How to be a Heartbreaker

Summary:

"I dare you to... ask Luz Noceda out on a date!"

After Boscha dares Amity to ask Luz out on a date, she reluctantly agrees, telling herself it's just one date with the cute person. Of course, things don't go to plan and she ends up falling - hard, all while everyone thinks she's simply pretending.

Or

Dares get made, feelings get caught, hearts get broken.

Chapter 1: The Dare

Chapter Text

"Truth or Dare, Ams?"

"I don't care, dare"

"I dare you to… ask Luz Noceda out on a date!" Amity glared at Boscha as the snickers of the other girl's filled the room.

"Are you kidding?"

"It'll be so funny" Boscha had started giggling.

"Come on Boscha, I don't have anything against her!"

"You don't have anything for them either." Amity sighed. Luz Noceda had been new to school that week. She immediately made an impression when she tripped over their own feet walking into a classroom, and fell right onto Boscha and slightly ripped her book. Boscha, of course, had said it was okay, but she had maliciously glared at her all during the lesson. To make matters worse, Luz had become friends with the outcasts of the grade, Willow Park and Gus Porter. She had burnt their social life at the stake the first day of attendance. Over the week, Amity hadn't really seen her - only having maths and English with them - but they seemed nice enough. But for Boscha, she was the enemy who needed taking down a peg.

"Come on Ams," Boscha whined at Amity's hesitation, "it's just one date, as a joke!"

"I don't know Boscha, I don't even know if she's into girls!"

"Then message them and find out!"

"That's probably a good idea" - Skara had joined the conversation - "if you message her tonight and tomorrow, then you can ask her at school on Monday, and they won't be suspicious."

"See! Come on Ams" Amity sighed. She was going to regret this, she knew she would. She opened up penstagram.

@goodwitchluzura

                            Luz Noceda

                            She/they

Amity couldn't hold back a smile at her bio.

Amity: Hello.

Luz: ur frnds wont care?

Amity: They're not in control of me.

Luz: oh

"Come on Ams, just ask if they're gay or not, don't leave us hanging!" Boscha moaned, looking up from her own phone. Amity rolled her eyes.

"I'm getting to it!" She cast her eyes back down to see Luz had sent her another message.

Luz: u listen to girl in red?

Amity: I've never heard of that.

Luz: r u a frnd of mara?

Amity: I don't think there's anybody called Mara at our school.

Amity heard Boscha scoff from above her.

"Seriously, Ams. How dense can you get?" Amity just pushed her away with an annoyed glare.

Luz: 🙄

Luz: im asking if ur gay

Amity: Luz, look at my bio.

Luz: kk

Amity imagined Luz clicking on her profile and seeing what it said.

Amity: I feel like I'm reading a 6 year old's message.

Luz: 😝

Amity couldn't stop a smile forming on her face. She heard the whispers and nudges of her friends, but she didn't care.

Luz: i gtg, ttyl

Amity: Goodnight Luz! Speak to you tomorrow!

Amity resisted the urge to send kissing emojis like she did with her other friends, thinking it would be weird and too early with Luz.

When she looked up from her phone, she was greeted to her friend's enthusiastic stares.

"So…?" Skara prompted, excitement in her tone.

"We've been talking, that's it."

"Perfect" Boscha smirked. "That means you can ask her out on a date on Monday! This dare is so good!"

《¤》《¤》《¤》

Out of all messages she could have been expecting that weekend, Luz had not anticipated one from Amity Blight. They had heard much about the girl. Rich, pretty, popular. She had perfect grades, but was rude to anybody who was outside her friendship group. Constantly belittling others, and letting her friends bully people. So getting a message from her was surprising and suspicious. She kept her expectations low, expecting the 'kidding! As if I'd ever message you' to come through. Weirdly, it never did, instead, Amity genuinely seemed to want to be their friend. She was also cute, and Luz had a slight crush on her, so they decided to ask about her sexuality - just in case. Being the awkward person she is, they decided to ask in the meme way, confusing the uptight girl on the other end of the messages. Ultimately, it was an embarrassing endeavour, especially considering her sexuality was loud and clear in her bio.

Luz couldn't help but be sad when they heard their mum pull up onto the drive. Of course, she was happy to be able to see her mum after a long day at work, but it meant they had to stop messaging Amity. Although, the other girl's final text made it seem like they would be talking again.

The next morning (well, it was afternoon by the time Luz woke up), she was greeted with a 'good morning' message from Amity. Being that they had only just woken up, Luz sent what could only be described as gibberish back.

Luz: gs nrofifnf

Amity: ...am I supposed to understand that?

Once she had eaten, Luz cringed at their past greeting. It was embarrassingly bad.

Luz: sry tht was horrible lmao

Luz: i ws half aslep

Amity: Are you sure you're not half-asleep now?

Luz: haha /s

Amity: /s ?

Luz: its a tone indcatoe

Luz hastily sent a screenshot explaining tone indicators to the girl, hoping she wouldn't laugh at it.

Amity: Ohh, cool! I'll try to use those when need be!

Luz: thx their hlpful for me cos im adhd

Amity: Got it!

Amity: How are you this morning… uhh afternoon?

The two ended up talking all afternoon. Surprisingly, the conversation flowed quite easily, with nowhere for them to easily opt out of the conversation if they wanted to. But, Luz decided they didn't want to, she liked messaging the girl, she was so much friendlier than she appeared at school. Besides, how could she hate her, when they had conversations like this:

Luz: i lke anime lmao, u prbs thnk that's weird

Amity: Not at all! I watch Little Witch Academia.

Luz: really?!

Amity: Yeah. I really kin Diana - if you couldn't tell.

Luz: its prtty obvious u wuld

...

Amity: If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Luz: chclate vake! my favrite!

Amity: That's so unhealthy! I would choose salad. There's such a variety of salad that I could easily have a balanced diet and stay healthy.

Luz: ur such a nrd

Luz: how do u even no tht

Luz: i hte u

Amity: No you don't.

Luz: ur rite

Luz: whts ur favrit book series

Amity: Good Witch Azura.

Luz: no way!

Amity: Yes way! /srs My friends make fun of me for it, but I don't care.

Luz: whos ur favrit chrcter

Luz: mines azura

Luz: bet urs is hecate

Amity: Nope! Haha. It's Malingale the Mysterious Soothsayer. I just love everything they represent! Independence, rebellion, power.

The last conversation ended with a huge discussion about the plots and theories of the book. Luz was happy that they had finally found someone to discuss the series with. At her old school, everyone made fun of her, so she had no chance of finding someone to talk about them with. Yet here, they find out that one of the most popular girls in school likes the book series - and doesn't care if people make fun of her for it.

Luz went to sleep on Sunday night feeling content. Not only did they have two friends, but she seemed to be making a third. Things were starting to look up for them, which made them glad they were finally able to move schools!

There was the niggling fear in the back of her mind that Amity was simply pretending. It was a horrible thought, and she couldn't believe that someone so sweet and dorky could ever be so cruel. Even so, Luz decided they would make sure she didn't get too attached, or tell her anything too revealing, just in case.

