Nya could not sleep. She gazed over at her boyfriend, who was still sleeping soundly, unaware of her stirring.
Nya carefully slipped out of bed, cringing when it gave a creaking noise. She padded softly over the carpet to the bathroom, where she closed the door silently. Turning on the light, Nya looked herself over in the mirror and sighed.
She hadn’t been sleeping well lately at all. Jay hadn’t noticed yet, and Nya was determined to not bother him with it. What was a little loss of sleep, anyway? A hot shower was sure to help her feel a little more relaxed.
Pulling back the curtain, Nya turned the knob to the water faucet and began running hot water and began to undress.
Stepping under the warm spray, Nya let the water run over her body, letting it wash away all the anxiety and discomfort she felt at the moment.
Nya froze when she heard the door to the bathroom click open softly, and then shut again. She held her breath, staying as silent as she could. Her body tingled with anticipation and fear.
“Nya?” A voice spoke from the other side of the thick shower curtain.
Nya let out a sigh of relief when she realized it was Jay. “Jay.”
“Are you okay?” He asked. She sensed a slight worry added to his voice. “It’s literally midnight, what are you doing up so late?”
Nya hesitated. “I… couldn’t sleep. Do you mind if I sleep on the couch tonight?”
Jay pouted. “You’re not going to sleep with me?” He asked. She could hear the frown in his voice.
Nya bit her lip. “...okay, I’ll sleep with you instead.” Jay smiled.
“Hurry up in the shower, then. Come to bed with me,” Jay said, and padded out the door, leaving it open.
Nya turned the hot water off, whimpering slightly at the loss of the comforting heat on her skin. Wrapping herself in a fluffy white towel, she went out to the bedroom and sat down next to Jay, who was waiting for her. A soft sigh escaped her lips, and she leaned against him, closing her eyes.
“Nya,” he prodded her shoulder gently, making her stir slightly. “It’s late. We have to go to sleep.”
Yawning softly, Nya stood up, grabbing the fresh, clean clothes her boyfriend had put out for her and got dressed. She didn’t really mind him watching, it wasn’t like she hadn’t done so before. But she felt heat rising to her cheeks when he looked at her, and swatted at his freckled face in embarrassment to make him laugh softly.
When she was done, he spread his arms out for her to fall into, and she did just that. Nya wrapped her arms tightly around him, feeling safe in his grip.
“I love you,” she whispered, burying her face in his shirt.
He smiled, and moved her gently onto the bed, tucking her underneath the sheets. “I love you too.” He gave her a soft peck on the forehead before laying down next to her.
Jay moved closer to her, holding her as close as he could. She snuggled next to him, closing her eyes in contentment. When he pressed a longer, firmer kiss to her forehead, Nya knew she was going to sleep well.
