Chapter Text

Kisame was looking at the convention program, absentmindedly petting Samehada, his 6 years old Komondor. The dog convention looked promising. It was his first time in Konoha’s convention. He had recently moved to the city for a job opportunity. He never missed Kiri's annual dog show and coming to this one in Konoha was helping him greatly in settling into his new life.

"Yo, I'm sorry can I sit th-ere, seems like there's only ai-air."

Kisame looked up puzzled, next to him stood a large guy with tanned skin and blond braided hair.

"Excuse me?"

"Someone doesn't get the rhymes, yo! Is this seat taken?" The stranger clarified.

"Uh no, go ahead..."

Kisame got back to his reading, it seemed that everywhere he went, weirdos came to him. At least when Samehada was here, with her sharp teeth and protective nature, weirdos never remained longer than necessary. Except this time. Before he realized it, Samehada was wagging her tail and sniffing the strange man's hands.

"Oh! Are you some kind of dog-whisperer? Samehada is very wary of strangers usually..."

"Dogs trust me, they know I'm family."

A strange man... But Samehada seemed to like him, and so Kisame decided to give him a chance.

"Do you have a dog yourself?"

"My best friend Gyūki Yo! Do you want to see a photo?" Without waiting for an answer, the man got his phone out and showed Kisame a handful of pictures of a big American staff.

"Oh, Gyūki, right? He's beautiful!" Kisame couldn’t help himself, he wasn’t very talkative with strangers but that man's dog was really the textbook example of its breed.

"I couldn't bring him, right? Or he would've stole the spotlight yeah!"

The man was scrolling through his camera roll, when a photo appeared of the man himself wearing only tight shorts and flexing for the camera. Kisame chuckled, the picture was absolutely ridiculous. The stranger didn't skip a beat though.

"What do you think of Righty and Lefty? Aren't they so pretty?"

Kisame burst out of laughter, “Righty and Lefty”, this man was hilarious in all his seriousness. The stranger, not upset, laughed along with Kisame.

Samehada decided to lay on both of their feet, so the two men had no other choice but to keep chatting. Kisame learned the other man went by Killer Bee, a stage name, he was apparently a very famous rapper. Kisame had never heard of him in Kiri but he didn't say anything. They discovered they both went to the same gym, Bee to train as a boxer and Kisame to keep himself in shape for rowing. They suddenly got interrupted in their discussion by a loud bark.

They turned toward the sound, a small boy with crimson hair was desperately trying to hold the leash of an angry Shiba Inu. The man, who was apparently the kid's father, yelled at them both. The kid seemed to be on the verge of crying and the father grabbed the leash and his son by the hand to yank them both in the opposite direction. The reason for the dog's anger turned out to be a family with another dog.

"Oh you don't say, I know I knew them yeah!" Said Bee, pointing at the blond-haired man accompanied by a red-haired woman, a blond-haired kid and very fox like dog.

"Ah?"

"Yeah it's Namikaze Minato and his wife Uzumaki Kushina yo!"

"How do you know them?"

"They're famous yo! If you know the dog show!"

Killer Bee informed him that the Uzumakis had been trying for generations to get their breed of dog recognized, despite said breed being clearly related more to foxes than dogs. They resumed their chatting, joking about foxes when something, well someone caught Kisame's eyes.

A slouched man, with an improbable haircut, wearing a scarf over his mouth despite the warm weather. But most importantly the man was surrounded by a bunch of dogs. Seven hold by leashes and one in a baby carrier to be exact. Kisame stopped talking, feeling hypnotized by the strange man. Following his gaze Killer Bee squealed.

"It's Hatake Kakashi and Pakkun yo! I can't believe I'm seeing them at the show!"

Killer Bee stood up and waved at the man. Kakashi turned toward them and gave them a peace sign. It had Bee gasping in delight. Kisame felt like he had missed something.

"And... Uh what's so special about this man?"

For the next 10 minutes, Bee overflowed Kisame with information about Kakashi and Pakkun, in the form of an enka ballad that would've certainly won a grammy if it had been recorded. Kakashi was one of the best dog educators around. He had won many prizes in various competitions. His star dog was the old pug named Pakkun in the baby carrier. Kisame didn't feel at all impressed by the slouched man but didn't say anything. Killer Bee seemed so enthusiastic… It would have been unfair to ruin his fun.

Once again, they got interrupted by loud barks. A woman accompanied with her daughter and son, was handling three gigantic Alaskan Malamut, and her daughter two Huskies. The son, barely eight, was holding a big Pyrenean Mountain puppy that he soon, wouldn't be able to carry anymore. This time Bee didn't have to explain anything. Kisame immediately recognized the red fangs tattooed on the mother's face. The Inuzukas.

"Do..."

"Yes, the Inuzukas... They're famous even in Kiri" said Kisame with a grin.

Indeed, the Inuzukas were famous dog breeders. The pedigree of their dogs was widely renowned, and their puppies could get extremely expensive.

"I bet they're going to get all the prizes! The other candidates must be in crises!"

Kisame laughed, Bee was certainly right. After chatting again for a few minutes, Samehada was getting fidgety so the two guys decided to walk around the fair, to see what was on sale. They stopped at an accessory shop, Bee wanted to see the leashes, he needed a new one for Gyūki.

Kisame was comparing different collar fabrics, when he grabbed a leather one at the same time as another person. He looked up and to his great surprise, the hand holding the other end of the collar belonged to his coworker Kakuzu.

"Oh, hello Kakuzu-san, are you looking for things for your cats? They have a stand over there!" Greeted Kisame pointing at another shop, remembering his co-coworker had once showed him a picture of his five cats.

"Thank you Hoshigaki, but I'm not looking for cat's supplies." Answered the other man in a stern voice.

Before Kisame could say anything else, another man jumped toward Kakuzu with a great smile. He was much younger, his hair was bleached and slicked back, he was wearing a leather coat with a fur cap. He was holding two collar, a black one with rhinestones and a pink one with spikes.

"Oi Kakuzu! What do you think of these? Which one would suit me better?" He asked loudly, barely acknowledging Kisame.

"How much are they?" Grumbled the older man.

"Ow come on it's my birthday!"

"Right take them both, but I don't want to hear you until tonight!"

"Thank you!" Said the man in a high-pitched voice, kissing Kakuzu's cheek.

Kisame could hardly believe what he had just witnessed. Kakuzu nodded at him, keeping his poker face and left Kisame as if nothing happened. Killer Bee, having seen all the scene, asked:

"What a funny duo... Are they friends of yours, yo?"

"Co-worker..." A minute passed "I didn't know about... This..."

"It's okay... I mean... To each their own yeah..."

"Yeah..." Another minute passed "I'm not into... Whatever..."

The two men looked at each other awkwardly. Suddenly Bee blurted out:

"Wanna go outside with me? To grab a little coffee?"

"Uh yeah sure why not, sounds fun..."

"Let's go yo."

"Yeah."

And so they left, Samehada happily strutting along the two men.
