Tina had known for ages that she wanted to propose to Valerie. She’d bought a ring and everything, but was still figuring out how to actually ask her. She knew Valerie would not appreciate a big proposal, but, still, Tina wanted to make it at least a little special.
Tina, however, couldn’t stop herself from proposing out of the blue the moment she actually did.
They were sitting in bed together. Tina had her phone in her hand only half-reading the webpage on proposal ideas she was on, hoping Valerie wouldn’t read along over her shoulder. Valerie was sitting next to her, tablet in hand reading the paper and doing the crossword puzzle.
Valerie let out a curious hum. “There’s a spelling error in this crossword puzzle.”
Tina turned her head to look at Valerie and wanted to trace the lines on her face as she frowned at her tablet. Suddenly, Tina was overcome with this huge wave of impatience and love for her girlfriend.
“Fuck it.” Tina muttered to herself before she got out of bed and walked over to the dresser.
Valerie looked up, her frown deepening. “What’s going on?” She asked.
Tina turned around, hiding the little ring box behind her. “I was going to plan a whole thing, but here you are being all cute and wonderful and beautiful, so…” She trailed off. Tina walked over to the bed and sat down at the foot of it before revealing the box from behind her back and opening it. “Will you marry me?”
Valerie was stunned into silence. Her mouth hung open and her eyes went wide as she looked at the ring before looking back at Tina. Tina got more nervous by the minute. The huge smile on her face started to dwindle the longer it took Valerie to answer the question.
Valerie put the tablet down beside her and yelled. “Tina, no!”
Tina was about ready to start crying by now. “No?” She said in a small voice.
Valerie immediately backtracked. “No, no, I mean yes. I mean, Ugh!” Valerie tried to explain. She rolled over and opened the drawer in her bedside table and pulled out a box of her own, opening it and showing it to Tina. “I was gonna propose to you.”
Relieve washed over Tina as she let out a big breath. “Oh, thank God!”
Valerie shifted to sit on her knees in front of Tina. “Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” Tina said with enthusiasm before pulling Valerie in and kissing her. The smiles on both of their faces made it a little awkward. Neither of them cared. “Wait,” Tina said as they pulled back, “you didn’t answer my proposal though.”
“I did! I said yes.” Valerie defended.
“Not at first! You nearly gave me a heart attack.”
Valerie wrapped her arms around Tina. “Oh, I’m sorry, baby.” She kissed her. “I do really wanna marry you.” They kissed again.
Valerie pulled Tina to come lie down with her as they kissed. Tina giggled as she felt something hard underneath her and pulled out the tablet from underneath her back.
“You wanna have just-got-engaged-sex now?” Valerie said with a waggle of her eyebrows.
“Nah. We’re about to get married. Gotta practice for that oncoming lesbian bed death.” Tina joked.
Valerie rolled her eyes. “With us? Never.” She said before slipping her hands underneath Tina’s shirt.
