Work Text:
It was summer, and it was actually lightly snowing, oddly enough. This was weird, especially for California. Sam knew it was just the weather acting strange -- but in his mind he couldn’t help but be frustrated with his father, knowing that he would interpret this as some sort of Supernatural sign that Sam was the devil.
So he sat in the trunk, headphones on blasting ‘I Hate Everything About You’. This time was different, the trunk was open, he felt like he was in control of it for once. Still, the anxiety was still present that his father would come and push his head down, slamming the trunk shut.
He felt a tap on his shoulder, shit, he wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings. He spun his head around and whipped off his headphones, resting his hand above his boot where his silver knife was being stored. He calmed down slightly when he saw that it was just a student, but that didn’t mean anything. He kept his guard up.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry I scared you, I just wanted to make sure you were alright.” the girl immediately started apologizing profusely. “Yeah yeah, I’m fine.” Sam said, maneuvering his body a little bit to face her. “But aren’t you cold?” She asked, which she never thought she would’ve asked, in the middle of summer, outside of a party, with a boy who was sitting in the trunk of a shitty rental car listening to Three Days Grace.
“No, I don’t really get cold.” Sam said, there was never really any heating in the Impala during the winter, when Sam didn’t wanna put on a blanket he always froze his ass off. He got kind of used to the cold. “Oh, alright.” Jess said, beginning to head back inside. “Sorry for bothering you.”
“Thanks.” Sam said, after hesitating for a moment, Jess turned around, smiling slightly before heading back inside, “Don’t mention it.”
Three months later, it was fall, a year before everything went down. “Sam, this is Jess, Jess, this is Sam.” Brady introduced the two of them, and they silently agreed that the party from a few months ago never happened, and neither of them asked questions.
