Ouroboros Rondo

Work Text:

It was an infinite void.

A world above the one known by man.

A world below the one known by man.

An endless void.

An expanse of white that went on and on and on, Even if one were to reach the edge of the world there would still be a blank expanse beyond the horizon.

However....

Within this pristine void, The Other clashed.

Silver clashed with azure.

The two clashed atop the only structure within this world. A series of stone slabs equal in size to the two titans who fought atop them, The silver and black giant, No, Machine drew forth from the ether a golden, Brilliant light that formed into a bow. Its two right eyes glared at its opponent and drew back the bows string, A golden arrow formed in its hand.

The arrow let loose, A calamitous falling star that shot forth ay its azure opponent. The machine in response drew forth a black and crimson curved sword, Swinging forth the calamitous star was parted, The falling star now severed fell as the blue machines large leg shields lit up with runes and sigils across their frame.

The azure titan readied its blade as it jumped.

Space and time became distorted around the titan’s legs, Propelling it with immense speed allowing it to easily reach its foe, The silver titan had met its opponents black blade with its bow which had changed its shape into a cross. The two weapons clashed with force and power to wipe out continents, The clash of opposing forces caused the two machines to be pushed away from each other, However the black blade changed.

A fan of blades unfurled at its tip, The azure giant pulled its arm back and threw its weapon. The sword flew like a boomerang across the void like world, Spinning towards its master’s enemy who retaliated its cross, The golden blade left the flying scimitar careening away.

However, Just as the black sword was deflected, The azure titan jumped again.

Too quick, Too close. The azure giants right palm was thrusted at its foe, An emerald glow clad black sphere in hand, Struck at the silver giant.

There was no way to retaliate in time, No way to counter or escape.

The canvas like world was consumed in a flash of light.

The light faded.

The azure titan’s attack had, In deciding the victor, Missed.

The silver titan’s body was ruined, Its entire left half, San’s the left side of its head, Was destroyed.

In the world of man, This is where the battle would have been decided.

However.

This was not the world of man.

Its foe had achieved what would in any other situation be impossible, It had both survived a spell that, Left unbound, Would envelop and destroy an entire planet and had within those seconds before contact, Moved a few micrometres assuring its survival.

The silver machine, In a flash, Charged its enemy and with its golden blade severed its foe’s left arm from its body.

Carrying the momentum, The azure machine in kind swung its remaining fist at its adversary smashing into the left side of its face. However, Because of the awkward angle all the attack did was destroy the silver machines single left eye. Returning the favour, The silver giant brought up its knee and struck its foe, The azure giant’s dark emerald vizor which obscured its face was now covered in a spider’s web of cracks, Its green eyes glowed with intensity as it down its rival.

The azure machine drew forth otherworldly power once more, The space around its hand began to twist and flow and change. Reality was being distorted, Rejected, Rewritten and Overwritten. The desired phenomenon was given form, The space around its hand had been transmuted.
Now the azure god held a sword forged from the flesh of the blank world and swung.

But…

The silver god was faster.

The victor was decided.

Th azure titan’s upper body was severed from the rest of its form.

And yet…

Even though it was faced with the reality of defeat…

Indeed…

It still refused to yield.

Even as its broken form fell, It never broke the glare it held at its foe standing atop a slab.

“…No matter what it takes…No matter who stands in our way…”.

The voice of a man had pierced through the white void.

“…No matter how many times it takes…No matter how many aeons pass…”.

The voice of a woman followed.

“…From the depths of my soul, I can hear it…”.

“…Absolutely, I believe it without a single doubt…”,

“…That roar…”.

“…That dream…”.

“…I…” He spoke.

“…I will…” She spoke.

“WE WILL-!” Both spoke in unison, Shaking the world.

“-DEFEAT YOU!”.

The azure giant reached out to its foe, Defiantly fighting even in the face of defeat.

The silver giant looked on, Its foe falling down through the world.

“No, This time it seems…You have lost, My eternal rival. Perhaps the wheel of fortunes next revolution will side with you, I look forward to our next battle… Azure sorcerer”.

A mans voice flowed from it, A divine king standing above all things yet addressing his foe as though they were old friends…Perhaps something more.

All the azure titan could do was rage silently as it drifted below the world.

-

A sickly green and yellow fog passed them.

As far as they could see, This miasmic mist was the world they found themselves adrift in.

However, the fog darkened.

And soon, The darkened fog parted.

All around, Dwarfing the azure titan in size were pillars and islands of dark, Sickly green stone. Atop them where square and rectangular pillars whose carving was reminiscent of cities.

