Chapter Text
So, Yoongi, Namjoon's best friend with a weird genius mind, has convinced Namjoon to buy one of those robots to cope with his loneliness (Namjoon argued he still has the others but Yoongi insisted). Androids, people call them. The robots are very human-like and have a purpose to be some sort of companion as well as someone who takes care of the house. Namjoon has been eyeing them for some time now, but never decided to buy one—until now, that is.
The email said it will arrive around 4 p.m. today so he's been waiting, waiting anxiously since the email was sent to him.
So about three hours, he's been waiting for 3 hours, just pacing around his flat, waiting for his doorbell to ring and quickly grab the package because he's embarrassed to buy this robot thingy. He doesn't know why.
He doesn't know what the thing looks like nor its "gender" (Not that he cares much). He asked someone to buy it for him, like how a lot of people do, and he didn't know that there was some sort of an auction going on and he didn't expect the guy would buy from the auction. He thought the guy was going to buy from the website, where the price was already listed and he was sure he had more than enough money to buy it. But since the guy unexpectedly bought it from an auction, of course it was far more expensive. The guy said the android was one of a kind and he was sure Namjoon would love it.
Namjoon couldn't do anything but just transfer the money with a heavy sigh, he's glad he set a budget earlier just in case or he would've been broke now. The guy better get something good or else Namjoon would snap. The guy's excuse was he'd know how the android looked before buying, unlike if you buy it from the website, where the units will be selected randomly and not many people are lucky enough to get good looking ones.
Still, that's no excuse to spend around twenty-five percent more than the original price which was already very pricey.
If he thinks about this again, he hasn't really thought of it thoroughly. Where will the thing sleep? Does it need sleep?? No, no, it's recharged, so where will he charge it?? Will the guest room be the thing's room?? Does it need its own room?? Or what will the thing do when he's not at home? What will it do when Namjoon is just relaxing? Will it just… mind their own business and watch? Or will it join him? Like for example, when he's watching a movie, will it join him? What if he's not home and the thing's battery dies? Will it be able to charge itself?
Okay, the last one was a stupid question considering how far technology has advanced. But no one can answer the other questions.
"Ah, yes! Jackson!" He snaps his fingers before grabbing his phone and unlocking it. He opened Kakaotalk and clicked on Jackson's chat.

"Dammit." He cursed under his breath after five minutes of no reply.
The doorbell rang. Great.
"Jackson, fuck you." He exclaims before shouting something so the man at the door would wait as he opened it. He scrambles to open it despite being near the door. His hands just won't cooperate with how he's trembling.
And as he imagined earlier, he quickly grabbed the package (he didn't expect the weight), said thank you, and slammed the door. His heart is beating so fast that it feels impossible to think.
He leans on the door while placing a hand above his heart. It's only a damn robot, why is he so nervous and scared of everyone finding out he has one? He knows that there are maybe two or three people in the building who also have one so he's not the only one.
That thought calmed him down a bit for some reason, knowing that he's not alone and soon, he will surely not be alone.
He stares at the package next to him. It has a special unit and a fragile text in bold fonts along with an arrow printed on it so he knows where the top and bottom are. He's proud he didn't put the thing upside down despite getting shocked with how much it weighs. It's about the same as how much a real person would weigh. He guesses the thing weighs more or less like Hoseok.
He pushes the box towards the living room, careful as to not make it fall over, and carefully lies the box down. He ponders with what he should open it with. A knife? Will that be fine? As long as he doesn't push it too deep it won't damage the thing inside, right? His goal is to cut the tape, not the robot.
He goes to the kitchen and grabs a small kitchen knife. He took a deep breath before carefully cutting the tape, his heart stopped beating for a second when the knife he pushed too deep but thankfully, he didn't feel it breaking or making any contact with the robot inside.
Once he opened the box, wow, is… is this really a robot and not the son of Aphrodite? Because seriously, he's fucking beautiful. So breathtaking in the literal sense because Namjoon feels himself getting lightheaded due to forgetting to breathe.
The perfectly thick brows, the eyelashes, the nose, and most importantly, the lips. They're so plump and in the perfect shade of red that Namjoon again wonders, is this really not the son of Aphrodite herself? That's impossible.
