Work Text:
Hinata could feel the butterflies around his stomach as he made his way towards the Japanese National Team's training ground.
It had been ten days since their training had ended and he hadn't seen Kageyama since they'd finished training as both of them had been busy with promotional stuff for different brands and sponsorships.
And he'd kind of hated it.
He liked doing promotional stuff especially when he got to work with Kenma - which was often. But, he missed Kageyama a lot. He'd assumed that they'd get to be together throughout when their training started to the end of the Olympics but it hadn't worked out that way and he'd begun to hate coming back to an empty apartment.
But now it was time to finally see his boyfriend again because they were travelling to the Olympic village.
"Shouyou!" Hinata looked up at his name being shouted from down the street. Bokuto had a beaming smile on his face as he began to pick up the pace to see Hinata. "I thought I would be the first one here, I just couldn't sit still. Keiji suggested that I came down early because I was obviously too excited and I thought that was a great idea. Although, I really didn't want to say goodbye to Keiji or the twins but I'm so excited for the Olympics, we're finally going to the Olympics!"
"I'm excited too!" Hinata exclaimed, immediately matching Bokuto's energy.
Hinata appreciated Bokuto being in his life so much. Ever since their first training camp together, Bokuto had happily taken Hinata under his wing, teaching him many things that had helped him through his career. Part of the reason he wanted to join the Black Jackals was because it would mean finally playing on the same team as Bokuto and he loved every single training session the two of them had together, it felt like the world wanted them to work together and Hinata didn't mind one bit, he'd become one of his closest friends and now they were going to the Olympics together, playing on the biggest stage together.
"I bet you're excited to see Kageyama again too. This whole promotional tour has been crazy, right?"
"Yeah. I haven't seen him since we finished training. He did text me saying he should be here in like five minutes."
The two of them stood together in silence, waiting for the rest of the team along with their coaches and trainers to show up and Hinata was enjoying the last bit of quiet he would probably get until the Olympics was over.
He didn't really know exactly what to expect when it came to the Olympics. He'd watched so many Olympics games and had obviously been training really hard but he didn't really know what it was going to be like. He'd been in competitions before but this was the Olympics, one of the biggest stages in sport and he was part excited and part nervous about what was going to go on.
He was excited to see Oikawa again too as the two of them hadn't seen each other since Hinata still lived in Brazil with him.
"Shouyou, Koutarou, what's up!" Atsumu shouted at the pair as he and Kiyoomi arrived with Rin, Komori and Aran.
"'Tsumu!" Bokuto greeted immediately, hugging the setter and throwing high fives at Rin, Aran, Komori and Kiyoomi.
Everyone else arrived within the next ten minutes apart from Kageyama and Ushijima.
Hinata was starting to get a bit anxious, Kageyama had already text him to tell him he'd been held up because he'd been waiting for Ushijima but he was still anxious that something had happened.
He was dipping in and out of the conversation with the rest of the team, trying to keep himself distracted by keeping up conversation but he also knew the rest of the team had picked up on his anxieties because they were trying to include him more in their conversations and asking his opinions about things.
It was another seven minutes and twenty five seconds, Hinata was counting, before he could see Kageyama and Ushijima making their way towards the rest of the team.
Hinata could barely contain his own excitement as he did a quick walk towards the pair of them. Ushijima greeted him quickly before leaving the two of them alone.
"Tobio, we're going to the Olympics," Hinata whispered excitedly, not giving his boyfriend the chance to reply before he was throwing his arms around his neck and hugging him tightly. Kageyama immediately reciprocated the hug, squeezing Hinata gently.
"I missed you Shouyou, next time, let's do promotional material together, okay?"
"Yes please," Hinata replied, pulling away from the hug. He looked over at their friends to see all of them trying to pretend they weren't watching the two of them. "Now come on! You're already late and we need to get going!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming, idiot." Kageyama replied, rolling his eyes fondly before letting Hinata pull him by his hand towards the rest of the team. "Sorry we were late but we're here now."