The azure titan was little more than a speck of dust in comparison to the sheer size of the structures that past it by, Floating in various directions seemingly without purpose or reason.

As they continued to drift through the fog filled more of the massive stone structures continued to appear from and disappear into the omnipresent fog.

Then the world itself distorted around them, The fog filled world spiralled into a blinding epicentre which exploded into a flash of white as they entered another, Alien world.

-

A pillar of water rushed into the sky as the azure giant broke through the water and began a descent into the blue depths.

A storm of bubbles exploded around the metal giant as it descended into the vast ocean it found itself in, Falling deeper and deeper and deeper into the bottomless depths of the world.

Falling.

Falling.

Deeper.

Deeper.

Deeper.

Falling deeper into the blue abyss.

Deeper.

Deeper.

Deeper.

Falling deeper into a dark lonely world.

However, something peculiar occurs.

A click rings out amongst the overwhelming darkness.

And, Once again, The world distorts, Spiralling to a point and…

-

'Over and over.'

The azure titan, The god cast in steel. Is gone.

'The wheel of fortune revolves, Eternally spinning, Each rotation casting its fickle favour and each rotation taking it away.'

There is a sea, Primordial and unknown.

'Here I stand, The epicentre of fate, The one who stands above the world.'

There is a tree, Its shape is crooked and erratic, Multiple trunks coiling together and reaching the misty sky.

'I am god.'

The world is illuminated in soft crimson.

'I am the atomic, Primordial chaos that creates and destroys, Destroys to create and creates to destroy. The demon sultan who rues evil gods.'

Nestled within its wooden bosom is a device.

'But…But…It’s not enough.'

Something was clicking, Something was spinning.

'To be god…Is boring.

To stand above all things…is dull…'

With a click the disk like device opens, Both golden ends extending outward revealing rings covered in letters of an unknown language cast in gold.

'Even with her by my side eternally…This melancholy…This emptiness persists.'

The letters rotation slowed.

'Then you appeared, Azure sorcerer. You who would challenge the divine, You who would slay that which could not die, You who would smite evil with evil.

You, Who protects the weak with power that would make them think you a god.
Inconceivable.

Throwing away your humanity to challenge and enslave the dark mythos.

And then you cast your blade at me.

Indeed, That was the turning point.

That was when we first clashed, Unrelenting hatred clashed and sparked within me… Yes, I truly for the first time felt exhilarated, Excited, Satisfied.

And thus, our rivalry began.

We both died, I won, You won, I lost, You lost. You would die and reincarnate over and over, and I would face you head on every time.

I hate you, The absolute good to my absolute evil.

I love you, You who I can fight with my all and responding in kind.'

The spinning ceased; Golden letters locked within a golden rectangle that ran across the cylinder.

'Perhaps our next battle will be our last…And maybe…You will finally give it to me.'

The sky parted, Revealing a vast cosmos.

The device clicked.

The world distorted, Spiralling into an epicentre.

Spiralling, Twisting.

Collapsing.

Finally, An explosion of light consumed the world.

'The final unknown that eludes me…Peace from this endless ouroboros.'

-

“What… What the hell is this…”.

The azure titan stood upon an alien world, Its master and his grimoire gazed upon the foreign space that surrounded them.
An alien sky of an alien hue, The sky filled by two satellites that too were foreign to them. Perhaps they were moons or desolate planets caught by the worlds gravity in orbit, Snow capped mountains were visible around them alongside dark green patches of grass or what appeared to be grass.

".....This....No doubt, Is a grave".

The voice of a young girl answered.
What stood before them were countless crosses adorned by countless doppelgangers of mechanical god.....

However....

The countless copies were all ruined.

Some were missing limbs, Some held gaping holes in their chests, Some were little more than mutilated torso's. All of them dead, All of them little more than testaments to an infinite number of defeats.....All of them....

Tales.

Stories cut short at the climax.

Heroes and villains, Saints and sinners, Gods and demons.

They had all walked a kaleidoscope of paths different from the man who stood there now.

And yet....

All of them....

Left as little more than rusting legacies to an unrelenting circle of defeat.

His fist clenched.

His teeth clenched.

"I won't allow it....!".

The rage in his voice was overwhelming, While she remained silent she too was just as enraged as her master.

"This wretched wheel, I won't allow it to turn. I won't allow this blasphemous thing to continue turn!" .

The azure titan turned its burning gaze towards the alien sky, Emerald eyes glaring beyond it.

"I won't allow this damned ouroboros to continue!".

And let loose a cry of vengeance.
