Work Text:
Devildom was always dark.
And Lucifer already struggles to get up in the mornings.
Lucifer naturally woke up but he felt so groggy, so tired that he wanted to slip back into bed. He looked behind him to see that Satan has, once again, has fallen asleep with a book in his hand. He promised Lucifer that he would read one more chapter and then he would go to bed but both of them knew that was a lie. Still, too tired to argue back with Satan after finishing the never ended paperwork, Lucifer went to sleep.
“If you keep falling asleep like this, you’re going to ruin your precious books.” Lucifer murmured out as he plucked the book out of Satan’s sleeping hands. It was a detective novel, as always, as Lucifer slipped in the bookmark and placed the book on his nightstand. Satan insists that he doesn’t have a need for them but Lucifer always put one in, mainly to spite him. “I always need to clean after you, how cute.” Lucifer tucked Satan’s hair away and placed a small kiss on Satan’s forehead.
When Satan wasn’t trying to make Lucifer’s life more stressful as it is with his petty pranks and curses he could look very peaceful when he slept. Lucifer stretched his stiff joints, enjoying how they popped and massaged the crick in his neck as he forced himself to get up.
Suddenly, he felt warm arms wrapped around his waist, tugging him back to the bed.
“What are you doing?” Lucifer said as he looked down on his brother.
“Stay.” He croaked out.
“Satan,” Lucifer chuckled out. “I need to go. I got things to do.” It was rare to see Satan so needy and honest to Lucifer. He honestly didn’t mind some change of honesty from time to time
“Bullshit. We both know you’re terrible at getting up. And I,” Satan yawned, sleeping threatening to take him in, “want you with me. You’re really warm. So stay.”
Lucifer tried to pull away from Satan’s grip but felt something slither across his waist and squeezed harshly. Lucifer didn’t need to turn around to see that Satan had sprouted his horns and that his eyes were glowing neon green.
“Get back in here. Now. You have one extra hour before you really have to do your work so get,” Satan yanks Lucifer into the bed with him, earning a surprised gasp from Lucifer, “your ass in here and cuddle me, damnit. You’re always working.” Satan nuzzled underneath Lucifer’s neck and brought the blanket over themselves.
Quickly realizing this was a losing battle, Lucifer got himself comfortable in Satan’s grip, slowly stroking over Satan’s horns and messy bed hair.
Satan doesn’t want to admit it but his horns being touched pacifies him the fastest and is his number one weak spot. He nearly purrs when he feels Lucifer’s hand stroking and circling his horns.
“Well, someone is a little needy for attention. Can’t go a day without me?” Teased out Lucifer.
“If you value the ability to walk you will shut up.” Satan squeezed Lucifer’s waist in warning but Lucifer paid no mind to it, quietly chuckling at Satan’s actions. Lucifer fished for Satan’s left hand and brought it over to his lips, kissing each of his knuckles until he made it to Satan’s ring-covered finger and placed a kiss on it. Satan’s face bloomed red, shifting his green eyes away from Lucifer’s red ones.
“What? So shy now? I could have sworn you were begging for me to stay in bed—”
Satan threw a pillow straight at Lucifer’s face and when he easily caught it with his hand and grinned Satan rolled his eyes. “This is why we can’t have nice things together. You always need the last word—hey!” Lucifer grabbed Satan by the tail and planted him right on his lap, wrapping his arms around Satan’s waist and making him look into his eyes.
“Don’t you just fucking grab me by the tail—”
“Say you love me.”
A silence between them as the words hung in the air. Satan’s face went blank. “What?”
“Say it. Say that you love me. I want to hear it from you.”
Satan slightly shifted on Lucifer’s lap, trying to see where this came from. “Come on, now. Do I really have to? Isn’t this already proof?” Satan held up his left hand, wiggling his ring finger.
“I don’t want to hear anything else from you unless it’s those words.”
Satan sighed and steeled himself to say it. Of course he loved him, he just didn’t . . say it as often. He has said different variations, yes but those words specifically? He only ever said them after enjoying the aftercare of Lucifer’s tender hands and only ever when it’s just Lucifer in the room and even he doesn’t still say it. Satan pressed his forehead against Lucifer’s, right where his black diamond would be, his blond bangs framing his face.
And ever so quietly let out those small, three words.
“I love you.”
And Satan really did love him. For half the time the world has been created for Satan to loath and scream and curse at Lucifer it only took one year to come to terms with his feelings and realized that he has fallen for him.
Lucifer chuckled and pressed a small kiss on top of Satan’s lips. “I love you too, Satan. No matter what.”
“Even when I’m trying to curse you?” Satan grinned out. “Because I just made both sides of your pillow warm so you can’t get the cool side.”
Lucifer’s eyes snapped open and his soft expression turned into one of murder.
“How long will the spell last for?” He snapped out.
“For the next seven days and if I remember correctly you have a very busy schedule, one that will surely leave you wanting to claw into your bed and sleep your worries away, Lucifer, Avatar of Pride, and sadly, my lover.”
“What are the conditions to undo the spell? Spit it out.” Lucifer growled out, his fingers digging into Satan’s thigh.
“Oh, it’s nothing too drastic.” Satan leaned down to Lucifer’s ear, not minding that he was bleeding from Lucifer’s grip. “You just need to let me put cat ears on you—”
“I refuse.” Plain and simple as that. There was no other way around that. Lucifer would never accept to do it and they both knew that. “You’re an embarrassment to yourself.”
Satan wrapped his arms around Lucifer’s neck and whispered into his ear. “Oh, but didn’t you say you loved me no matter what? You’re just going to back out your promise like that? Because I’m not letting you get away from this. Be prepared Lucifer because I am going to have you mewling like a bitch in heat tonight.”
Lucifer scoffed and lightly pushed Satan away. “I hate you.”
“As do I, Lucifer. As do I.”
But none of them truly meant it.