"Good. I honestly thought Hinata was going to have a panic attack waiting for you." Atsumu joked, patting Kageyama's shoulder.
"Oh yeah, like you'd be different if it was Kiyoomi," Hinata shot back, pouting at the setter.
"Like any of us would be different," Bokuto chipped in, looking towards Iwaizumi. "I bet you're excited to see Tooru."
"I am and if we don't get going soon and we're late, I'll never hear the end of it so everybody, on the bus." Iwaizumi said, helping the team to load their bags onto the bus.
The Coaches did a quick headcount to make sure that everyone was with them before they shooed everyone onto the bus.
Everyone seemed to be having their own quiet conversations within small groups on the bus but Hinata, for once, didn't want to be involved. Him and Kageyama had chosen some seats near the front of the bus so that they could have their own space and the rest of the team seemed to respect that. Every so often, Hinata could hear Atsumu and Kiyoomi laughing with each other or Bokuto, Suna and Aran deep in conversation with each other.
"Are you okay Sho?" Kageyama whispered, resting his hand in Hinata's. "You've been really quiet today."
"I'm fine. Tired for sure, I was up all night because I was so excited," Hinata explained, smiling at his boyfriend. "Plus, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed about the fact we're going to the Olympics. This has been a big dream of mine for a while and now it's happening."
"It is overwhelming at the Olympics, we're going to have a lot of people watching us but we're going to be together and going to be working together and that's going to be exciting."
"Yeah, of course I'm excited to be playing with you Tobio and we're hopefully going to get to play against Oikawa too but it's a lot."
"It is a lot but we're going to be okay. If you need a minute or need a time out during training or when we're just walking around, tell me and I'll help."
Hinata was basically bouncing on the balls of his feet as the team were ushered off of the bus and towards their accommodation.
He had already passed many people that he knew he wanted to talk to and share stories with. Through his time in Brazil, he'd met so many other volleyball players that he knew were also at the Olympics that he wanted to catch up with and watch the matches of. People he was excited to introduce Kageyama too as when Kageyama had visited him in Brazil, the two of them hadn't seen that many people.
He was excited for the next two weeks.
It was going to be hard, he knew that. Parts of it was going to be extremely overwhelming and he knew that winning was going to take a lot of work but he was excited. Excited to be sharing the stage with his teammates that he enjoyed working with, he was excited to see people that he looked up to and knew, like Oikawa.
"Look who finally turned up!" Hinata looked up to see Oikawa was walking towards them, a massive smile on his face. He did a quick glance back to see Iwaizumi was trying to hide his own smile about finally seeing his boyfriend again, Hinata knew it had been around two months since the two of them had seen each other last.
"Okay, let's go and get checked in, Hajime, come find us when you're ready." One of their Coaches ushered the team towards the entrance, leaving Oikawa and Iwaizumi alone to catch up.
Kuroo and Kenma were also waiting for them, greeting the team as they approached.
It was about half an hour before Hinata and Kageyama were finally alone in their room, it had taken longer than Hinata had expected to check in at the front desk and he was both ready to sleep for ten hours and ready to play some volleyball and go straight into training.
Whilst Kageyama unpacked, Hinata threw open the curtains and looked out over the thousands of athletes that were wondering around the village. He briefly wondered if all of them were as anxious as he was about the whole thing before he decided that they probably were. Everyone must feel the same kind of pressure he did because everyone was there for one thing, to have fun and to do their countries proud.
"Hey, stop thinking so hard otherwise your brain will explode."
"Shut up," Hinata hissed, turning to face his boyfriend. "I'm nervous." He admitted quietly, looking down at the floor.
"It's okay to be nervous, you know?" Kageyama replied, lifting Hinata's chin so that the two of them were looking at each other. "This is a big thing we're here to do but we're going to win gold."
"Yeah, we're going to win."
"There you are," Kageyama replied, pressing his lips to Hinata's softly.
"We're going to win Tobio!"
"We're going to win!"
"I love you Tobio, I'm so glad we're here together."
"I love you too, moron."