It was horrible they had to think that, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

Chapter 2: The Question

Summary:

Amity completes the dare and asks Luz out on a date.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Amity enjoyed her conversations over the weekend with Luz. Unlike with her other 'friends', she could say whatever she wanted, without the fear of being embarrassed. Luz was also open, not caring if they seemed weird or cringey in their messages. This meant that Amity felt closer and more friendly to Luz, just after a weekend, than with the friends she'd known all her life.

There was a hope in Amity that her friends had forgotten about the dare, and she could just carry on being friends with Luz. Unfortunately for her, the first thing Boscha said when she got to school was "You excited to ask Luz out today?" with a wink. Amity rolled her eyes.

"It just feels mean." It was Boscha's turn to roll her eyes.

"Don't be so dramatic." - She linked arms with Amity - "Being asked out on a date by someone so pretty and popular would probably make their year. We're helping them!" Amity let herself be dragged away by Boscha, internally cursing herself for being so weak.

All morning, Amity was completely distracted. This resulted in stern glares from the teachers as she failed to answer their questions. It made a pit in her stomach grow; she hated being told off, and disappointing her teachers. In maths, Luz gave her a sympathetic smile when she got a lecture from the teacher. Amity smiled back, grateful at her friend. Weirdly, Luz seemed happier after the exchange, smiling to herself for the rest of the lesson, and stealing glances at Amity (which she pretended not to notice).

By lunchtime, Amity decided she was fed up with the day and just wanted to go home. Of course, sitting with her friends just made it worse.

"Have you asked them yet?" Boscha desperately asked.

"No, not yet"

"Well, when are you going to do it?" She moaned in response.

"I don't know. Soon."

"This lunchtime?" Skara asked, and Boscha nodded along.

"Good idea Skar, you should do it in a minute Ams"

"How cute!" The silver haired girl crooned. Amity glanced over towards Luz's table. They were currently sticking two straws up their nose while their friends laughed along. Amity couldn't help but smile at her adorable dorkiness.

"Ugh, she is so weird" Boscha was apparently also looking at the table. Amity lightly slapped her.

"Don't be rude, and don't stare either! It'll look suspicious"

"You're the one taking so long to ask!"

"I'll ask once I finish eating." Amity purposely took her time with eating, slowly chewing on each small piece of food. The redhead beside her rolled her eyes, knowing exactly what she was doing. Still, Amity pleaded ignorance, pretending she was eating normally.

Eventually, she finished eating, and there was still 15 minutes left of lunch, so she had no excuse. With a little push from Boscha, she got up, grabbed her bags and walked towards Luz at her table. Once there, she gave an awkward wave to the occupants. Luz immediately beamed and did a dramatic wave back, while Gus and Willow simply glared.

"Can I speak to you please Luz?" - she swallowed, trying to control her nerves - "In private?"

"Sure!" They replied, looking ignorantly positive.

Together, the two walked outside of the lunch room and into an empty classroom.

"You're not going to kidnap me, right?" Luz grinned at her.

"No." Amity started playing with the hem of her sleeve, suddenly anxious.

"Are you okay?" Luz's genuine concern made Amity feel guilty about what she was doing, but apparently not guilty enough to stop herself.

"Would you like to go on a date with me?" She blurted out. Luz blinked.

"What?"

"I just think you're really pretty, and kind, and great to talk to, so I just wanted to ask you." It felt easy for Amity to describe Luz like that, as if she wasn't even lying.

"Really?" Luz whispered. Amity nodded in response, anxious to see what they would say. "Of course I will! Text me a date and a time!"

"Cool." Amity grinned. With that, they awkwardly said goodbye as Luz left the classroom. Once she had left, Amity groaned and fell to the floor. It was almost laughable at how easy Luz was to manipulate and trick, they clearly saw the best in everybody. Amity knew they would have heard stories about her, yet she was still willing to go on a date with her. The guilty feeling in her stomach heightened and made her feel sick. She quickly ran up to the bathroom and threw up her lunch into the toilet.

Despite her guilt and regret, she still didn't tell Luz the truth, and went along with the trick anyway. She told herself it would be okay, it's just one date. She could tell Luz the date didn't go well, and she didn't like her anymore. The other person would be happy that they at least got one date with her, and nobody would ever have to know what happened. It would be fine.

《¤》《¤》《¤》

On Monday morning, Luz was a little afraid and anxious about going to school and seeing Amity. They weren't sure if she would be kind in real life - in her experience, girls like her usually were horrible in person, no matter how kind they were over text.

Luckily, she didn't seem to have much to worry about. When they gave Amity a sympathetic smile for getting told off in class, the girl gave a genuine, grateful smile back. For some reason, this made them feel extremely happy for the rest of the lesson. Everytime she thought 'Amity actually likes me, she actually wants to be friends with me' she got a warm feeling in their chest, and resisted the urge to let out a little squeal of excitement.

At lunchtime, she mentioned the weekend's events to Gus and Willow and immediately the atmosphere changed from the lighthearted one. Their two friends exchanged a glance with each other. She raised an eyebrow before Willow placed a hand on one of theirs.

"I don't want to be a downer, but this is Amity Blight, she doesn't associate with lower downs like us." Luz rolled their eyes.

"We're not lower down," she mumbled. The look Gus and Willow gave them was enough to get her to sigh and agree. It was true. They weren't exactly liked by anybody, especially not the popular girls that Amity hung around with.

Later on during lunch, Luz watched Amity stand up.

"I wonder where she's going," Gus pondered. She looked quite annoyed - perhaps her friendship with her group wasn't as perfect as they appeared. Surprisingly, the girl seemed to be walking towards them. Luz started grinning at the thought that she was right, and Amity did like her. Even better, Amity stopped right at their table, and looked towards them, giving the whole trio a wave. Luz immediately waved back, happier than they had been at the beginning of lunch. Amity asked to speak to them, and they instantly agreed. Although, she was nervous that Amity was about to embarrass them, and tell them it was a trick all along. She tried to ease the tension.

"You're not going to kidnap me, right?" Amity denied it, but she suddenly looked anxious. Luz braced themself, ready for the blow of embarrassment.

"Would you like to go on a date with me?" Luz's heart stopped. There was no way they had heard right. There was no way Amity Blight wanted to go on a date with her. Yet, as the girl reeled off reasons why she wanted to, it sounded so genuine, Luz couldn't help but believe her. So, they agreed.

Walking back to the lunch hall, she let out a cheer. They were going on a date with her crush! She practically ran back to their friends, excitedly telling them what had happened. They gave her a small smile, but still looked worried.

"It still seems suspicious…" Willow stated, feeling quite uncomfortable at the situation.

"It's fine Willow! And if I was wrong then, oh well, it's to be expected anyway!" They replied cheerfully, ignoring the confused glances of her friends.

*****

Later that evening, Luz was sitting on their sofa, waiting for their mum to get home from work. She wasn't sure whether they should tell her she was going on a date, so decided to wait - just in case. A notification from their phone caught her attention.

Amity: This Friday, 6pm, I'll pick you up from yours?

Luz: sure! ths isnt kidnap tho? /hj

Amity: Haha, don't worry, of course not!

