Chapter Text

Izuku sat hunched over at his desk. Katsuki was glancing in his direction as the teacher started speaking about career forms.

“Well, then again, you all want to be heroes right?!” The teacher tossed the papers into the air with a flourish. Students whooped and cheered as they fired off their quirks.

“Now, now you can’t be using quirks in school,” he ‘reprimanded’ with a smile, the teacher read over a piece of paper on his podium and broke into a smile, “Ah, Bakugou, you're trying to get into U.A.?”

The students erupted into murmurs as the teen jerkily nodded.

The national school U.A.?”

“Aren’t their acceptance rates really low all the time?”

“To be expected of Katsuki!”

Izuku was watching the teacher carefully, he could see the moment his plastic smile fell, “I see that Midoriya is also trying to get in.”

The students very audibly stifled laughter as Katsuki tensed.

“Good luck to you two,” the teacher said innocently, as if he didn’t just paint a big red target on Izuku’s back, “If you think you want to change the high school you’ll be going to please come find me after class and we can discuss it. Otherwise let’s get started with the lesson.”

Izuku leaned back in his chair with a sigh, mentally preparing himself for what was sure to be a show after class.

The moment the bell rang the teacher was out of the class in seconds. Whether it was to avoid being a witness or because he was avoiding the greenette’s cold rage is debatable.

“Deku, what the fuck do you think you’re doing trying to get into U.A.?” a classmate Izuku had never bothered to learn the name of marched towards him. The teen didn’t entirely react, instead opting to shove all his things into his bag and briskly step out of reach. Katsuki slid in between them, protectively blocking the classmate from Izuku. The greenette narrowed his eyes at the action.

“Ah, guess you need to stick with your guard dog,” Classmate sneered, other students snickered their agreements, “you better not be following that idiotic dream still, after all, you’re just gonna be a liability.”

Katsuki’s palms popped and sparked, Izuku watched apathetically.

“Be realistic, Deku. In the end, You’re not gonna be anything more than a helpless—”

Izuku used Katsuki’s back as a springboard, ducking to avoid hitting the roof and leaping over the blond to land roughly on the classmate’s chest. The brown haired boy went down and gasped as the air was knocked out of his chest. Izuku grabbed the teen’s collar and pulled him close.

“I will become a quirkless hero. Fuck you and anyone else who thinks otherwise.” Izuku spat, eyes shining like toxic waste and words just as poisonous.

The idiot grabbed Izuku’s wrist and choked out, “Well I have a back-up plan for you, if your dreams turn out realistically then there’s always a leap of faith off the roof. Don’t worry, no one will miss you.”

Katsuki shook with rage, Izuku scoffed, amused before slamming the brown haired teen hard onto the tiles. He openly groaned while Izuku rose from his knees.

The greenette scanned over the crowd to recognize expressions of disgust, mock, and even traces of pity…

Nothing has changed.

Students kept their distance, watching him warily as he passed them in a hall. A wolf-eared girl foolishly tried to trip him and Izuku didn’t hesitate to stomp on her toes, unsurprised when she leapt back and howled in pain.

“Izukun! You shouldn’t do that!” Katsuki shouted, “Are you okay?!”

“Fuck off!” the girl snapped, jerking her gaze to Izuku. Although her tail was still tucked between her legs she gave a fierce show of sharp canines, “You’ll pay for that, Deku.”

The greenette didn’t pause and continued to walk to the exit, Katsuki scrambled after him.

When he did catch up he found the other teen being cornered by two other boys.

“CUT THAT OUT ASSHOLES!” Katsuki was going to explode them into orbit,

Izuku took the distraction and rushed the closest one, kneeing him in the groin and grabbing his shoulders to swing into the wall. The other boy refocused quickly and managed to deck Izuku in the nose. Katsuki stepped in by then, exploding the boy into the wall of the school with his buddy.

The blond huffed angrily, side-eyeing Izuku who was fishing his bag out of the koi pond. Reaching in and pulling out a plastic bag containing tissues. He wiped away the blood dripping from his nose and grabbed extras before tossing the soggy bag over his shoulder. Shoving past Katsuki and heading to the gate.

“You’re welcome,” the blond grumbled, quickening his pace to catch up to the other.

“I never asked for your help now did I,” Izuku said evenly, tossing the bloodied tissues into a trashcan.

Katsuki grumbled something unintelligible but didn’t say anything else. When they left the gate Izuku took a right, taking the longer route when he saw a rather obvious group of teens from Aldera. As much as he wanted to show them up, the greenette knew his limits at least. Starting for the overpass with Katsuki trailing behind him. A questioning look was shot his way but quickly answered.

For the most part the walk was pleasantly silent, he almost forgot Katsuki was even following him!

“Izukun?” he spoke too soon, “you know that...that Ito is wrong about...no one missing you.”

"Do you think I give a fuck what that lowlife says?" Izuku scowled

“Oh, good! But..just know that I will miss you. And I’m sure Uncle Hisashi will too.”

“I do not fucking care,” Izuku grumbled, exasperated, “Now follow through with the damn agreement we made.”

Katsuki huffed, but thankfully went silent without protest. As they’re walking through the underpass, Izuku abruptly halted when a faint gurgling started echoing through the structure. Katsuki stopped just before bumping into the other teen.

“Wha—”

“Perfect! A medium sized cloak!” Sludge burst out of the manhole and dived towards the pair. Izuku shoved Katsuki to the side then disappeared from sight.
