Stagnation or Obliteration. the slogan that cried around every Republic city and stronghold from Earth to Pluto. We. Humanity. Had to reach for the stars, or fall flat on our faces. We would run out of material, of time eventually. even then, the Sun's eventual death would leave us without a home amongst the stars. We had to expand. and so, we did. Expedition after Expedition to some far flung star system, centuries at a time. But nothing ever came of it. They were always unsalvageable wastelands. Time after time.
Until one star shone drowsily in the sky. One we ignored, initially.
We sent our best and brightest, at the time, the best equipment, all the funding in the world.
Tarras was a star much akin to our own. Main sequence, plenty of lifespan left, and a wonderful stepping stone into the rest of the universe.

same thing as before I can't fucking write summaries dude. i dont gaf if it's a turnoff alright. if you've read my other story (bid on ace) and somehow like it, then this story has some similar stuff to it but will have more normal characters that arent straight up geeks. (unlike bid on ace) So the main character Calix (don't have a last name ig) is pretty good at fighting and has rich kid problems. this chapter he basically kills like 4 terrorists and saves his friend. give a chance maybe? I'll be able to post every 1-2 days since im also making another story.

AKA my friend got me hopelessly addicted to F1 halfway through 2025, and somehow I cooked up a mecha AU space odyssey with a sprinkle of honkai impact 3rd/HSR influences out of that experience.
This will be a long one (because I felt like every driver from that season needed a little love and spotlight in the plot), but I hope you will enjoy this insane project as much as I've been enjoying writing it. (ㅅ´ ˘ `) -

It turns out that being wired into giant war machines doesn’t play nice with human brains. The Earth Mechanical Defense Force, or EMDF, learned that the hard way when their pilots started going… neurotic, let’s say, after a few missions.
The obvious solution to that problem was to simply wire the pilot into their mecha permanently, that way their mind wasn’t being strained by the constant in and out. Unfortunately that strategy backfired and the pilots started going neurotic much, much faster, and this time they were giant and made of metal and much harder to put down.
So, the obvious next step would be to pull the plug on that idea and go back to the drawing board, right? No, that’s ridiculous, the next step was obviously to simply…
Make the mecha forget they’d ever been human in the first place.
Somewhere along the line someone should have pulled the plug, but they’d already invested so much into the project, and you know what they say about sunk cost fallacy.

Maria Armades isn't exactly 'fit' for the job of Handler, being a former Hound herself. And yet here she is, shanghaied by The Boss and her best friend to boost their merc company's combat power by rehabilitating a bunch of hounds into functional people, giving them good PR in addition to good mech pilots.
One small issue: nothing ever goes well for Maria. Her entire life is proof of this.
Come join the ride as Maria's Hounds try to discover themselves, and Maria herself tries to avoid spiraling downwards into synth-coke as a coping mechanism for the freaks she brought in. Gods only know how many more she'll recruit by the end of this.