Amity: I thought I'd take you out for a meal.

Luz: kewl c u thn

Amity: :)))

Amity: Have you done the maths homework yet?

Luz: nah i was watinc til fri morn

Amity: ...but it's due Friday.

Luz: so

Amity: That's leaving it a little until last minute, surely?

Luz: nah

Luz: whn u doin it

Amity: I finished it just before texting you.

Luz: nerd

Luz smiled during the whole conversation. Absolutely filled with excitement for Friday. They were actually going on a date and she couldn't believe it!

I need to pick out an outfit! They suddenly thought, rushing upstairs to find one.

Wait, it's a little early, isn't it? She went back downstairs, suddenly feeling sheepish at how excited they were; nervous, in case it was all for nothing.

Chapter 3: The Date

Summary:

Just a fluffy date chapter :)))

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

For the rest of the week, Amity was filled with nervousness over the date. Half was because she was scared that they would find out that it was a trick, and half was genuine nerves at the prospect of going on a date. This made her more jumpy and anxious than normal. By Thursday, Boscha was getting annoyed with her, and by Friday, the redhead was berating her for it.

"Ams, it's just a date, no need to be so dramatic!"

"Sorry Boscha." She replied, struggling to keep the misery out of her tone. Boscha just rolled her eyes and huffed.

On Friday evening, Amity was just a pile of nerves, as she attempted to pick out a nice outfit. Even if it was a dare, she wanted to look her best. At the same time, Luz was texting her a funny story about when she went on a date at her old school.

Luz: it wnt horribly wrong so embarasin

Amity: Haha! But if your date decides to bring 3 spiders with them - it's clear something would!

Luz: prmise me u wont

Amity: I promise. /gen

Shaking her head, Amity went back to her closet. She had already chucked multiple potential outfits onto her bed.

Eventually, she decided on a pale pink dress which had puffed sleeves, and white lacing at the bottom and on the hemline. It made her look almost like a doll. Her pink gem necklace that she always wore was too dark a shade for the dress, but she thought it was cute so kept it. She tidied her hair up, so the half up ponytail looked less messy, sighing at the brown roots from her dyed blonde hair. For a final detail, she put on a pink and black bracelet, completing the look. She looked, sufficient, she decided. Amity went to text Luz to tell them she was about to leave, and saw a text asking what to wear. She sent back her advice, then asked for the address. Once she had a reply, she went downstairs and grabbed her keys, and quickly got into her car.

At Luz's house, she texted her and waited for them to come to the car. On arrival, Amity's eyes widened. They were so cute! They had put on a purple shirt, with black trousers. Her hair was slicked back, and they wore a black chain necklace. Amity couldn't do anything other than stare as she got into the car, taking in the gorgeousness.

"Earth to Amity!" She was suddenly aware of the tan hand waving in front of her face.

"Sorry!" She blurted out. "I, uhh, zoned out, haha." She quickly turned to face the road, and started the car.

《¤》《¤》《¤》

All week, Luz had been full of excitement for the date. She decided to tell their mum that they were going out with a friend, without specifying who with, or that it was a date.

I'll save that detail for later.

Her friends had been wary for her, continuously reminding them that they were there for her, and not to worry if it does end up that Amity lied. Luz thanked them each time, but secretly wished they would stop, it had started putting her on edge.

On Friday, Luz managed to get distracted telling Amity a story about a past date. They decided to leave out the detail that it was a trick by a popular girl at her old school - deciding it would make her look like she was accusing Amity. When they realised that she actually needed to get ready, they panicked and messaged Amity.

Luz: how fancy is restront idk wht 2 were

Amity: Your spelling is getting better everyday. /s

Amity: It's quite formal, I'm wearing a dress.

Luz: u sem like teh type 2 wear a dress everydy

Luz: but i no wht 2 wer

Amity: Haha. You're not wrong to be fair! But I'm glad you know now!

She also sent Amity her address, before choosing out a shirt and trousers that seemed fancy enough. They did slightly panic about giving someone that popular (and cruel) her address, in case she told her friends, but it was a bit late now.

Exactly on 6pm, they got a text from Amity saying she was there. She couldn't help but be impressed that she got there exactly on time.

"Adiós mamá ¡te quiero!" She yelled as they ran out the door.

"Adiós mija."

Luz got into Amity's car and grinned at the girl, hardly able to hold down their excitement. Weirdly, Amity just stared at her, not even saying hello. So, they waved their hand in front of her face to get her attention. At that, Amity was brought back down to Earth and quickly started driving, a pink flush on her face.

"I'm so excited!" Luz told her, sparking a conversation.

"Me too! I've never actually been on a date before."

"Well I'm glad I'm your first"

"Haha, yeah…" The car fell into an awkward atmosphere.

"So, how come you picked me up instead of me coming to you?" Luz wondered aloud.

"It was just easier, I was driving." The uncomfortableness in her tone told Luz there was more to it, but they didn't want to push it, so they just nodded.

"Fair enough." Luz pushed the buttons on the car radio until it got to her favourite stations.

"80s music?! I feel like I'm in some weird romance novel." Amity laughed.

"I can't help it, I love 80s music!" Luz replied to her. "How about you?"

"I prefer punk rock." Luz tried to hide her surprise at that, they thought Amity would prefer pop or the hit tunes instead. Amity's laugh suggested she hadn't hid it well.

"Always a surprise, am I?" Luz chuckled back at that.

The rest of the journey was filled with the two singing along to the music, and having random conversations about anything that came to mind. The conversation flowed so easily, Luz felt like they had been friends with her for years, not less than a week.

They arrived at what looked like an extremely fancy restaurant. Luz suddenly felt underdressed. Amity gave her a comforting smile, and grabbed her hand to squeeze it, before exiting the car. Luz followed suit. After she had locked the door, Amity came around to the other side to join Luz, and gestured to the restaurant with jazz hands. Luz laughed at her messing around, but had a proper look at her outfit.

She was extremely cute. The flowy pink dress with white frills made her look like a beautiful doll, just with much more personality. It complimented her dyed blonde hair perfectly, and Luz couldn't help but stare, just like Amity had earlier.

Amity grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the restaurant, so she would follow. As they got closer, she dropped the hand and let out a hasty apology.

"I just didn't want to be late." Luz grabbed her hand back up.

"It's okay" They smiled at her. "We're on a date, we can hold hands." She didn't miss the blush on Amity's face as she looked away.

They walked into the restaurant, and the interior was fancier than anywhere she had ever been. The tables were covered in white tablecloths and shiny silverware. The lighting was dark and ambient, and there were expensive looking paintings on the wall. Still holding onto Luz's hand, Amity was telling the waiter her name to be led to a table. They were seated in a booth, which made it feel so much more cosy and close - like a proper date.

Luz picked up the menu and they were instantly shocked at the prices.

"Amity, I can't afford this." They whispered.

"I'm paying." Amity spoke back.

"But-"

"Luz, I'm rich. And I wanted to take you on this date, and I chose the place, I'm paying." Amity left no room for argument, so Luz sighed and complied.

