“Whoo! The waves look stunning today!” Athena beams as she pulls into the parking space.
Today...well, it was forecasted to be a beautiful day for the beach. It’s subjective since the skies are grey and cloudy, but as they walk out with the humid weather, Athena knows that it isn’t going to be a bad day at the beach. At least, she doesn't need to worry about sunburn.
There aren't too many families as Athena places a blanket down near the shore, propping open an umbrella and shoving it down into the ground. It’s great she doesn’t need to worry about rowdy children. Her beautiful girlfriend smiles, taking off her shawl to show her tankini. Her red polka dotted swimsuit looks great against her hair.
Juniper’s always been pretty shy about showing off herself in a swimsuit, but when Athena glances at her with widened eyes and a bright smile, some of those insecurities fade.
The women sit on the blanket, watching the waves roll into the shores as Athena grabs her picnic basket. Digging through it, she grabs a cooler and opens it, letting Juniper look in.
“What is it?” Juniper looks in to see two otter pops, a couple drinks, and a few snacks. “Oh, can I have the green otter pop?”
She hands one to Juniper as they nibble on their popsicles. The lime flavor feels great, even with the comfortable temperatures outside. Seeing the waves crash against the rocks, Juniper hums. It’s a beautiful day and the shores are calming and relaxing. Just as she needs.
“Should we go swimming?”
“Eh, maybe? It’s probably a bit too cold,” Athena frowns. “I swore the weather forecast said it would be sunny today.”
“You think they would be able to completely predict the weather nowadays without fault.” Juniper shakes her head. “Well, at the least, perhaps we can walk in the water on the shoreline?”
“Oh!” Athena seems amused by that idea. “Yeah, we can get our feet wet and everything! That’ll be fun and we won’t freeze to death!”
Athena stands up, offering her hand to her partner as she helps Juniper up. Holding each other’s hands, the two women let their feet slowly sink into the shore as they explore the beach. It doesn’t seem as if there’s too many shells out and about, but there’s a lot of gulls looking for their next meal.
“Aww, I should have brought food,” Athena frowns, “I could have brought the seagulls over to you. No, even better, we could have pet them!”
“I’m pretty sure they would have fled before you caught one.” Juniper chuckles, observing the birds eating some fish in between the sand. “I don’t think we could even feed them all. I heard they have bottomless stomachs.”
“Yeah, they probably do.” Athena pouts. “Aww, it doesn’t seem like there’s too much here today. Damn, this was supposed to be a more eventful day than this.”
“What of it? The shores are beautiful, the weather is nice, and there’s not a lot of people here.” Juniper smiles. “I know you had a lot of plans, but just having this peaceful moment in our chaotic lives is just wonderful. I really just like being near you, regardless if our adventures are minimal.”
Athena’s pout raises to a smile. “Yeah, it’s kinda nice to not wear my earplugs here. Y’know, maybe we should get lunch around here and see if the weather clears up!”
The first drop hits Juniper’s head as she sighs. “About that...I think it’s raining.”
“Yeah, I felt a few drops just now.” Athena looks up at the sky, her smile a frown again. “The clouds are getting darker, too. I think it’s gonna pour. It’s just not a beach day.”
“I’m afraid not. At least I won’t need to water the crops tomorrow.” Juniper smiles. “Well, you mentioned lunch. Where should we go?”
“Uh...you know anything around here?”
“I don’t, but I think it wouldn’t hurt to look around. I’m in the mood for some salad. What about you?”
“Oh, let’s just go to a salad and sandwich place, then!”
Athena walks to their picnic basket, picking it up and starting to shove the other things they brought. After they load up the car with their gear, Athena sighs as they begin to get back on the road.
“Hey,” Juniper smiles. “I had a wonderful time. Let’s just make the best of the rest of the day, okay?”
“Okay.” Athena smiles, “Thanks, Junie!”