He reached out a hand to touch the android's skin. It looks so smooth and very tempting to touch. So pale and clean and his hand itches to not touch though he hesitates for a moment.
"Fuck!" He shouts once his hand touches the android's face. It feels real. The skin feels real and not prosthetic-like. The skin is cold though so it feels like touching a dead body. And if you look closer, you could see little pores on the skin so it's very detailed. Namjoon gives applause to whoever made the skin because it's so detailed.
There's an expensive looking envelope placed in the middle of the box, on top of where the android's body should be. The body of the thing is covered by styrofoam pieces so he hasn't seen how it is yet. But he could see his shoulders and they're so wide! The shoulders reach from one side of the box to another. It almost looks like it's cramped. Gosh, he hopes the robot isn't naked because that would be a bad first impression.
Wait, why does he care? It's a damn robot!
"Does… does the robot have…" He gulps and can't help but look at where it is supposed to be, still covered in styrofoam pieces, luckily.
"Bad, Namjoon!" He reminds himself with a slap on his face. He chose to grab the expensive looking envelope, it feels so… premium that he feels like the envelope isn't meant for him. He wasn't that surprised when the thing contained an ownership certificate that also looked and felt very classy.
He then placed the certificate on the coffee table and chose to get the little book that was slipped on the edge of the box above the robot's head. It's a manual book and the useful page is only the first page where it shows how to charge the thing and how to… program it? It doesn't write like that but there's a QR code to download an app.
"Interesting…" He says mindlessly before digging further into the box to find the charger. It looks like a USB type C charger and he thinks, how the heck is this going to charge a human-sized robot?! Well… it is fast charging but… it's just wow, he doesn't know. The manual says it takes about… four to five hours to fully charge the thing and the battery could last for two to three days depending on the energy consumption, like how a human works. Technology is weird and fascinating at the same time.
The charging port is somewhere hidden in the back of the head—just a bit above the nape, okay, at least the company was considerate enough to hide it. But that means it makes the robot more human-like and it's hard to spot one amongst real humans… Now he wonders how many robots he's encountered in everyday life without knowing.
He chooses to download the app first, just to see what it's like. The first thing it shows when it's opened is, of course, the policies of the app and Namjoon just click accept without thinking like how a majority of people do.
"Scan the fingerprint of the Android to register," He reads the text aloud to himself, "Huh? It has a fingerprint?" He wonders and searches for the Android's hand and examines the tip of the fingers and yes, all five of the fingers have fingerprints which freaks Namjoon out a bit. It's so realistic! Everything about the thing is! There are even the lines on the palm and veins! No body hair though. Was it for visual purposes or…?
"Focus!" He reminded himself again and picked up his phone. The screen said any finger will do fine so he used the easiest one, the Android's thumb.
His phone vibrates when it's done scanning. Information about the robot being loaded up and displayed and it just blows Namjoon's mind away with how cool it is.

"Uh… okay, this is new and holy fuck." He said to himself while clicking on the picture. That's got to be an angel or whatever shit in the world there is. He… he looks so soft and pretty. Is it possible for someone to be this handsome and pretty at the same time?
He looks back at the unconscious robot, he looks the same as the one in the picture. He still looks so soft and gentle. He looks peaceful with all of his face muscles fully relaxed.
Looking back at his phone, the battery is already half full so, why not? The android is already fully clothed with a basic black t-shirt and pants that he can't identify yet so why not?
His finger hovers over the activate button on the bottom of the page. Is this a bad idea? And if it is, how is it a bad idea? It's not like the thing would just wake up and start stabbing him—but for safety reasons, he hides the knife behind him. If he does get hurt or die, he's fully blaming it on Yoongi.
"Activate in three, two, one!" He can't help but squeak once his thumb makes contact with the screen. His eyes are wide open, staring at the robot in the box warily. Nothing is happening— o– oh!! it's moving!!
Namjoon gasps in amazement as he watches the android's nose scrunching and unscrunching before the robot opens its eyes. It's… magnificent.
"Fucking beautiful…" He said under his breath in a stunned way. The robot's movement is so elegant and gentle. Just the way he's sitting up is making Namjoon's mouth agape.
"Excuse me…?" The robot said which made Namjoon jump a little. His tone isn't exactly what Namjoon imagined, especially for a new robot. He was expecting, well, a robotic tone.