They didn't want to choose anything extremely expensive (she didn't want to be rude) so went for the burger, whilst Amity chose the vegetable lasagna. Luz raised an eyebrow.

"Are you vegetarian?"

"No, but that doesn't mean I prefer the vegetable lasagna."  Luz nodded, hating how it sounded like she came often.

"So…" She awkwardly tried to find something to say. "What made you dye your hair blonde?" Amity stiffened at their question.

"I just like it, no other reason." Luz didn't quite believe her, but couldn't exactly argue otherwise. So, they chose something else to talk about.

"Got any siblings?"

Great date questions, Luz.

"Two, a brother and sister, they're twins, a couple of years older. You?"

"Nope, I'm a single child!" Amity laughed.

"You sound so enthusiastic about it!"

"That's because being an only child is great! I get all of my mami's attention, and don't have to share with siblings." Amity's laughter started dying down when she heard this.

"Yeah, my siblings are the definition of annoying. Always trying to prank me and stuff. But they're always there for me when I need them." She smiled sadly at this. Luz wanted to press further, but they didn't want to upset her.

The meals came, and the two spent less time talking and more time eating. Of course, they did chat between mouthfuls and learnt a lot about each other. Like, that Amity's favourite colour is pink, and she has a plushie of her favourite childhood book character that she sleeps with every night. In exchange, Luz told her that their favourite colour is purple, and they sleep with an Azura plushie every night. All in all, they learnt they had a lot more in common than maths together and a love for the Good Witch Azura.

By the end of the evening, Luz was sad to have to depart from Amity. On the journey home, they listened to Amity's punk rock music while laughing about the evening.

"It was a bit embarrassing when he choked on his steak."

"You're telling me! I nearly choked trying to hold in the laughter!"

When they arrived at Luz's house, Amity also exited the car to let them out.

"I had a great evening, Luz." Amity was looking deep in their eyes, completely telling the truth.

"Me too, Amity" she replied, equalling the energy. She could have leant in for a kiss, but something was stopping them. They noticed Amity's eyes flick down to her lips a couple of times. Ultimately, Amity lifted up the hand she was holding, and gave that a kiss instead.

"I'll see you on Monday." She waved goodbye as the car sped off.

《¤》《¤》《¤》

Amity felt extremely guilty and confused at her feelings. On the date, she had a great time and got to know Luz so much better. By the end of the evening, it was safe to say she had fallen head over heels. This sparked a huge problem. If her friends found out about her feelings, they would moan at her, make fun of her, and end up forcing her to stop being even friends with Luz. But, if she didn't tell Luz her feelings, and just carried on treating it like a dare, then she would be unhappy, and she knew that they would be as well. Plus, there was also the whole issue of what if Luz found out it was a dare?

After Amity pulled up in her drive, she just sat in the car, not wanting to leave. She dug her head into her hands and let out a loud scream, knowing nobody would hear it.

"I shouldn't have agreed to this stupid dare! Now look what happened!" She shouted aloud to the air. She was responded with silence. So, she let out a groan of annoyance.

Ten more minutes in the car, screaming and moaning out loud, she made her decision. She would carry on being friends with Luz, and hope both of them were the type to skirt around an obvious crush (if Luz did have a crush on her - which she probably did considering they agreed to a date) until eventually the feelings went away and they were left with regret. It wasn't the best situation, but it was better than her friends finding out that she liked Luz Noceda. It was even better than Luz finding out it was a dare.

A couple of chimes from her phone inspired her to leave the car, so she could get inside before looking at them.

Luz: i had a gr8 evening 😁

Amity: Me too! :)))

Boscha: how'd it go? dare completed?

Amity: Yep! Dare completed.

A tear slid down the girl's face. She hated what she had done.

Chapter Text

On Saturday morning, Amity sent a good morning text to Luz, like she did every morning. As expected from the fact it was the weekend, she didn't get a reply until the afternoon.

Amity: How can you sleep in so late?

Luz: talent

Amity: Haha. /s

Amity: Don't you feel like you're wasting the day?

Luz: nah i dont hve much 2 do anywy

Amity: Schoolwork?

Luz: biring

Amity chewed on her lip, an idea forming in her head.

Amity: Why don't we go to the library today and do some school work together?

Luz: a homewkr d8? exactly wht i expect frm u

Amity: It doesn't have to be a date. And we could read Azura books afterwards…

Luz: azura d8! yes pls

Amity: Haha! See you there at half past 1?

Luz: kk

It wasn't until she put her phone down that she realised what she had done. She'd decided to go on a second date with Luz, less than 24 hours after the last one! She had well and truly fallen for the person, and she couldn't control her feelings. It was all a mess.

She groaned, grabbing a cushion from her bed and digging her head into it. Her 'amazing' plan from last night had already blown to smithereens.

Another idea came into her head. She could just date Luz. If her friends moaned at her, she could blame it on them, and then thank them for helping her get into a relationship. She didn't even like them anyway, so it didn't matter if she lost their friendship. Sure, her parents would be mad, but it was only a couple of years until college, she could endure it. Luz would never have to find out about the dare, and they could get into a relationship and be happy. She giggled in glee. This was all working out!

She packed her bag ready for the trip, and changed into a pink pinafore dress with a white long-sleeved top underneath, trying to dress up a little bit more since it was a date. When it was time to go, she practically ran out of the door.

《¤》《¤》《¤》

Luz was really excited for this second date. They weren't sure if Amity intended for it to be a date, but she had put the idea out there, and now they were going on a library date. It was incredibly nerdy, yet incredibly cute. She wasn't sure what they needed for it, so they packed maths and English books, then book 1 and 2 of the Good Witch Azura series. They decided to wear cargo trousers with their purple and white cat hoodie, hoping she would look adorable.

As per usual, Luz was late to the library. She knew Amity would already be in there, so sent a quick message asking her where she was. The girl replied instantly, saying she would find them. Luz waited by the door for her, scrolling through penstagram.

"Hey Luz." Amity's voice rang out, so Luz glanced up. They couldn't help stare at her - her casual outfit looked fancy and cute.

"Pretty…"

"What?"

"Nothing!" Luz awkwardly laughed and started moving forward. "Where are we sitting?" Amity led her through the library, looking quite anxious. They moved to a quieter section, towards the romance.

"Wow, romance, trying to give a hint." Luz winked at her at the end of their sentence.

"No, look." Luz watched as Amity grabbed a book and pulled it carefully. Suddenly, the whole wall moved, leaving an opening for a hideout.

"Wow!" Luz gasped, staring around in wonder. There were shelves of fantasy books, with a desk at the back of the room, and beanbags and cushions to the side. Fairy lights and stars were hung from the ceiling, giving it a dusky feel.

"This is so cool!"

"Thanks." Amity was blushing, and slightly looking away. "The master librarian showed me it, when I was looking for somewhere… more quiet."

"Does anybody else know about this?"

"No, you're the first." Amity was smiling at Luz, a glow in her eyes. It made Luz feel special, loved, she never would have thought somebody would be willing to show them such a private space.

"Thank you so much for trusting me." She whispered this, as if afraid to break the bond if she spoke too loud.

