Day-19 Prompt: Office

“Sir, this is my resignation letter.”

Sasuke looked at Sakura handing over her resignation letter to him with a coy smile on her face.

Well, two can play the game.

Sasuke clasped his hands together and asked her, “And why would I do that, Ms.Haruno?”

Sakura sat down on the chair in front on him and put both her elbows on the table before saying, “Because.”

“You should know better than answering ‘Because'.”

Sakura waved her hands and said, “Ah well, you see, sir, I am never the one for office romance.”

“I see. I bet the guy is a lucky one.”

“Now, that you said that, I believe that yes, the guy is very lucky to have me.”

“Hn, I see.”

“So.”

Sasuke raised one of his eyebrows and counter-questioned, “So?”

“So, sir, will you see my resignation letter?”

Sasuke pretended to think before answering, “Hmm, maybe.”

“See you later, sir. Have a nice day.”

Sakura left Sasuke’s office with a sway in her hips.

That little minx.

Their office romance began three years ago. Sasuke was the new boss of the company after Itachi handed over the company to him. Itachi didn’t want to restrict his life in the confines of the office. He seeked his new profession of being a detective alongside their cousin, Shisui. To prove himself in front of his father, Sasuke took the responsibility of the job.

At first, he did everything to manage the affairs of the job but as days passed, his work was becoming boring. All he had to do was attending meetings and being the meat of the females employees of his office. He finally understood why Itachi gave up the office. But everything changed on the day when Sakura Haruno was given the job of being his secretary.

He thought that he was perfectly fine with this job but his father insisted him to have a secretary. His mother, Mikoto Uchiha, one of the Board Members easily picked out the best person suitable for the job. The thought that his mother selected a female was quite annoying to him at first.

He thought that Sakura was like the other annoying girls who ogled him whenever he passed. But that was proved wrong when she maintained her professional persona even after being in his presence everyday for eight hours. With her ridiculous soft pink hair and enchanting personality, she was able to charm him too. Not to mention, her sharp tongue and even sharper intellect.

The first move between them wasn't intentional at all. It turned out that Sakura was the mysterious best friend of Naruto's girlfriend, Hinata. Sasuke and Sakura were both shocked when they met each other at the engagement ceremony organized by the Namikazes and the Hyugas. With the influence of sake, one thing between them led to another. Their romance wasn't the normal at least. The steps of proper romance for them was quite jumbled.

There were no more discussions about their impromptu one-night stand for a few months. Her constant presence and her non-chalant act was becoming quite suffocating for him. His patience was becoming thin before Sasuke finally snapped and yelled out his feelings to Sakura. To his shock, Sakura reciprocated his feelings and felt the same about him. She was scared thinking that their hookup meant nothing to him.

That was the beginning of their love. Or as Naruto smugly said, "Teme, you should thank me that you met Sakura-chan during our engagement."

Office romance wasn't an easy task for them at all. They could never go any further than sneaking kisses here and there. Sasuke always fisted his hands whenever he saw any male employee asking out Sakura for drinks or dinner which she rejected, obviously. Sasuke would "accidentally" give them extra work with a very short deadline. No one touched his Sakura except him.

They were lucky that their relationship stayed hidden for almost three years. Sometimes, they were at the risk of getting caught red-handed by the employees but they would get saved at the last moment. They moved in together, far from the office district, after two years of being together. When Sasuke proposed her on their third year of anniversary, she accepted and also said that she would resign from her post. Although Sasuke didn't like her idea much at first, he understood her reasons and conceded. She didn't want herself to be labelled as a "gold digger" or any other distasteful names. If she was happy with her decision, then there was no reason for him to intervene.

A series of knocks brought back Sasuke's attention to the present situation. He cleared his throat once before yelling out a "Come in". He lifted his head from the document he was signing and saw his favourite girl (except Mikoto) entering his office.

With a concerned voice, Sakura asked him, "Sasuke-kun, are you still working?"

"Hn. Almost done. Come here."

Sakura came closer to him and he pushed back before pulling her down to his lap. Sasuke laid his head on her shoulder while she was  rushing his bangs with her fingers. He sighed in relief and kissed her neck before pulling back his head to look at her. He noticed the necklace she was wearing. The necklace had a pendant of her namesake which he had gifted her on her birthday.

"Sasuke-kun, come on. You can continue tomorrow. Let's go home now."

Home.

Home with the woman he loved.

It felt so surreal to him.

He nodded his head and agreed. Sakura got up from his lap and pressed a hand on the wrinkles of her skirt. Sasuke picked up his coat from the back of his chair and pocketed his car keys before grasping Sakura's hand.

"Come, Mrs. Uchiha. Let us go home and have dinner."

Sakura giggled and reminded him, "Sasuke-kun, we aren't married yet."

"But soon you will."

END.
