Work Text:

Peggy regretted the sweater once they entered the botanic gardens. It was explicitly their first date, in a romantic way, and also the very first date of Peggy's life, and her emotional support dog was left at home because she trusted that the gardens would be chill - and if not, Woe could help her. But she was already overheating from the gentle fingers around her hand, and she didn't think she could survive the whole date.

"Whoa, this place is beautiful." she commented, not noticing Peggy's minor panic spiral.

"Right? I came here with my cousin all the time when we were younger. She took pictures of everything and I bothered the workers with dumb questions about the plants." Peggy said, rolling her eyes.

"Oh, I'm sure they weren't bothered." Woe looked at her with those warm, beautiful eyes of hers. "They must've worked here because they like plants, right? Besides, there's worse things to do than answer a pretty girl's questions."

Peggy let out a laugh, flustered. "Gosh, how do you do that so easily?"

Woe smiled at her. "Do what?"

"The flirting thing! You're so smooth and sweet and I lose all my brain cells."

She laughed. "You flatter me. Come on, tell me all you know about the plants."

And so Peggy did. She pointed out the fuchsias, her cousin's favorite flowers, the violets and marigolds she was familiar with after helping her mom with her garden, the succulents she kept in her dorm room, and many more, with Woe providing commentary or little quips about them. By the end of the day, the sun was setting and they were by the hanging ferns, looking out into the outer gardens. At some point, Peggy had stopped just holding Woe's hand and held onto her arm without noticing.

"...Oh, I think we saw all of them."

"Yeah. Barely saw the time pass."

"It goes fast when you're in the middle of so much beauty." Peggy attempted, looking up at Woe's face to see if her flirtation worked.

It must have, from the way she smiled. "It does, doesn't it?"

She turned to look at her, and Peggy's anxiety spiked up a little bit. Woe tucked a stray hair behind her ear, looking at her face with adoration. She cupped her face with one hand, and Peggy lightly held on to her arm.

"Can I kiss you?" Woe asked, in a low voice.

"Yes." she muttered back. Woe held her face with both hands and placed her lips on hers.

Peggy felt all the joints in her body loosen and melt her against Woe's figure.

Oh, she thought. So this is what it feels like.

She didn't know for how long they kissed, but it was entirely too little and by the end Peggy's face was burning red. She couldn't keep a big grin off of her lips, and neither could Woe.

"That was my first kiss." was the first thing she said, very intelligently.

"Was it good?"

"The best."

They kissed more, and by the time they stopped it was pretty much night and the gardens were closing. Peggy was nervous riding on Woe's motorcycle the first time, but now it was just an excuse to hold on tight to her as she brought her home to her mom like the gentlewoman she is.

They walked up to the door, and stopped there to have a moment, both hands interlaced with each other.

"I had a great time with you today." Peggy commented.

"Well, I'm glad. I enjoyed it very much as well." Woe smiled. Peggy couldn't resist it, and she leaned up to kiss it.

"Bye." she said afterwards, without making any movement to let go of Woe's hands.

"Bye, see you at school." Woe continued.

They looked at each other, completely unable to keep smiles off of their lips, until the door opened and Peggy jumped out of her body. It was her mom.

"Sorry to interrupt you two lovebirds, but it's getting quite dark and dinner is getting cold." She smiled. "Hi, I'm Alexandra, and you must be Woe?"

"Yes. It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Hawkstar." she shook her hand, and Peggy's mom waved her other hand around.

"Please, just call me Alexandra. Will you be staying for dinner?"

A voice that Peggy recognized clearly as Natasha called out from inside. "Will you be staying forever!?"

Peggy buried her face in her hands as Woe responded with a chuckle. "I would love to stay for dinner, but it really is getting quite late and I have other responsibilities to attend to. Another day, perhaps?"

"Of course! Just tell me in advance and I'll make a lovely dinner for you all." Alexandra smiled.

"Goodbye for real, then?" Peggy looked up at Woe, one hand still on her face.

"Goodbye for real. I'll see you around." She leaned down and placed a kiss on her cheek, then put on her helmet and hopped on her bike, disappearing into the night. Peggy walked into the house and looked at her mom, who was looking at her with a knowing smile on her face.

"You're head over heels for her, huh?"

She just sighed happily in response.

Later that evening, after she was grilled for information by her cousin during dinner, Peggy laid down in bed and looked at her phone. One unread message.

Made it home safe. Can't wait to see you again 🌵

Oh, how could she not fall for her?