Amity sunk down onto one of the beanbags and gestured for Luz to do the same. They happily obliged, wanting to sit as close to the girl as possible. Together, they did the maths homework that was due the next Friday; which was the earliest Luz had ever done it. Amity was extremely helpful when she was stuck, and stayed patient.

"You would make a great tutor." They told her when they finished their homework. This made Amity flush, smile, and look away, bashful. This just made Luz smile. She wanted to make Amity happy and proud forever.

"Good Witch Azura now?"

"The best part of the date." Amity agreed, a smile on her lips. The enthusiasm in her voice made Luz swoon. They just wanted to kiss Amity and call her their girlfriend, and be together forever. She wondered if it would be too early to ask her out.

Still, she grabbed the first Azura book out of their bag, and together, they read, taking it in turns to narrate, while Luz voiced Azura and Amity voiced Hecate.

《¤》《¤》《¤》

Watching Luz passionately read out of the books was the cutest thing Amity had ever seen. The sparkle in her eyes, and the glow on their face stood out as they read. Underneath the low lights, they looked gorgeous and happy. Amity felt a warm feeling in her chest as she watched and joined in with the reading.

At some point, Luz had stood up to act out the actions as they read. Amity preferred to stay on the floor, but the view was still just as great. She couldn't keep a grin off her face at Luz's terrible acting. This just sparked them to act more dramatically, which caused the acting to somehow get even worse.

Before she could stop herself, Luz managed to trip over their own feet. This sent them plummeting to the floor, towards Amity. The blonde girl managed to catch them before they smacked their heads together.

"Careful." She laughed. Then she stopped. Luz was mere inches away from her face, looking at her with a strange expression on their face.

Should I kiss them?

Before Amity could answer that question, she felt Luz leaning in.

She was thinking the exact same!

Amity started leaning in towards Luz, and their lips quickly collided. She felt the other person sink into them, shifting their weight so they were in a more comfortable position. She tasted of chocolate milk, mixed with the saltiness of sweat. It was the best thing she had ever tasted. She never wanted to pull away.

《¤》《¤》《¤》

When Luz fell onto Amity, she wasn't sure if she would want to kiss back. So, they started slowly leaning in, hoping the girl would understand what they were doing. She seemed to get the message as she leant forward towards them. Their lips connected, and a rush of warmth spread around Luz's body. Amity's lips tasted of strawberries, and Luz savoured the moment.

After a while, they broke off the kiss, but panting and smiling at each other.

"That was, just… wow!" Amity giggled.

"Amazing!" Luz looked down. They had kissed, that meant Amity liked her back. They took a deep breath, they may as well try.

"Amity Blight, will you be my girlfriend?"

"Of course I will!" They both squealed in excitement. Amity grabbed her hands, a more serious expression on her face.

"But, you're non-binary, what do I call you?" Luz blinked. They hadn't thought about that - she'd never needed to.

"Uhh, well I use she/her pronouns sometimes, so you can call me girlfriend sometimes. You could also just call me partner." Amity nodded.

"Okay, got it!" The girl leaned on Luz, so she wrapped her arms around her, cuddling her. They stayed in the warm, comfortable silence.

Eventually, Luz broke the silence, bored with not talking.

"I can't wait to tell my mamí, she'll be so proud of me!" They felt Amity stiffen beneath her. "How about you?"

"Oh, uhh, they- they probably won't care." There was uncomfortableness in Amity's tone. They stroked her arm. She was piecing things together. Everytime Luz mentioned her home life, she always seemed to stiffen up, and only half-answer the question. Luz didn't know much about her in that aspect, other than the fact she was rich. They realised there must be something more to the situation.

"You know you can speak to me about anything right?" They spoke so quietly, she wasn't sure Amity even heard her. A sigh from the blonde told them she had.

"I know. It's just… complicated." Luz didn't reply, she just kept stroking her arm, knowing Amity would tell her if she wanted to. They stayed in silence for a while, before the girl broke it again.

"They're quite strict, always making sure I have perfect grades, I'm the perfect student, with my perfect friends. Even the perfect hair, my mum prefers if I dye it blonde, to match her and my siblings. When I was younger, they forced me to stop being friends with Willow and become friends with Boscha and Skara." Luz gasped, that was a horrible thing to make your child do.

"Willow as in, my Willow?"

"Yeah."

"Wow, no wonder she and Gus hate you, no offence."

"None taken. I deserve it. I was weak, I should have fought back."

"You weren't weak. You were young, you didn't know better."

"Thanks Luz." Luz's mind was working hard to process all of this information, wanting to help Amity as much as she could, even if they didn't have any answers.

"So, I'm guessing they wouldn't approve of our relationship?"

"I'm not sure. I think if I kept my grades up, and stayed friends with Boscha and Skara, keeping up a great reputation, then they wouldn't really care."

"Do you want to keep it a secret?" Luz chewed on their lip. She didn't want to force Amity to be open about this relationship, but she couldn't help but hope that she didn't want to keep it a secret. The silence after the question made Luz aware of Amity's thinking.

"No. I don't care if people know, I love you and that's all that matters." Suddenly Amity sat up straight and looked around in a panic, her face bright red. "Not- not love you, in a love way of course! I love you as a friend, well more than a friend, we are in a relationship, but it's a bit early to say love, and-"

"Amity." Luz let out a laugh. "I love you too." Amity gave her a huge smile, her face fading back to her normal skin tone. Then an expression crossed on her face that Luz didn't understand - almost a mix of confusion, regret and guilt. But that didn't make any sense. Luz shook it off, convinced they were just imagining things.

Thank you so much for over 100 kudos! That is just insane to me :))

Chapter Text

On Sunday, Amity realised that being in a public relationship with Luz meant multiple things. One, her parents would eventually find out - they knew she was lesbian but kept hinting towards her dating Boscha instead - and she didn't actually know how they would react. Two, her friends would easily find out, and she also wasn't sure how they would react. Three, Luz's friends would find out and they would definitely disapprove. There seemed to be a lot of negatives to this relationship.

But, there were also positives. Being able to be with her cute crush, finally being open about herself (more than just an Instagram bio), and if her friends hated her for it then she would have an excuse to leave them. There were enough pros to outweigh the cons.

Amity spent the day flicking between doing her schoolwork and messaging Luz. It was weird going between essay writing, and texting someone who typed like a kindergartener. She also much preferred the conversations with her girlfriend, who would always say something to put a smile on her face. They had a lot of chaotic energy in their messages, that Amity had never had between someone before.

Luz: if i lost all my arms n legs wld u still d8 me

Amity: Of course I would! I didn't date you for your limbs! I dated you for you!

Luz: aww thx

Luz: i wouldnt d8 u /j

Amity: Thanks Luz, love you too! /nm

At some point, Luz had to go for their dinner, and Amity realised that perhaps she should too. Her parents were on a business trip, so she had the house to herself. Usually when that happened, she ended up forgetting to eat - too distracted by all of her work. After she and Luz had eaten, they went back to talking. Amity decided she had done plenty of work (though it was less than usual) and opted to lie on her bed and text Luz all evening instead.

Luz: if my body was replced by a robot wld u still d8 me

Amity: You're starting to worry me that you're getting your limbs amputated! Haha.

