Chapter Text
Flamestar didn't have any regrets.
She'd miss leading her clan and serving ThunderClan as their leaders, but as she got her cats to safety and faced her enemy head on, Flamestar couldn't say she regretted any of it. She had seen ThunderClan through times of unrest and uncertainty for many seasons, and had given each of her lives up for her clan and the other clans. The flaming ginger tabby she-cat knew, in her heart, as she pounced on the fox, these would be her final days.

Squirrelflight took a shaky breath and glanced around. It was her aunt's vigil. The last of Nutmegheart's litter was gone. Sandstorm sat next to her daughter, nuzzling her gently as a form of comfort. No words would be spoken yet, not until Squirrelflight, ThunderClan's deputy, spoke.
"I... Flamestar was an amazing leader," Squirrelflight managed. "She was compassionate, passionate, headstrong, and was never afraid to do what she needed to do, even if it meant doing something that would get her in trouble. I can only hope to be half the leader she was..."
Squirrelflight's gaze looked around the clan. All of ThunderClan had gathered for Flamestar's final vigil, which was expected for a leader such as her. Her gaze, eventually, landed on Cloudfeather however, who was next to his dads, crying.
The now-leader of ThunderClan straightened her back. "I'll go to receive my lives first thig tomorrow.... We all deserve to mourn her right now."
Especially Cloudfeather, not that Squirrelflight said that out loud. He was ThunderClan's only medicine cat, so the fluffy white tom would have been forced to skip his own mother's vigil if Squirrelflight had gone that night.