He heard that the birthday of the androids is also the creation date. So calculating from when the company started making robots—which is last year that means the android isn't even a year old yet and considering that he's unit 613 out of all of the units made worldwide, that means he's newly made.
Technology sure is fascinating.
"Uh–um y– yeah. Sorry." He clears his throat. Why is he apologizing? It's a damn robot!
"You are…?" Oh, Namjoon wasn't expecting that. Does the robot usually ask first?
Ah, it must've been programmed like that! The goal of androids is to be as natural as possible so they probably programmed it to be like the first time meeting someone! That's cool!
"I'm Kim Namjoon! Your owner!" He says excitedly. He feels like a kid meeting Santa for the first time. But somehow the term owner doesn't feel right to him. "You don't have to think of me as an owner. I– I mean I did buy you and– no, that sounds wrong and horrible. I mean– I… I am the one that bought you and I suppose I should fill in my name as your owner but you don't have to think of me as your owner. You can think of me as your… friend or housemate and—oh fuck I'm rambling, aren't I?" He groans and slaps himself, physically. He feels like he wants the earth to eat him. He can't even interact with a robot, can he?
He looked up when he heard a giggle and oh boy, he wasn't ready to see the android in front of him smile and giggle ever so elegantly. The robot giggles while covering his mouth with one of his hands and his eyes turning into crescents beautifully. Namjoon could still see how his lips beautifully stretch even when it's covered by his hand and it's… it's just so damn pretty like— how?? He's never seen someone this beautiful! He's not a person anyways!
"It's okay," The robot said with a giggle, "Nice to meet you, Namjoon-ssi. I'm Kim Seokjin." Huh?
Is… is that supposed to happen? Shouldn't… shouldn't he be the one naming the robot…?
To say that Namjoon was dumbfounded and confused was an understatement because is that supposed to happen?? The app said please enter name so he's the one who should be naming the android… right?
"Uh… Kim… Seok… jin…?" He drags every syllable in a confused tone and he sees the robot in front of him nod.
"Yes, that's what I said. Nice to meet you, Namjoon-ssi." The android—Seokjin smiles and extends his hand for Namjoon to shake.
"N– nice to meet you too, Seokjin-ssi." He said unsurely and shook the other's hand.
What the fuck is going on right now?
Is this supposed to happen?
Is he in danger?
Should he be concerned?
Should he call the police or the company's service line? Wait, it doesn't have a service line, only an email support. Fuck.
He flinched when Seokjin stood up to get out of the box, groaning a that's better as he stretched. The movements look so natural and not robotic like he expects them to be. Pieces of styrofoam fall from him as he moves. He sat down again outside the box, on the floor and started picking up the styrofoam to place them back inside the box.
Yeah, he thinks he should be concerned.
"C– can I… can I make a call? I remember leaving something in my studio and it's important so I'm going to make sure my friend saves it." He lies and awkwardly gets up once he sees Seokjin nod with a smile. He immediately sprints to his room and quickly dials a number in panic.
"Hey Joo–"
"Jackson! What the fuck have you been doing all this time not answering my text?? Such betrayal!" He shouts angrily in a volume where Seokjin can't hear.
"I wa–"
"Don't care. Okay so I bought that android thingy and because you're the only one I know who has one of those I wanted to ask you shit but you didn't answer so it's too late for any bullshit now," He inhales deeply before huffing it out, "But anyways is the thing supposed to name itself or should I be concerned?" He heard a lot of rustling from the other line and he should've felt bad for disturbing his friend but he couldn't care less if it was for knowing if his life was endangered or not.
"It gotta have a name, you idiot. I'm really busy right now so sorry but talk to you later! Bye!"
"But–" The call was hung up before he could protest. He tried to call again but it got hung up.
He feels bad now.
He sighs and slides down the door. He needs to stay calm and think. Jackson said it's got to have a name so it's normal? He didn't say if he's the one who should be giving the name, right? And the app said please enter name because maybe it's for when the owner doesn't like the android's given name.
"Yeah! That's it!" His energy returned and he smiled. He panicked for nothing, "Oh silly, Joon." He chuckles to himself before getting up and getting out of his room.