Amity: But yes Luz, I would still date you!

Luz: i woildnt /hj

Amity: Half joking?!

Luz: robots r scary

...

Amity: If I suddenly hated anything to do with Good Witch Azura, would you date me?

Luz: absolutely not!! 😠

Amity: Thanks Luz. /hs

Luz: mmmmaybe if u mke it up 2 me

Luz: wht about if i hted it

Amity: Trick question, you would never hate Good Witch Azura!

Luz: hagsvdbdnc ur rite

Luz: hve u ever watched she-ra

Amity: I can't say I have.

Luz: its best show ever and is extremely gay!

Luz: im making u wtch it next weekend

Amity: Okay, sounds cool! She-ra watching date!

Amity resisted the urge to search up the fan wiki of She-ra then and there (like she normally did), wanting it to be a surprise for when she was with Luz.

She could see night falling and darkness coming, but Amity ignored it as she kept talking to Luz.

Luz: si it not past ur bedtime

Amity: Is it not past yours?

Luz: i qait for my mami then go 2 sleep, around midnght

Luz: wht bout u

Amity: I usually get ready for bed at 9pm, then turn the lights off and put my phone phone at 10pm!

Luz: so is past ur bedtme

Amity glanced at the clock. 10:30pm! She knew she was going to regret that in the morning.

Amity: Oh wow!

Amity: I'm off to sleep!

Amity: Goodnight! 😘

Luz: gnnn 😴😘😘

Amity smiled as she turned her phone off and quickly got ready for bed. By the time she turned her lights off, it was 11pm; she hoped the extra hour awake wouldn't affect her too much.

*****

Luckily, in the morning, she was greeted to a cute essay from Luz, so she was in a good mood for the whole day.

She also opened a message from Willow saying that if she hurt Luz, Willow would hurt her. This made Amity feel guilt and regret over the whole situation, but she knew she liked Luz now, and that's what mattered! As long as they never found out how it started, then it would be fine. She never wanted to hurt her partner.

《¤》《¤》《¤》

Luz awoke in the morning excited for the school day. They had never been in a relationship at school, and she wondered what type they would be. As long as they weren't the annoying type who used baby names and made out in the corridors like cringey 6th graders (the essay that morning didn't count as cringey).

For once in their life, they were at school on time. Willow and Gus looked shocked, but after she said the word "Amity" they didn't look surprised.

"Are you sure about dating her?" Willow asked, one final time before they walked through the gates.

"I know you have your history, but you didn't feel the kiss, you didn't hear her loving words. I completely trust her."

"Okay." Willow nodded. "Then I trust her too."

They walked through the gates, and Luz saw Amity to the side, a shy smile on her face. Luz gave her a wave and started walking over to her, ignoring her friends who were all glaring as if to say 'how dare you come near us!'.

"Hey Luz." Amity said softly, walking forward. Luz pulled her into a hug, hoping it would be okay. Amity immediately reciprocated it, so Luz felt comforted that she wasn't being too much. When they pulled apart, Amity kept one hand ahold of theirs. She grinned at her friends who all looked extremely shocked.

"Ams, what are you doing?" Boscha spat out.

"Holding hands with my girlfriend." Skara choked on her water that she was unfortunate enough to be drinking.

"What?! Them?!" Boscha shouted, a little too loud.

"Yep! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go to lessons." She walked off, and Luz had no choice but to go with her (not that they would choose otherwise).

"Sorry about that. They… don't really like you, for no reason."

"That's fine. Nobody really likes me, I'm used to it, I'm a little surprised you do to be fair." Luz chuckled at that but Amity just looked shocked and disgusted.

"That's awful! I don't know why anybody wouldn't like you! You're amazing, and funny, and cute! I'm surprised you like me!"

"Wow, thanks Amity." Luz was truly taken aback. She had never heard someone compliment them so much, and so passionately too. It made her feel so happy. They walked to their lesson together (which was English), laughing and chatting to each other. They also decided to keep eating lunch with their own friends, not wanting to leave everyone behind in their relationship (other than one day a week when they would eat together, just them two).

Still, Luz couldn't resist trying to find Amity before going to the lunchroom that day. She wasn't too hard to find, considering she was always with Boscha. And she could hear her loud, annoying voice from a mile off. They heard her moaning about something from a corridor away, and rushed down it, hoping to see Amity quickly. Just as they got to the end, she paused.

"You're not seriously telling me you're dating them?" Was Boscha talking about her? Despite knowing it would probably end badly, Luz carried on listening.

"Yes Boscha, I like her, a lot." They heard Boscha scoff.

"Sure you do. Maybe you misheard the dare. We asked you to take her on a date, not date them!"

What?

Luz felt her heart stop. They couldn't have heard right. Dare? Her breaths started quickening, their blood rushing to her ears. Their heart was beating quickly, and they didn't know what to do. This whole thing, this whole scenario, it had all been a dare . Amity didn't like her, she tricked them. Just like their friends said she would. She felt like an idiot. They tried to control their breathing, but the feeling of betrayal and hurt pushed against her chest, making it hard to breathe. Boscha, Amity, and their gang came around the corner. Luz froze. She saw Amity freeze as well, panic in her eyes.

"Luz…"

"I can't believe you!" Luz shouted, letting her anger out.

"Luz, I can explain!" There was desperation in Amity's voice but Luz couldn't listen to her.

"I hate you." They hissed, before running off. They didn't keep a track of where they went, all she could focus on was getting as far away as possible. She ended up at the far end of the field, under thick trees. It was windy and cold, but they didn't care. They felt so stupid.

Of course Amity doesn't like me! Of course it's a trick! Girls like her never like someone like me!

Luz curled up in a ball and cried, letting the tears flow down their face. She had completely given up.

《¤》《¤》《¤》

Like Amity assumed, her friends had not been happy to see her in a relationship with Luz. Well, that was putting it lightly. They were well and truly disgusted. At the beginning of lunchtime, Boscha rushed to her and started berating her.

"Luz Noceda?! You chose Luz Noceda?"

"Technically, you chose Luz Noceda."

"As a joke! There's no way you actually want to date them." Amity slammed her locker shut and started down the corridor towards the lunchroom, secretly hoping to see Luz before then.

"Well I would. She's cute, funny, and a great person to text. I like her." Boscha rolled her eyes.

"You're not seriously telling me you're dating them?"

"Yes Boscha, I like her, a lot." Boscha scoffed and leant closer.

"Sure you do. Maybe you misheard the dare. We asked you to take her on a date, not date them!" Amity glared.

"I'm not an idiot. I don't know why you can't cope with the fact I have a partner, just because it's not you, and it's Luz instead."

"I'm not jealous if that's what you're implying." Boscha folded her arms and glared. Amity ignored this and carried on around the corner. She froze. Luz looked almost in pain, or on the brink of a panic attack. Amity knew instantly she had heard them talking, they knew.

"Luz…" She could hear the desperation in her own voice, but didn't care. She needed to tell Luz properly, explain the whole situation.

"I can't believe you!" Luz shouted at her, causing her to flinch slightly.

