Frostbyte Week day1: Cuddles
It has been an awful long week.
Weiss had no idea how Penny did it. The girl under her seemed happy, practically glued to the scroll screen. How could anyone be able to concentrate on anything after a week like this, was beyond Weiss’s understanding. Penny seemed to be intent on soaking in the new information. Who would have thought that a documentary about the life cycles of anemones could be so fascinating.
Weiss was content. Yeah, every bit of her body was exhausted and/or hurting. But that was what it was. Between training vigorously, taking on extra missions and participating in the rebuilding of Amity, Weiss had little to no time to rest and relax. Well, at least in a sense of actually doing stuff. She usually just fell into bed at the end of the day and was deep asleep before she could have gotten her turn in the shower.
But today was different. After meticulous planning and going over schedules millions of times, the two of them could arrange their days off onto the same day.
In the original plan, they would have been going to the aquariums, since Penny was deeply fascinated with the fish and other sea creatures. But the weather forecast advised citizens to stay at home due to a heavy snowstorm.
Weiss was sure Atlas' synthetic climate and defense system would hold against any snowstorm, still... It was pretty nice to stay in bed and laze around all day. The excellent company was just the cherry on top.
And that's how they ended up cozied up in Weiss' bunk. At first Weiss insisted on watching some movies, then the notion quickly turned into watching documentaries. After Weiss called bullshit one too many times on the documentary of dust production, they had to reach an ultimatum and look for another topic. Thus, they started to watch nature documentaries. Weiss had no idea that it would make Penny zero out on the screen in a full two seconds after starting the first episode.
The two of them were in a ... rather compromising position. Far from the initial embarrassment, they laid relaxed, with Weiss more or less draping over Penny. Like a blanket. Weiss rested her face in the center of Penny's chest as the girl was playing with her hair absentmindedly. A rare feat she let the sweet girl do it. It was a well kept secret that Weiss was just as protective of her hair as Yang, or maybe more protective than the blonde.
Weiss wasn't sure how they got to this position, but she couldn't complain. Penny was warm and smelled sweet and nice. She wasn't too squishy yet Weiss wouldn't change a thing about her. It was a running joke between the two that maybe Penny should ask her dad for 'extra padding'. The first time Penny fired that joke, Weiss snort-spit a handful of m&ms.
It was hellishly cute hearing Penny get excited when the creatures of the sea got on the screen next. Penny tried to keep on playing with her hair, but her fingers slowed and eventually they stopped as she focused on the screen with all her processing power.
There was a childish wonder in her eyes, her lips slightly open in intense concentration. Right there and then, Weiss knew that Penny was deaf to the world.
With that knowledge, Weiss let the mechanical sounds of her girlfriend's body lure her to sleep. It was oddly calming to hear the soft whirr so similar to breathing. The rhythm of Penny's body working was relaxing far beyond than it had the right to be. The soft clicks and hums soothed Weiss' nerves.
When Weiss came to her senses, she wasn't sure how much time had passed. Penny didn't move, not one bit, but there was a different documentary on the scroll. This time it was about seals. Every time the seals were shown up close, Weiss could hear Penny's processing quicken. It was too cute to handle.
Of course, Weiss made the mental note to reserve two seats for a seal show.
A sudden spike in Penny's heartbeat and Weiss was clueless what could it be, there were no cute animals on screen this time. And then, Weiss felt the careful hands in her hair, petting the locks gently. As she turned, she found herself against heavily dilated pupils.
"Did you sleep well, Weiss?" A sweet voice accompanied by hasty mechanical noises.
"Yes, my love." Weiss squeaked as she hid her sleepy face further into Penny's neck and hair. A faint scent of body wash and some fruity shampoo filled her senses.
Whiiiirrrr
Weiss smugly smiled to herself as Penny rapidly grew hot under the collar. She made a vague motion to arch an eyebrow at her flustered girlfriend.
"Uhm.... don't worry, girlfriend Weiss, my surface temperatures are limited to a safe interval.
In truth, Weiss didn’t mind it one bit. She actually found it cute and endearing. She had a feeling that these reactions were the best compliments she had ever gotten.
Before Penny could do anything, the kiss landed softly. Not on the lips as she expected. But on the very tip of her nose. Even that was enough to make steam nearly come out of her ears and get her close to bluescreening.
Spending the day huddled up was truly better than going to the aquariums.