Seokjin was sitting in the same spot as before. He was looking around the room with curious eyes and Namjoon could tell that Seokjin is well behaved because he isn't going through stuff without permission. He looks cute with his curious doe eyes eyeing everything in sight. He even flinched in surprise and smiled when he saw Namjoon.
"So, did your friend save what you left?" Seokjin asked in a curious yet playful tone and it just made Namjoon's heart swell.
"Yeah. I… it was some song demo files I came up with before I left. I was in a hurry and left it unsaved." He lies sheepishly while scratching the back of his neck. If it were Yoongi or Hoseok, they would've immediately known he was lying. Thankfully Seokjin doesn't.
"Oh, that could've been bad!" The robot exclaims with a frown, "But a song demo? Do you make music?" Those doe eyes are back on display and Namjoon wants to squeal seeing them. Till now he thought only Jungkook had those damaging Bambi eyes but he has been proven wrong.
"Uh-huh. I'm a producer. I use the name RM so people might not know who Kim Namjoon is." He says shyly, he doesn't really introduce his stage name often and he always gets shy about it.
"I bet you're a good producer! I want to hear your songs!" Seokjin says excitedly, fist balling up as he smiles.
"You… you can't immediately connect with the internet and like hear… it?" Namjoon asks bluntly and regrets asking it. It's so rude of him to ask that and with that kind of tone.
How many more times is he going to embarrass himself in front of his new housemate? He hopes Seokjin isn't the type to tease him about it.
Seokjin shakes his head with a smile. Namjoon is glad he isn't offended, "Nope. I think we haven't reached that milestone yet. But I'm sure someday we will! For now, I'm only a companion and I can't access the internet." It's a bit reassuring to hear Seokjin use robotic words. Maybe he isn't weird after all. Maybe it's just Namjoon that's overeating. Seokjin kind of reminds him of Baymax, actually.
He stands there awkwardly, looking at anything but Seokjin who was still curiously looking around the room. It's really cute how he looks at the pictures Namjoon has with such awe in his eyes.
"Can you give me a house tour?" Seokjin suddenly asks and that's such a straight punch for Namjoon in the gut. How did he not think of that?!
"Ah, shit– yeah. I forgot, sorry." He says sheepishly while hitting his own head. He hears Seokjin giggle and when he looks up, the android is already standing and looking at him while giggling.
"You cuss a lot." Seokjin comments with a laugh.
So pretty, is all that Namjoon's brain is saying. He's star-struck and he knows it. He's so lucky to get such a pretty android. He better thank the guy who bought it later.
"Yeah, I guess. Blame it on Yoongi hyung—my best friend. To be honest he cusses more than I do." He could feel himself blushing a bit with the attention he's receiving.
"Is that him?" The android points at a small picture frame near the TV. It's a picture of him, Yoongi and Hoseok years ago when they got hired at the entertainment company they're working at now. Reminds him that he's already printed a photo of the six of them and hasn't framed it yet. He's going to put it next to this photo.
"Yeah. The other one there is Hoseok, also my friend. They're far more good-looking now," He laughs, "We all are. I think it's thanks to Taehyung and Jimin, also my friends. I think Jungkook also played a big role in stopping those two from being impatient with us." He can't help but remember the time when the devilish duo told them to glow up. He should be grateful or now he'd have no fashion sense and will probably look ten years older than he really is.
"You sound fond. You must care about them a lot." Seokjin points out with a warm smile. But somehow, it also looks a bit sad.
"I do, I guess. They're the ones who were always there for me. Especially Yoongi and Hoseok. We've been friends for a really really long time." He empathizes his words to tell how long they've been friends. Eleven years might not be much for people, but the eleven years he, Yoongi, and Hoseok have spent are very meaningful, "So, house tour?" He turns to the android with a smile which Seokjin returns excitedly.
.

.
.
"Seokjin-ssi!" Namjoon calls from his door and the robot walks towards him, "Which one do you prefer?" He holds up the two sets of pajamas for Seokjin to see. He hopes the pajamas fit Seokjin's board shoulders. Seokjin is smaller than him but their widths are almost the same.
"I like this one better!" He points at the striped pink and white one and Namjoon can't help but giggle.
"You seem to like pink." The human said while handing the set of clothes to Seokjin. He didn't expect him to nod.
