Mother Nature

Summary:

where Felix is the guardian of nature (to what people know him as "mother nature") and Hyunjin is just a prince who needed a break from royalty

I think it's a bit badly written but I hope you like it <3

Work Text:

When you think of “Mother Nature” as a kid, you imagine a pretty lady growing plants in the forest but it’s all a myth.

Well...you’re wrong.

Mother Nature is real but…

He’s not a female.

Is he a god? No. Is he an angel? Personality-wise.

The boy only knows that he’s a fairy, a guardian of nature. He has the power to control life and almost anything he wants. But don’t worry, one crucial mistake, he will be punished by the gods and a new one is sent. For many previous guardians, life as a guardian was tedious.

Yet, here he was.

Felix smiles as he watches the clouds float around the clear, blue sky. It soon disappears as he hears rustling from the bushes and looks over to see Jisung.

“Jisung, don't scare me like that! I thought you were a human!” Felix placed his hand on his chest to calm his heart. Jisung rolls his eyes at his friend as he turns back into a human, “well technically I am .” Felix smiles apologetically, “I panicked, okay? I’m sure past guardians like me wouldn’t have taken you easily like I did, you squirrel. Just be grateful that you can shapeshift.”

Jisung smiles and hugs Felix, “Ah yes, I have news about Prince Hyunjin.” Felix immediately smiles by hearing Hyunjin’s name. The squirrel laughs as mutters ‘whipped’ between his laughs.

The guardian huffs, “Don’t laugh! Yeah, I may have a crush on Prince Hyunjin but that’s nothing to laugh about. Anyways, what about him?”

“Oh, he and his father argued because Hyunjin doesn’t want to be King. His father was telling him to be grateful and yadda yadda- I didn’t want to hear the whole argument so I left. They’re going to set up a ceremony as soon as he turns 20,” Jisung states in just one breath. Felix is surely not surprised since the older did wants to be a rapper in the future.

“I see...sorry I have to make you stalk Prince Hyunjin for me.”

“It’s fine! At least I get the chance to stare at Hyunjin’s bodyguard,” Felix smirks.

“And you tell me I’m whipped.” Jisung whines and hits the laughing guardian on the arm. Once Felix calms himself down he suggests that they should go visit the village. With Jisung agreeing, he makes his pretty, yellow wings disappear.

Hyunjin angrily slams the door of his bedroom close and plops down on his bed. Being the prince of the South is driving him nuts - that reminds him of that stupid squirrel that watches him through the window - and now his father is telling him he’s going to be king…

Don't get him wrong, he cares deeply about his people. He enjoys it when people greet him with a friendly smile or place delicate flowers in his hair.

But being royalty can be tough. Hyunjin often wishes he wasn't born as one. He wants to roam around the town without bodyguards trying to follow him wherever he goes or receiving threats to go to war from enemies. And now that he's turning into a king, there's no way he's getting out of this situation.

Why can't he be normal?

A knock soon dragged Hyunjin out of his thoughts and looked up to see Changbin, his personal bodyguard and best friend. Not forgetting to bow, he headed over to the blonde’s bed and sat near him, “Hello, your highness, I just came here to check up on you.”

“Hyung, I told you not to call me that when we’re alone,” Hyunjin whined playfully. “15 years of friendship and you’re still like this.”

It’s true, Changbin was first introduced to Hyunjin as soon as the younger turned 4 and they immediately clicked. It was like he was destined to protect the prince just like his father protected the royal family.

“Sorry, but you know I have to give my respects to the royal family,” Changbin half-heartedly stated. Hyunjin gave him a bored expression before standing up. “Let’s head out, this room is suffocating and I could surely use a break.”

“Jisung, wait up! Where are we even going?” The pair have been walking for almost 30 minutes and Felix was starting to get tired. They arrived at the village around 10 minutes ago but Jisung wanted to go to Universe Café, saying that it’s well-known for its cheesecakes. Now, Felix questions why he even agreed to this in the first place.

“Have patience. Maybe if you weren’t flying all the time, you would have good stamina,” Jisung argued. Felix rolled his eyes until they came to a halt. “This is it, welcome to paradise.”

The café was smaller than he thought. His thoughts were quickly shut down as soon as he stepped inside. The aroma of this place was indeed pleasing to your senses, giving you a familiar warmth of home. The place was decorated with small flowers and plants hanging on the wooden walls. On his right, there sits a fireplace, keeping the shop nice and cozy.

