PERFECT SONG

Summary:

Yoongi had been stuck for days inside his studio trying to conjure the perfect song but something is lacking and he couldn’t pinpoint what.

Notes:

This is my first YOONJIN story. Hope you enjoy!

Chapter Text

Yoongi had been stuck in his studio for days trying to produce this new song that he had written. He already has the perfect lyrics and the perfect melody. He had also recorded a demo track to give to the vocal line. Namjoon and Hoseok will understand, once they hear the song, that there will be no rap included in this. He knows he will.

Yoongi corrected his posture when he heard someone is punching in a code to enter his studio. He was surprised to see Jimin walking in with the same outfit that Yoongi saw when he was snapped at the airport. He didn’t expect Jimin to come here straight from there.

“You should’ve rested first before coming here,” Yoongi had told Jimin. He wants all the vocalist involved to be of pristine condition. He means their voices should be of pristine conditions.

Jimin shook his head. “I want to work first, then rest so I could cuddle up with my boyfriend after.”

“Don’t you mean boyfriends?”

Jimin had once again shook his head at Yoongi. “Nope. I meant what I said,” he said then dropped his bag on one of Yoongi’s leather couches. “Jungkook will come here in an hour or two and that leaves Taehyung at home. The one who will cuddle me to death.”

Yoongi had not understand this poly thing at first. Little by little, Jungkook, Jimin, and Taehyung had made him understand that love is still love, after all. The Maknae line’s love for each other grew so strong that they engaged in this kind of love too powerful, too enigmatic for his brain.

Jimin had finished recording and went straight out of his studio. He had muttered a quick goodbye to Yoongi and that was it. Yoongi doesn’t want to push it because this is extra work for him and he came straight here after his quick vacation.

Not long after, Jungkook had entered his studio. Smile wide. This young man had probably met his lover on the way here.

“Hey, hyung!”

“Met Jimin on the way here?”

“Yep. On the elevator. We made out,” Jungkook had said that earned a groan from Yoongi. Sometimes Jungkook, Jimin, and Taehyung shares too much information. Its never the ‘need to know basis’ answers. He doesn’t know who got it from whom because the members had always stuck with each other for so long that they almost –ALMOST share the same wave length and brain cell.

“You’ve listened to the track right?” Yoongi is making sure that he did his assignment. He just wants this to be perfect.

Jungkook nodded as he walked towards the entrance of the booth and headed to the mic.

“I even had it memorized,” Jungkook had said practically grinning at Yoongi. That is when Yooni had noticed that he has not brought the lyric sheet with him. He has no doubt that Jungkook had it memorized. That boy will overwork himself just to be perfect.

It wasn’t long until Jungkook had finished recording. It wasn’t him that kept him inside the booth. It was himself. Jungkook wanted to add adlibs and magic. Yoongi just wanted the demo track to be recorded by a voice that isn’t his own. But he won’t stop Jungkook from doing what he wants. He is just a hyung who supports his dongsaeng.

Jungkook removed the headphones. “Seokjin would be perfect for this song. Just add my adlibs to it though,” Jungkook laughed off before heading out the booth.

“I’ll wait for you ‘til Seokjin hyung finishes up.” Jungkook declared. “Because Tae isn’t coming.”

It’s true that Taehyung won’t come and record because he had already done his own recording. Taehyung had sent his recording over the email and Yoongi has yet to listen on it.

Seokjin won’t be coming and won’t be doing the recording of this song. When Yoongi had said it was a song for the vocal line, he meant vocal line minus Jin. As wrong as it may sound, he doesn’t want him to sing it. It would ruin the surprise.

“Hyung will not record today actually. Tae would’ve been the last one if ever he came by.” Yoongi was hoping that Jungkook would buy whatever nonsense he had spouted.

Jungkook stood up and said his goodbyes to Yoongi. He bought it. Yoongi had breathed a sigh of relief. Now he is going to work on the recording he has at hand.

He had already listened to listened to all three recordings. All three had different tones. All three had different styles. The songs that the three members had recorded was good. It was better than good. But for Yoongi it wasn’t perfect. He needed the song to be perfect.

Jimin’s version of the song had actually came out as smooth and almost laid back. He liked the vibe of the song if it were some other song that he had written.

Jungkook’s version turned out to be a pop song with all the flares he had given the song. It had side stepped into another dimension that Yoongi had originally intended it to be.

Taehyung’s version was a bit different. He had changed the beat and the rhythm of the song, which isn’t bad. But the song came out almost melodramatic. This is Taehyungs type of songs.

Yoongi doesn’t want it laid back, flared up, or dramatic. He jus want it just right. He just wants it to be a better version of the demo track that he gave them. He just wanted the song to sound better.

As a producer, the song that they have done was amazing, but as a lover who was going to give this song as a present to his significant other, he wants it to be the perfect song.

For hours, Yoongi had contemplated whether he should just try and record a better version of the  demo track. He would try and record it without sounding too sleepy or too coffee-induced. He would try and record it as best as he could. He’d run auto-tune if needed be. He just wants to get this right. He, himself should just try and record the perfect song himself.

‘Fuck it!’  he thought. He IS going to do it. No hesitations. He walked inside the booth, like Jungkook, he didn’t bring his lyrics sheet because he already know it by heart. His own thought onto pages.

When the intro started, Yoongi had breathed out and shut his eyes. He is going to feel whatever lyrics he has written and imagine that Seokjin is standing right in front of him, listening to his thoughts through this song.

“Will you marry me, Seokjin?” he had said out loud. Recording those words together with the song. He had no regrets because for him, he had already recorded the perfect version of the song. And he may or may not have been to carried away with his imagination.

Yoongi opened his eyes and was shocked to see a crying Seokjin on the otherside of the booth. Both of Seokjin’s hand was covering his mouth probably trying to hide his crying. The tears and the cry was evident on the elder’s face.

Yoongi hurried out of the booth and immediately hugged the crying Seokjin. “Don’t cry, hyung.” He said as he soothed his back trying to calm him down.

Seokjin put a little distance between the two of them. “Do you mean it?” he had asked Yoongi.

Yoongi nodded. He had meant every word on it. Even the proposal. “Did get to listen to everything?” He asked.

“It was a beautiful song,” Seokjin said. “But I loved the last part even more.”

Yoongi just grinned. Of course he liked the ending. “So?”

“So what?” Seokjin had cocked his head to the right. Yoongi knows that he is just teasing him but he will ask him again just so it would be clear to both of them.

“So, Seokjin, will you marry me?” Yoongi knelt down and grabbed the ring from his coat. He had been carrying the ring around ever since he realized that he is ready to settle down with the love of his life.

Yoongi had been ready for the longest time yet he still wanted Jin to be ready as well. Both of them needs to be ready because both of them are in this relationship—not just Yoongi. When he felt that Jin was ready, he bought the ring and planned out a simple proposal for him.

They would have been on one of their fishing trips, with the song he had recorded blaring out on the speaker, kneeling on one knee asking Seokjin to marry him. The universe wanted another thing and then here they are in the Genius Lab—Yoongi on one knee and Seokjin pouring his eye out.

“Of course I would marry you!” Seokjin had said Jin between his sobs.

Yoongi was beyond ecstatic. He stood up and slipped the ring onto Seokjin’s finger. Yoongi might have been moving too slow because he was now shocked that Seokjin is kissing him.

If Seokjin had said no this time, he would propose again. Next time it would be on the fishing boat!
