Chapter Text
I became a wolf before I even became a proper woman, and my mother has hated me ever since.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mother grips my arm as we approach the platform. If you think I've been dreading this, you're wrong. I've wanted to get away from this manic half family for as long as I can remember and now's my chance.
My mother yanks my arm and demands my attention, I turn to face her and she bends down so we're nose to nose. Her nails dig into the diagonal scar she knows is on my arm. Although her voice is a whisper, it's sharper than the blade of my dagger.
"Listen here, filthy child. You will not disgrace your family, anymore than you already have. You will not hang out with the dirty bloods. Understood?" The last word's accentuate by her pure-blood accent. I lock my jaw, nod and pick up my trunk with my free arm.
Mother finally gets out of my face but still grips onto my scarred arm, she plasters a fake smile on her face and speaks louder this time. "Have fun at school Darling! See you at break! Make sure to send lots of letters!"
Her tone brings back memories of a time when she used to love me, before the attack, before my dad died... when things were good. It's like she blames me for the attack instead of the bloody werewolf who bit me.
I sneer at her, yank my arm away and run to the train. I hear a little shocked gasp and hop onto the train, as the door closes I hear her recover and screech "YOU-" The rest is cut off by the suction of the door.
I let a little breath out and look around, I slowly walk forward and look into each carriage door as I pass, to see if there's anyone I know. I see flashes of green velvet seats and dark robes swishing.
My head starts to spin as the doors go by quicker and quicker. I start doubting my earlier excitement about coming to this school.
I close my eyes, my feet still moving and open them in time to see a flash of someone's face just before I knock into them, sending us both tumbling to the ground. I hear an oof and a thump, then I murmur "Bloody hell."
I look to my right and see a blonde boy rubbing his head, "Sorry." I mutter quietly pulling myself off the floor.
I see a flash of annoyance in his eyes as he brushes off his muggle clothes. "Watch where you're bloody going." He sneers in a tone similar to my mothers. Hearing this I harden my eyes and lock my jaw, automatically gearing up for a fight. Before I catch a whiff of something I haven't smelled before.
I narrow my eyes and sniff a bit more, trying to place the scent. I see the boy cautiously sniffing too. Hmm, must just be someone eating something in one of the carriages. Earlier anger forgotten, I'm only embarrassed now. I turn and pull open the door to the nearest carriage, escaping into it.
I look around to see three faces looking up at me from their seats, all of them mildly familiar. "Got a free seat?" I ask and the raven haired boy, Regulus, nods. I go sit beside him and nod to the other two in the carriage.
"Well, I was just leaving." Says a blonde girl, who I remember as Narcissa Black. I smile at her as she exits, I now turn awkwardly to the other two boys who are looking at me in silence. After a while, I feel the familiar anger coming back and feel my jaw lock.
"Is there something wrong?" I ask and Regulus starts to shake his head but the other boy stands up.
"Actually there is. Mum warned me not to talk to you." He says with a glare and points a boney finger in my face.
"And why would that be?" I say standing up as well, I'm about the same height as this Crouch boy, if not, taller. My mother knows of his family.
"Because of your... issues." He says the word accusingly. I jerk my head back, shocked, before I put my guard up again.
But, ever cunning, he catches this and smiles triumphantly, "So, it is true." he says with an ugly smile and brings a hand up to my cheek.
"A little wolfling." He says and I see only a red haze of anger and terror. I yank his hand off my cheek and slap his pale face. If I wasn't so angry I'd hate the touch.
"Piss off." I say storming out of the carriage and slamming the door behind me.
"Come on, Crouch. Really?" I hear Regulus say faintly through the glass, his voice a bit whiney. But I don't hear Crouch's reply. Embarrassed and terrified to be exposed, I slip into a carriage about four down from the two boys.
I slam the door close my eyes and sigh with relief letting my head rest on the glass of the door. When I open my eyes, I see yet, again four boys staring at me, only two I recognize.
I groan and the one with brown mess of curly hair and glasses on the bridge of his nose nods at me "Uh, hello." he says. A mousy little blonde boy on the side looks at me, terrified.
"I'm not gonna stab you, you know." I say to him.
Then an idea comes to my mind, "Well," I say, slipping my dagger out of my robe pocket and twirling it in my hand "I might." I say with a grin and the mousy boy edges closer to the window, with wide eyes.
"Only kidding... maybe." I say with a shrug as the dagger hangs loosely in my hand, the boy looks at me with suspicion and inches away further.
"I like her!" Announces the boy with long, black hair. Sirius Black, I think, I've seen both the brothers in a day... recognized them from one of my mothers gatherings. I grin, then look at the last boy in the carriage and my smile fades.
"You." I say as I recognize him from our tumble earlier in the hallway. "You." he nods and Sirius looks between us.
"You know each other?" he asks, confused.
"No. But I almost knocked his brain right out of his head in the hallway!" I respond and the three look at me confused.
"She ran into me... why she was sprinting, I've no bloody idea." The dirty blonde boy says, shooting me an accusing glance. I just shrug uneasily and say "I panicked."
"Can I sit?" I ask before they can ask me what I panicked about. Two of them nod and the other two look skeptical, so I sit next to Sirius. I smell the odd smell again in the carriage but shrug it off.
"So, what are your names?" I say after an awkward silence.
"James." says the curly haired boy with glasses.
"Peter." Says the mousy boy.
"Remus." grumbles the tall blonde and Sirius turns to me, offering a hand. "Sirius Black, at your service m'lady."
I roll my eyes and ignore his offered hand. "I know who you are. You don't remember me?" He cocks his head to the side and shakes his head. "From one of your mum's parties..." I say and he still looks confused.
"I'm Aurora Rowle..." That let's some recognition come into his eyes, and he jerks his hand away.
"Ah, one of mum's friends' kids I suppose." He says with a sniff, I nod and he rolls his eyes.
"Well, if you're crazy about all that pureblood stuff then you might as well leave the carriage now." he says with a scoff.
"Sirius!" says the boy introduced as James.
I smile at him and say "It's okay. I'm not even a pureblood myself." The silence in the carriage is deafening, and I realize what I've just said, I'm sure horror is written across my face.
Bloody stupid, I am. I come from the Rowle family and I've just admitted I'm not pureblood. I've basically just sold myself out to them. Idiot. Idiot.
Their mouths hang open and they all look confused. "Oh my god." I say softly, and a wave of panic washes over me, I bolt right out of the carriage.