"Luz, I can explain!" She walked slightly forward, arms out to grab her partner, hoping it would be enough so she could get their attention.

"I hate you." They hissed instead, before running off. Amity had missed her chance. Tears were brimming in her eyes, as the weight of the situation fell on her shoulders, causing her breaths to shorten. She wanted to yell out, to blame Boscha, to punch a locker. But she couldn't. There was no point. Blaming someone wouldn't make her less at fault, lashing out wouldn't help the situation.

"Amity?" Skara asked, looking nervously towards her.

"This was all a big mistake." She ran away from her friends, trying to follow where she thought Luz would go. She made it outside, assuming they would try to get as far out as possible. Once there, she stopped for a moment, allowing herself to catch her breath. When she had recovered, she looked up, and saw a figure right at the other end of the field. It was obviously Luz - or, at least she hoped it was. Taking a deep breath, she ran across the field, ignoring the judging glares of other students. She didn't care about them, she needed to explain to Luz.

Chapter Text

Luz wasn't sure how long they'd been lying there, but it had started raining. They didn't care, they let the rain fall onto her. She couldn't help wishing they were a drop of rain, then she could just wash away, with no worries.

"Luz?" She heard a familiar voice call out tentatively. Amity.

"Go away." They tried to sound tough but her voice broke halfway through speaking. They heard Amity sigh.

"Please Luz. Let me explain." Something in Luz snapped. She had been tricked by popular girls way too often, she just couldn't bear it anymore.

"No Amity!" They yelled, suddenly standing up. "You hurt me, badly, you're just like the rest of them! I trusted you, I thought you were different! But you're not. I thought I loved you, but I hate you." Luz felt hot, angry tears fall down her face, and saw Amity was matching, with a hurt expression on her face.

"...I deserve that. I did hurt you, and I'm sorry. But, I love you, I want to be with you!" Luz scoffed.

"Yeah right, this will probably all be a trick."

"It's not, I promise!"

"Go away." Luz's tone suddenly went calm, with a hint of anger in it.

"Luz, please,"

"Go away!" Luz was shouting again, her face had heated up, they knew she was bright red. Amity physically flinched away before sighing.

"Okay Luz, I'll let you calm down." Amity turned around and walked away, slowly going through the pouring rain.

Luz nearly called out to her, asking her to explain so they could listen, but something stopped her. She wasn't sure if she could quite cope yet, so instead just stared as she walked off. Raindrops fell on them, and they realised she didn't deserve to be a raindrop. She was too weird and annoying and easily tricked. They deserved to be muddy water instead.

*****

Over the week, Luz tried to message Amity multiple times, but couldn't bring herself to do it. Every time they selected her name they suddenly felt sick, and had to exit the app quickly. She felt a pang of sadness every time they saw Amity in school, wishing they could make up, but she just couldn't. There was regret and guilt on Amity's face every time she looked their way, which just made it worse.

Lunchtimes were less fun. They knew her friends wouldn't act smug about it - in fact, they were comforting and kind - but she knew they had a sense of 'I knew it' about the situation. They avoided looking towards the popular girls table, towards Amity, knowing it would just make her feel worse. Their friends tried to distract them by cracking jokes and messing about, but it hurt as she wished Amity could be there with them, holding hands and sharing food and kisses.

Not wanting to worry her mother, Luz had told her she had broken up with Amity as part of a mutual decision. They claimed the two had decided they were too different and it wouldn't work. She could see her mama was looking worried, but they put on a fake smile and acted cheery around her, hoping that would convince their mother that she was fine.

*****

On Sunday afternoon, Luz was on their bed, reading Azura fanfic. She felt a sad wrenching in their heart - they were supposed to be watching She-ra with Amity today. Luz had found a 100k word hurt-no comfort fanfic, wanting to feel sadness for something other than her ex-girlfriend.

At some point, their phone started ringing and they glanced down. It was Amity. Luz moved her hand to answer it before stopping herself. The sick feeling came at full force and they ran to the bathroom, throwing up, tears running down her face. When they returned, Amity had left a voice message. She sounded like she had been crying.

"Luz, please. I want to apologise again. I was a horrible person, and I hope you can forgive me. I miss you." The last sentence was a whisper.

Conflicted, Luz sat there for a few minutes. If they answered the phone, there was a chance she would be tricked and manipulated all over again. Plus, the wounds were too raw, she just couldn't cope yet. So she made a different decision.

Luz blocked Amity. They also blocked Boscha and the rest of the gang just in case. Tears fell onto her phone as she did it, a lump formed in her throat.

After they had blocked them, she collapsed onto her bed, and let herself sob and sob. She could feel their body shaking as they did. This time had affected her more than any other time, mostly because they truly cared for and loved the girl. So it hurt more when she was betrayed.

Just my luck. Luz thought. Nobody would ever want to date the weirdo enby like me.

《¤》《¤》《¤》

Amity was heartbroken as she walked away. She couldn't help but wish she had fought harder, but she was scared of pushing them away further. She decided to give them distance, and let her think for a little while. Over the week, she had gone to message Luz multiple times, but didn't know what to say. Plus she was afraid. Afraid that it would overwhelm or pressure Luz, afraid it would push them away. Instead, she let them come to her instead.

When seeing them in the corridor, she tried to smile, to show comfort, but struggled. Seeing her, and knowing the whole situation, had hurt her, and made her want to cry. She constantly felt guilt in her chest.

On Sunday afternoon, Amity made the decision to ring Luz. She wasn't sure what to say, but she couldn't sit around and do nothing anymore. As the phone rang and rang, she felt tears form in her eyes. By the time the 'leave a voicemail' message came, she was crying. Not wanting to give up, she left a message, hoping Luz would listen. She knew she sounded weak and pathetic in it, but she didn't care, they were her vulnerable emotions - to match the vulnerable side she showed her ex-partner.

Chewing on her lip in nervousness, Amity sat on her bed, waiting for Luz to ring back, or text, or anything to respond. Still not getting anything, she tried to distract herself with schoolwork - she'd gotten quite behind after the breakup. Yet, there was no response. Eventually, she sighed, and thought that perhaps sending an aftermath message would be helpful.

To her surprise, she had been blocked. Before she'd even realised it, she let out a sob. She laid down on her bed and cried. There was no reconciliation now, she had messed up and was now facing the consequences. She could barely be bothered to get herself off the bed to do schoolwork. Her parents simply huffed and told her off for it, telling her to stop being so lazy and miserable, she wouldn't succeed far in life if she carried on like that. Her siblings were also clearly worried, but weren't sure how to help her, so just left her alone.

Her friends simply told her good riddance, and that it would have been weird if she actually dated Luz anyway. This didn't help, she wanted to date them! Not that it mattered now, she had destroyed the relationship by not being honest, and they were never going to get together again.

But this is what she deserved. This is what she knew was going to happen when she decided to mess around with people's feelings like that.

She'd learnt from the situation. She'd learnt to be honest and open in a relationship, she'd learnt not to accept dares like that. More importantly, she'd learnt how to be a heartbreaker.

Let me explain." Against her better judgement, Luz sat up, and glared at her.

"Fine." Amity took a deep breath.

