"Hm~? Is Rinne-kun clingy today~?"
"'m not clingy…"
Rinne embraced Niki by the neck without warning, shifting close enough that he could fit in Niki's lap, face buried in Niki's shoulders. One of his legs almost hiking up Niki's own, he was clearly comfortable.
Their relationship had recently started to blossom after MDM, and it made their time together as a couple different from the previous 3-4 years.
It was intimate, a little more care and affection to add to their already existing behaviors.
"Ya hair's just soft…"
"Hm?"
Rinne didn't respond, only slightly pulling at Niki's low ponytail, letting his hair fly free.
"I'm sure that's not the ooonly reason you're stuck to me."
"Just lemme appreciate ya," Rinne said, ruffling Niki's hair, "Ya're beautiful."
"I thought this was about my hair~?"
"Shut it…"
"Nahaha~"
Another day of Rinne being overly affectionate out of nowhere. It was like a game of spin the wheel on what Rinne was going to do for the next half hour. This time, Rinne was nuzzling himself into Niki's hair.
He was loud about why he liked it so much, coming with benefits like pulling his hair when Niki wasn't paying attention to him, but mostly because it was soft and smooth compared to his own messy head of hair. He took incredibly good care of it, and Rinne was somewhat drawn in a way that left him unable to look away.
"...Cute," Niki mumbled.
"'m not cute."
"Li~ar."
Niki lifted his hand up to pet Rinne's hair, and Rinne responded with a small whine.
"Sorry, is this okay?"
Rinne didn't make any sound in response this time, just nodded slightly, as if he was nervous to say what he wanted.
Rinne's hair wasn't as pleasing to touch as his own hair, but Rinne was incredibly fond of headpats, and it was cute to see him react to them. So, Niki settled with a routine of ruffling it up, scratching his scalp a little, and maybe petting him.
'He's kinda like a cat…'
He started his little routine with the ruffling, arguably his favorite part, as Rinne would move his head in response, prompting Niki to go a little rougher than intended.
When he started to lightly scratch his scalp, Rinne reacted by nuzzling closer to Niki.
"Good?"
Rinne was whining slightly, yet encouraging Niki to continue.
This is going to be a long, long night.
…
Though Niki would end up 'petting' him for a while, he eventually got tired and settled on embracing Rinne in turn.
"It's getting late," Niki reminded.
"...I don't wanna leave…"
"You can still cling onto me when we get to bed, y'know."
"'m not clingy…!"
Niki giggled a bit. Sometimes, Rinne could be way cuter than he realizes, and this is one of those times. He just wants to stay with Niki as long as possible, keep him close, and make him happy. If the two of them could, they'd stay there forever, but both are too stubborn to admit it.
"Fine, a little longer."
Rinne let out a simple hum of approval.
"I…"
"Hm?"
"...Not sayin'."
"Aww, c'mon~," Niki pretends to be upset. He knows what Rinne wants to say, but he's patient enough to wait.
Rinne moved his head away from Niki's shoulder, simply looking down with an embarrassed, flushed face. Incredibly different from the image of a cocky front he would usually enact.
It hits Niki that he's one of the few people who gets to see Rinne like this. It makes him feel fuzzy, as he moves closer to Rinne's face.
"Do you want to say it now?"
Rinne was silent, hesitating a little, before mumbling a genuine-
"...I love ya…"
Niki nuzzled slightly closer, embracing him again, before falling silent.
"I love you too, Rinne-kun."