“Hello, welcome to Univ- oh it’s you...” The boy immediately frowns as he spotted the duo. “Hey, Jeongin, how have you and Seungmin been?” Jisung nervously greets. Jeongin sighs, “I’m okay but Seungmin went to the East Village where his parents live. Seungmin’s sister is sick so he had to go on such short notice. I’m in charge for now.”

Felix heads to the fireplace and waits for Jisung to finish whatever he’s doing. He looks to his left and sees a little girl, probably around 10 years of age, staring at him. He shyly waves, making the girl blush but wave at him back. However, she gets closer to him and gives him a sunflower.

That surprised the boy. He stares at the flower and looks back at the girl, “Thank you but are you sure you don’t want it?” The girl quickly shook her head, “I was going to give it to Prince Hyunjin but you remind me of this flower. It looked so lonely yet it grew up very pretty, so you keep it.” Felix thanked the girl again before she ran off to her mother.

Felix flinched as he felt a hand land on his shoulder. “Jisung! I swear I will feed you to the wolves if you don’t stop scaring me!” Jisung put his hands up in defeat, “I was just gonna ask if you wanna head somewhere else. I got my cheesecake already.” Felix apologized and they started walking back home- well, the forest.

“How come Jeongin looked annoyed to see you?” he questions. Jisung laughs as he scratches his nape, “It’s probably because I go there almost every day when I finish spying on the prince...or maybe because I bother him every time I go there, I guess.

“Yeah, I would feel the same way.” Felix nonchalantly replied.

“Hey!”

Feliz shouldn’t have laughed and run away because the next thing he knew, he’s laying on the floor...with a man on top of him. He looks up at the man and freezes.

‘What is he doing here?’

Hyunjin quickly gets off the fairy and bows a few times, “I’m so sorry, I should’ve looked where I was going. Here let me help you up!” He extends his hand for Felix to grab.

Felix’s face flushes red as he grabs Hyunjin’s hand and gets up,  “Y-your highness! Please don’t apologize, I was the one running around! I’m very sorry.”

Hyunjin looks up and stares at the male in front of him in shock. He has never seen a man as pretty as Felix. His blonde hair complimented his sun-kissed freckles and attire.

Oh, how he would like to peck those cheeks so badly.

He looks away out of embarrassment when he notices he was staring for too long and then at Changbin and Jisung, who are witnessing the scene from 7 feet away.

“Sorry, but I need to go back to the palace. May I ask what your name is?” Hyunjin shyly asks.

“It’s Felix.”

“Well Felix, I look forward to seeing you soon. Good day. Changbin, let’s go.” The older nod and they make their way to the castle.

If you look from Binsung’s point of view, you could easily tell they’re already whipped for each other at first sight. As cheesy as it sounds, it’s true, Hyunjin immediately has heart eyes for Felix, and Felix was already whipped since he saw the male a year ago when he was walking around the village with Jisung.

Remember how Hyunjin always smiles at his people? Little did he know Felix was one of them as well.

“So what was that about?” Changbin looks at Hyunjin as they roam around the forest on their horses. Hyunjin slightly blushes, refusing to meet Changbin’s eyes. “I just ran into him, it would’ve been rude if I didn’t apologize.”

The older rolled his eyes, “you know exactly what I mean. You just met this guy and you already look like you fell in love.” Hyunjin’s face turns redder as he scratches his nape a little, “he’s kinda cute though…”

“He is,” Changbin agrees before pausing. “But I find his friend cuter. Did you see those cute cheeks? I swear I’m proposing to him the next time I see him.”

Hyunjin’s jaw slightly drops and his eyes widen a little. Even during all those years of friendship, Changbin has never talked about his crushes nor his sexuality, so this new information definitely caught Hyunjin off-guard.

“You know, out of all people, I thought you were going to fall for Minho hyung,” Hyunjin teases, laughing when Changbin slightly choked on his saliva. “No way! I mean, no disrespect to King Minho but he’s too elegant for my taste and I’m not looking forward to ruling part of a country.”

Hyunjin just laughs, though he does think Changbin has a point there. Ruling a country is not as cool and easy as you think. Apart from looking pretty and letting people do things for him, he has to train, work on documents, decide on laws, and much more stuff that Hyunjin refuses to bring up.