"I won't lie, it started off as a dare, I messaged you so it didn't seem suspicious." Luz felt her breath hitch. They could hardly believe Amity was admitting it.

"But then we started speaking, a-and it was amazing!" Luz noticed tears forming in the blonde's eyes.

"I could be myself with you, I could type random stuff without being judged. I could enjoy the conversation because you wrote random things which made them interesting!" Luz perked up slightly; if she was telling the truth, then they couldn't help but feel a sense of pride.

"After that date, I truly fell head over heels for you! You're just so pretty, and positive, and great to speak to, and words can't even explain how much I like you, how much I want you!" The passion in Amity's eyes as she spoke was bright. She may have tricked Luz at the beginning, but they could see she was telling the truth.

"And you saw Boscha, she was livid that I was dating you! If this was all a dare she would act like she didn't care." Luz thought back to what Boscha said. It was true. Amity didn't have to say yes when she asked her out, she didn't have to kiss them back, she didn't have to run after her now.

Amity sat down on the grass next to Luz, looking slightly uncomfortable at the prospect of sitting on wet mud. Luz had a proper look at Amity. Drenched from the rain, but her hair had started drying and frizzing up. She was shivering slightly from the cold.

"I believe you." Luz whispered.

"Really?" Luz nodded in response.

"But my trust in you has failed, I think- I think we need a break from our relationship until it's formed again." Amity nodded, a tear falling down her face.

"I totally understand. In fact, I'd be a little worried if we just kissed and made up, I hurt you a lot." Amity grabbed Luz's hands and looked them deep in her eyes.

"I'm so sorry, for not telling you the truth to begin with, and for hurting you."

"Thank you."

《¤》《¤》《¤》

The two sat in a comfortable silence, letting the rain pour around them. Amity felt a warm feeling in her heart that Luz did believe her. She knew it would take a little time, but she didn't care, she would rather that than lose them.

Amity could have said something else, but she didn't need to. Just sitting there, in the wet and cold, was enough confirmation for Luz that she truly cared. She had said what she needed to, and it had paid off.

Eventually they had to go back inside. They walked side by side, slowly making their way across the field.

"What do you call a dinosaur that's got wet?" Luz suddenly spoke up to ask her.

"You can't, they're not alive."

"Well not anymore, but when they were alive."

"I don't know."

"A driplodocus." Luz did finger guns after she spoke, a huge grin on their face.

"That was a terrible joke."

"Guess my humour's pretty dry." Luz nudged her side to prove her point, and Amity slightly smiled.

"They're not getting better."

"Wait a second, I'll soon get a rain-wave." Amity couldn't stop a snort from escaping.

"I knew I was funny!"

"You're not funny." Amity pushed Luz slightly, but unfortunately Luz was walking on a bit of mud at that point, and managed to slip over.

"Oops sorry Luz!" Of course, the apology wasn't that great considering she was giggling as she spoke.

"Give me a hand?" Amity put her hand out for Luz to hold onto, cringing at how muddy Luz's was. A sharp pull on her arm sent her crashing down to the floor with a squeak.

"Luz!" She yelled, her whole uniform covered in mud.

"If I'm going down, you're coming with me!" Amity splashed some mud at Luz's face in mock indignation. Luz retaliated by splashing some at hers. They ended up having a mini fake fight on the ground of the field, laughing and squealing. Mud went everywhere, on their faces, in their hair, all over their uniforms - they were a mess!

Amity looked up and noticed nobody was outside anymore.

"Uhh Luz, I think we're a bit late." Luz also looked up and frowned.

"Huh, oh well! It's only maths."

"Come on." Amity stood up and tried brushing the dirt off her. Of course, she was absolutely covered in wet mud so she couldn't do much.

Together, they walked in, and were immediately stopped by the Principal, a frown on his face, who gave them both lunchtime detentions for the rest of the week, then told them to clean up.

Amity had been a little afraid to go home that evening. She knew her parents would be mad about her uniform, and probably punish her.

Amity: On a scale on 1-10, how much trouble do you think I'll get in?

Luz: u? probs 10000

Amity: Thanks Luz! /nm

Luckily, her parents weren't home so she was able to put off the inevitable. By the time they came back, she had cleaned the uniform and didn't tell them about the detentions. What they didn't know wouldn't hurt them.

For the rest of the week, Amity avoided her 'friends'. She didn't want to pressure Luz, so she stayed sitting in the library, mostly doing schoolwork. On Friday, she sent a text to the group chat breaking up their friendship. She found even being by herself in the library was better than sitting with them. She also sent a text to Willow, hoping to rekindle their friendship over time. The other girl agreed and they started talking, catching up for the years.

On Sunday morning, Luz sent her a text.

Luz: wnna go on a d8

Amity: Really? Are you ready?

Luz: i am i wnt 2 tke u somewhr kewl

Luz: pck u up at hlf past 1

Amity: Cool! See you then!

Later on, Amity remembered to text Luz the address, so they could pick her up.

Luz arrived at 1:40pm, but Amity didn't mind too much, knowing they were always late. She shouted a goodbye to her parents and quickly left before they could question her. She entered Luz's car, and changed the radio station to punk rock music.

"No more 80s music." She quipped, and Luz laughed at her. The two talked and laughed during the car journey, which made Amity lose focus of where they were going. They stopped at a random country road, where there was just a forest to the side of them. Luz took her hand (holding a picnic basket in their other one) and led her into the forest. They carried on walking (and Luz occasionally tried to climb a tree with 0 hands, which was terrifying for Amity) until they reached a clearing.

Amity gasped at the sight. Beautiful green grass in a small circular area, with trees surrounding it. There were daisies all over the small field, and other flowers to the edge.

"This is a beautiful place!" She exclaimed to Luz.

"I know." They grinned back. "I found it exploring one time, and I always like to come here when I'm upset, or I need to think."

"This is your private comfort place?" Luz nodded in response. Amity felt a warm feeling in her stomach and chest, proud that Luz was trusting her with being there.

The two sat down on Luz's picnic blanket, and conversed while eating. Amity felt so happy there, and the glow on Luz's face and sparkle in their eye suggested they did too.

Eventually they finished eating, and Luz brought out their dessert.

"Strawberries dipped in chocolate?" Amity exclaimed, before letting out a laugh. "I feel like I'm in a cheesy romcom again." Luz simply grinned, and grabbed a strawberry. She brought it closer to Amity's lips.

"Open wide." She said softly, and the blonde complied. Amity repeated the action back to Luz. Ever the messy person they are, Luz managed to get chocolate around her lips.

"Let me get that." Amity leaned in close, bringing her hand up to wipe it off.

"How about you clean it with your lips?" Luz asked, in such a soft tone, Amity barely heard. She looked into their eyes, confirming they were okay with it. Then, she leaned it, and they kissed. It was somehow even better than their first time, it was more authentic, more romantic. Amity never wanted to stop. She wanted to stay with her partner forever. She loved her.

She was glad Luz trusted her again. She was glad they let her back in. She was glad she never had to learn how to be a heartbreaker

Notes:

This is probably a more satisfying ending not gonna lie lmao