"I like pink. It makes me look soft and it's just pretty in general." Seokjin says shyly and Namjoon can't help but agree silently.
Yeah, the image of Seokjin in pink just suits him very well.
"I think pink suits you well, Seokjin-ssi." He smiles, "Go ahead and change. I won't peek." He assures though he is curious if Seokjin has a… you know. But he will wait till another day to find out. Or maybe he won't find out at all. He's fine with that too.
Seokjin also laughed a little, "I won't take long. I promise." He turns towards the door but stops his steps with a little gasp, "Don't call me Seokjin-ssi all the time! It's so formal!" He pouts and looks at Namjoon with puppy eyes. Are those necessary?
"Then what should I call you?" Seokjin ponders for a moment, eyebrows knit together as he thinks. Namjoon wonders how it feels to have the brain of an android. Is it the same as a human brain?
"Oh, I know!" The robot snaps its fingers before looking up to Namjoon who is a bit taller than him, "How old are you?" It took Namjoon aback.
"I'm twenty-four now. Why?" Was Seokjin about to make fun of his age? Telling him how he's too old to be single like how his mother and aunts always do?
"You're younger than me! I'm twenty-seven this year!" Seokjin said while jumping a bit with excitement.
Namjoon's confused.
First the name, and now age?
He's concerned. Should he not be?
"I— how?" He asked, mostly to himself but Seokjin could definitely hear it.
"I'm born in nineteen-ninety-two." The robot rolls his eyes while crossing his arms.
"No yes I know, I can count but like– your birthday—you were made in December so you're aren't even a year old yet!"
Seokjin's expression flattens and Namjoon is afraid he might have said something wrong and Seokjin is going kill mode but, "Do I look like I'm a baby?"
"Well, ye— I mean no! But–"
"Then that's it. I'm twenty-six."
"But–"
"Did I shutter?" Namjoon's mouth hangs open at a loss of words, "I know I'm old and you don't have to rub your youth in my face, Joon-ah. Call me Hyung, then." He huffs proudly and turns towards the bedroom, closing the door at Namjoon who was still stunned.
The heck just happened?
He's scared alright.

Hey
Is the Android supposed to be so sassy?

Okay, so it's normal. It's all good then.
"Wow, I keep getting scared over nothing." Namjoon chuckles to himself though he sounds unsure. Maybe he's just too wary of this robot idea. Just give it some time and he'll be fine.
A few minutes later Seokjin comes out of the room. Namjoon was making some tea in the kitchen so Seokjin was a bit disappointed that he had to walk over to the kitchen. He was hoping Namjoon would wait by the door. He didn't even take that long.
"Oh, hey. I was just making some tea to help me sleep," The dimpled man said while placing the spoon he used to stir into the sink before turning towards Seokjin, "So, how're the clothes, Seokjin-ssi?" He asked while leaning back to the counter.
"It's nice," The android simply answered but he noticed something, "Call me hyung." He demanded with a little pout that made Namjoon gulp nervously.
"Sorry. Does it fit, hyung…?" The last part sounded very hesitant but it made Seokjin smile nonetheless. The shine in his eyes returned.
"Yep! It fits perfectly well though it's a bit too long for me. But the shoulder area is fine. I know you were worrying about it a lot, right?" There's a hint of playfulness in his voice that just makes Namjoon blush.
They moved into the living room after standing awkwardly in the kitchen for some time. Namjoon isn't sleepy yet so he turns the TV on. He tries to tune Seokjin out, he didn't expect him to join.
Well, what was he supposed to do? Stupid Joon. He scolds himself and gulps once he feels the sofa dip when Seokjin sits down. There's a respectable distance between them but Namjoon, as someone who has been single and alone at home for a long time, is having an internal crisis right now.
"What's this movie about?" Seokjin broke the silence between them since it was getting really uncomfortable.
"I… I don't know. I've never watched it before." He says in a sorry tone.
Seokjin made a sound of exclamation, "Aren't you going to sleep? It's," He searched for the clock hanging above on the wall behind him, "It's almost ten p.m." He turns to the human with a questioning look.
"I'm not that sleepy yet." Namjoon scratches the back of his head.
"But it's not good to stay up till late." The android said with a worried tone and frown. Namjoon can't help but chuckle a little at Seokjin worrying. No one really cared if he stays up late or whatever but now, there's someone who does.