Hyunjin looks up at the sky and realizes that he needed to meet up with his father for the ceremony meeting three minutes ago. Changbin immediately got the signal before they both rode back to the palace

The day when Hyunjin finally turns 20 and is crowned as king came a little too quickly.

Coronation just ended and now the guests are moving to the ballroom. Hyunjin is just there, on his throne, looking at his father with a bored expression, while stating how proud he is to have a son like him.

Hyunjin couldn’t care any less. His father was only interested in Hyunjin being the next ruler of the Southside of Korea.

“You Hyunjin, it’s been a while!” Hyunjin and his father look over to see Minho.

Minho is Hyunjin’s childhood friend, only 2 years older than him. The Hwang family had a strong friendship with the Lee family until Minho’s parents died on a ship when he was just 17, making him the new king of the Eastside of Korea.

“King Minho, how are you son? I can see how great your kingdom is going under your supervision,” Hyunjin’s father grins. Minho politely smiles back, “It’s an honor hearing it from you, King Hyunjae. I hope you don’t mind but I’m going to borrow Hyunjin for a while.”

Hyunjin mouths a smile ‘thank you’ before excusing himself and follows Minho. “Thanks, I was dying out of boredom hearing my father talk.” Minho laughs, slightly arching his back, “I still remember how you always told me how much you hated your father. Hey, at least you’re a king now. This kingdom is yours now and he can’t do anything about it.”

“You’re right but that means more work,” Hyunjin sighs. “By the way, how’s Chan hyung?” Minho looks around and then points at the older male talking to Changbin near the wine area.

Hyunjin slightly nods to himself before looking around the area. His eyes land on a familiar blonde sitting on a table next to-

‘Wait, isn’t that Jisung? Does that mean…?”

Hyunjin looks over at Minho and tells him that he had to do something. Minho looks at the younger weirdly. He follows Hyunjin’s gaze before nodding and patting his back, and leaving.

Hyunjin quickly walks over to the duo’s table. He softly taps the blonde’s shoulder, scaring the boy in the process. The blonde, or should I say, Felix, looks up and widely grins, “King Hyunjin! Congratulations!”

“Thank you, I’m happy to hear it from you,” Hyunjin shows his cute eye smile, making Felix lightly blush.

Jisung looks at the two distracted boys as an idea pops into his head. He runs over to the group playing all the classical music and quietly asks them to play a slow song. Luckily, they agreed and Jisung ran back to their table. Felix eyes Jisung in confusion after the boy winked.

Hyunjin and Felix’s ears perk up at the melody and watch men and women walk over to the center with their partners. Hyunjin spotted Minho dancing with his guard, Chan, and Changbin coming over to ask Jisung for a dance. He then looks over to Felix, who was already staring at him.

Hyunjin clears his throat before bowing and lifts his right hand, “Felix, may I have this dance?”

“Wow, such a charmer. I, Lee Felix, would be honored to have this dance with the newly crowned king,” Felix teases and places his hand on Hyunjin’s. The two walk over to the crowd and face each other.

“Um, Hyunjin…I’ve never danced before…”

“It’s okay, I’ll teach you.” Hyunjin guides Felix’s arms over his shoulders while he grabs his waist. They sway side to side to the rhythm, smiles never leaving their faces.

It’s as if the world froze and it’s just the two of them. Felix has had a huge crush on Hyunjin for a while but Hyunjin, on the other hand, just met this gorgeous male and he knows he never wants to let go.

Hyunjin leans closer to Felix’s lips. He’s very aware of what he’s doing. Felix refused to pull away, he knows he wants this as much as Hyunjin did. So the older took this as a signal to close the gap between them.

The kiss was long and sweet, both showing the love they have for the other until they pull away and lean their foreheads together. They giggle before Hyunjin whispers, “Lix, I know we only met around a week or two but I think I’m in love with you.”

“I’m in love with you too.” Felix then frowns and pulls away. “The thing is...Hyunjin...you might not believe me but I’m a guardian fairy.”

Hyunjin’s eyes widen but then laughs, “To be honest, I’m not even surprised. My mother used to tell me that fairies do exist and that they’re the most beautiful creatures anyone could find. Now, I can tell her that I found one and made him mine.”

Felix lets out a sigh of relief he didn't realize he'd been holding in and warmly embraces Hyunjin.

“Thank you.”
