly, he wanted to be careful but efficient- he hoped Akane could stand up. Teru is unsure if the redhead even had legs for him to operate on still, as he didn’t look at him.
“President...What's happening!? Please tell me…!”
“Aoi...I...I don't know…”
“You do, you bastard…! Tell me what's going on right now?!”
CRACK CRACK CRACK.
He dropped the collar and turned. Glass pieces, in the trail that they left. Akane was breaking by the second; his hands, hair, clothing, all chipping off. His heart tightened, as he stared into red eyes filled with sheer terror and fear.
“President…”
“Aoi… I’m afraid I might not be seeing you for a while.”
“WHAT!? Pres, what do you mean?!”
“Well..I…” he took a deep inhale, “I believe the severance is happening.”
“The what…?!”
“The severance. The sea between the near and far shores, ‘The Boundaries’ has been a free-for-all connection using the 7 paths that were controlled by the 7 mysteries...but now they are blocked off. So you supernaturals are being forced back in.”
“F...forced back in..?! How can we…”
“You can’t.”
“What!? If there is a way to start it, there is a way to- Ack!”
CRACK.
CRACK,
CRACK.
So little time.
“Pres...I’ll come back...right…?”
“There are possibilities,”
“Will you ever give me a straight answer!?” Akane cried angrily, moving what little left he has of a body to face him.
Teru watched him for a moment, guilt filling his pores, and heart dreading the answer.
“...Yes…” Teru cupped what was left of Akane's face and held it close.
“You might be able to come back, Akane.”
“Dumb bastard you are Teru...dumb fucking bastard.”
CRACK.
CRACK.
…
Crack.
Nothing was in his hands anymore. His breath hitched as he tried to gather little shards of what was currently remaining, only for it to disappear into the drafty air of the hallway.
“Akane, you better come back,” Teru croaked, curling his hands into fists,
“Or I will personality exorcise you myself.”
Small cries echoed around.