"Yeah, I know," He sighed with a sad smile, "I have terrible insomnia so it's quite normal, I guess. But usually, I would sleep in, and because I'm a producer, I don't really have a set time to go to the studio," He paused, "That is if there's no meetings or appointments." He grins shyly, not used to telling about himself to other people.
"Ah, is that so?" Namjoon nods, "I mean at least you kinda still get enough sleep—most of the time," The human nods again, "But still, isn't it good to try to sleep a bit earlier?" He could feel Seokjin staring at him and it's making him blush. Good thing the only light source in the room is the TV so Seokjin can't see the shade of his face right now.
"I'm trying. I've been trying for what? Like a year or more maybe but it just never works. I've been trying sleep remedies including this tea Jimin recommended. But it doesn't seem to be working though." He pouts. He feels disappointed in himself because he's unable to accomplish such a simple task. Just as much as having a normal sleep schedule it's been taking him more than a year.
Pathetic, he says to himself.
"Maybe… maybe it's because your life itself is messy…?" The human snapped his head towards Seokjin, "No offense but your daily activities can affect your sleep too. What or when you eat, what you do and all. It affects." The android said with unsure eyes.
But maybe he does have a point. Namjoon often lost himself in his work and thoughts till who knows when and of course, he doesn't have a proper eating schedule.
Maybe getting his whole life together is the key.
"I think you're right." Namjoon said while looking up to see Seokjin smiling proudly. Gosh, how cuter can he be?
"So, let's start tomorrow then!" The android cheers and he looks genuinely happy, "Wait, no! Let's start now! So, shoo! Go sleep!" He made shooing gestures that triggered a laugh out of Namjoon.
"Alright," The human said and grabbed his phone, "Your battery is on twenty-six percent. Can you charge by yourself?" Seokjin nods obediently with a smile, "Is it okay if you uh… 'sleep' in the guest room? Ah, shit the bed hasn't been ma–"
"Nope! I'm fine with sleeping there! You've given me the sheets, pillows, blankets and all, and I could do it by myself. It's okay, go sleep first.!" Seokjin smiles again and okay, Namjoon has come to the conclusion that he just smiles a lot.
He stood up, still looking at Seokjin with a worried expression. He wanted to ask again, but, "Go! Stop worrying about me!" Seokjin shoos playfully and Namjoon can't help but laugh and heads to his room.
Well, a lot happened today and he's still a bit concerned. But if his friend says it's okay then… maybe it is okay…? Still though, should Seokjin name himself like that? Or has Seokjin been bought and used before so he already has a name and all?
Oh speaking of names, he should fill in the information on the app.
"Seokjin-ah, I hope we can get along well." He said with a smile as he typed in his and Seokjin's name. It's a blessing their family name is the same. He can't help but stare at the picture, Seokjin surely is handsome and pretty at the same time. He's really lucky to get such an android. He seems nice too and has that motherly aura around him. Namjoon guesses that he'll be in good hands.
Seokjin is someone perfect for him, he thinks. They're not that awkward around each other though it hasn't even been a day yet. They pretty much have everything sorted out now. Seokjin has bought clothes online earlier, he has a room, knows how Namjoon works so yeah, everything is perfect.
The door knocked, causing Namjoon to jump. He muttered a fuck that scared me before telling the one outside, which he's guessing is Seokjin to come in.
"Sorry, I just wanted to ask something. What time are you going to wake up tomorrow?" He looks and sounds apologetic, he must've figured out Namjoon's heavy breathing.
"U–uh… wait let me check," He unlocks his phone and looks at his calendar to see that he has a meeting tomorrow at 10 a.m. Great, "I have a meeting tomorrow so… maybe around nine?" He sounds unsure, he doesn't know how long it takes to get ready in the morning.
"Okay then. Goodnight, Namjoon-ah!" The android giggles before closing the door. Namjoon felt himself letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding.
Should he lock the door? Will Seokjin kill him in his sleep? No, he hasn't done anything wrong to him so he guesses he'll be safe… right?
"Well if I die then it'll reduce oxygen waste so haha yeah that's good." He laughs to himself though he feels like he has a point.
But not dying would be nice.
