Surprise

Summary:

Kyle takes the opportunity while Eric is away on a business trip for CBAA (Crack Baby Athletic Association) to clean the whole house. While it's not unusual for him to do this on Sundays, this Sunday it's easier as he doesn't have to kick Eric out of the house. It's always easier to clean the house when he isn't there. But after cleaning the whole house doesn't take him the whole day that it normally does he has to fill his time with something. Trying not to think about the fact that Eric is due back tomorrow. Or is he?

Notes:

Look I love CBAA and I think this is a great episode but I really don't care about the business side of everything. I just really care about the relationship between Kyle and Cartman. So I leaned into that here. I focused on the domestic side of everything. So you get a good chunk of words that are basically just Kyle thinking about his life as he cleans and then some cute domestic Kyman aka the best.
Also, can we just admire the fact that I came up with a title from the top of my brain instead of just getting the title of a song?

Work Text:

Kyle pushed up his sleeves, ready to get to work. It was Sunday, one of his two days off from work. Sundays were the day that he spent cleaning the entire house. And today was, of course, no exception.

Today was in fact the best day to do cleaning, as Eric was still on his business trip, meaning he had the house all to himself. And of course, he loved Eric, they’ve been business partners since elementary school and dating since when they were in high school. But it was always easier to clean the house without Eric around.

Normally he would kick him out of the house for the day and clean the house top to bottom. Not that it was that difficult of a job. They could have just hired someone to clean for them, but Kyle preferred to do it all himself. They had hired someone for a week when they first moved in when they were 18.

The house itself was fully in Eric’s name, having been bought before Kyle himself would have been able to sign for it. It was supposed to be Eric’s own gift to himself for his birthday. But it ended up being a semi-birthday gift for the two of them.

Although Eric made it very clear that it was a gift for himself and not at all for Kyle like he always did. But Eric had still gotten him a pretty excellent gift that year, a new phone. He still had his old phone at that point that he’d had since middle school. He was glad that he had the new one, although he was still reluctant to get a new one even if he probably should after having this one for a few years.

He started off his cleaning in their shared room, the easiest room in the house to clean. They spent little time in here, having an entire house that was their own. Meaning that their room was the easiest to clean.

Vacuuming the floors and then grabbing the sheets, pillowcases, and their blanket off the bed and putting them out to be washed before moving on to the living room. He would come back once everything was clean to make the bed, even if it would trash the moment that he went to bed.

The living room was probably where they spent the most time outside of sleeping. Almost the entire day of Saturday was spent in the living room watching whatever and not thinking about work for one day.

Then Kyle would spend Sunday cleaning and he doesn’t really know what Eric does on Sundays as long as he’s out of the house.

He did the same basic cleaning as the bedroom, although he had to do a little more. Mostly just picking up and putting things where they belonged before vacuuming, but this week was fairly easy as it had been just him most of the week. And he was very much the cleaner of the two of them.

So he didn’t have to do much more than vacuuming this week before moving on to the kitchen where he cleaned all the counters and swept and mopped the floors.

Halfway through the day and he was staring around the house, everything already clean. He sighed, having forgotten that he had to do significantly less cleaning around the house when it was just him. And it wasn’t like this was anything new. Out of the two of them, Eric was going on many more business trips than he was.

Eric had always been the one to go around and talk to people, whether that was the expecting mothers or any business partners. They were lucky they had never actually accepted the deal they had gotten years ago for EA games. The game had become rather popular in recent years and so it was rather good for their own business.

But of course, this meant that someone had to go out and talk to the other teams and such. As Eric was the best at convincing others about things, he was almost always the one to go.

Every time, however, that Sunday came around when it was just him in the house, it always surprised him when it didn’t take that long for him to be done. He sighed, going back to the living room to turn on the tv. He turned on Netflix, flipping through. He wasn’t as into tv and movies as Eric was, but it was a good way to pass the time mindlessly.

And he needed some way to distract himself. This business trip was one of the longest that Eric had been on in a while, having been a month-long. But the month was almost over and he was supposed to be back tomorrow sometime after Kyle would get back from work.

He thought that he would have the entire day distracted for him with cleaning, but of course, that did not happen. But at least unlike the weeks preceding it, he didn’t have to wait long.

Tomorrow would be easy enough to get through. He would have work to distract him. All he had to do was get through today so that he could work tomorrow and then come home, hopefully to Eric, before getting back.

He put on a mindless reality show, figuring it was a good way to not have to think, and pulled out his phone, scrolling through things. He followed Stan on Instagram even though they didn’t actually talk and hadn’t talked really since Kyle joined the CBAA. The last time that they had talked at all was probably before Kyle changed over to online school to do CBAA full time before high school.

He was brought out of his thoughts by a knock at the door. He looked over in the door's direction before getting up to answer it. Because he had been expecting to be busy cleaning the entire day, he wasn’t expecting anyone.

He looked through the peephole, fully prepared to grab the baseball bat they kept next to the door. You could never be too cautious, but he quickly opened the door after seeing who it was.

“Eric,” Kyle said, rushing to give his boyfriend a hug. When they finally disconnected he asked, “I thought you were supposed to be back tomorrow?”

“Well, I was going to be,” Eric said walking in as Kyle moved to let the other inside, dragging his suitcase behind him, the same one he’s been using since high school, “but we got everything done yesterday so I spent all day flying. I thought about telling you but I thought it would be better as a surprise.”

“You came just in time to ruin all of my hard work of cleaning,” Kyle said, following Eric into their bedroom. “I finished cleaning around an hour ago.”

“Perfect,” Eric said, making Kyle roll his eyes.

“So how did everything go? Did everything go great for us?” Kyle asked, changing the subject. That was the good thing about living with the one who was going on business trips. You always got to know how the company was doing the moment they came back. Everyone else, on the other hand, gets to know on Monday.

“I mean it was boring, and it didn’t help that Butters made everything go about a million times slower. He was asking questions every five minutes. But we got almost everything we wanted. We got some pretty talented players this year.” Eric said as he unpacked his stuff. “How was everything here?”

“Fine. Kind of boring. Quite a lot of paperwork and of course the normal drama.” Kyle said, “Nothing really special.”

“Just tell me you didn’t catch anyone fucking in the break or meeting room,” Eric said and Kyle shook his head with a laugh.

“No, no, although I might have been okay with it. Because then at least the tension would have been gone. Seriously, its ridiculous how much sexual tension there is in the office some days. You would expect a camera to be around a corner trying to get some glimpse at it.” Kyle said, leaning back, his arms across his chest.

“Who was it this time?” Eric asked. He was always more interested in office drama than Kyle was. Kyle just wanted to get his job done, not have to worry about who was hooking up with who. Maybe it was just the fact that he hadn’t had to worry about any of that in quite a few years. Although even when he was single, he didn’t much care for it all.

“Just the same thing between Clyde and Craig. Seriously, they’ve been friends for years and they are still walking around each other.” Kyle said rolling his eyes, “I just want them to be done with all of this so that they can get on to doing their damn jobs.”

“I mean neither of us has room to talk on that front,” Eric said and Kyle glared at him.

“That is much different. We were enemies for a year and then worked together still as enemies and slowly it changed from enemies to friends and then we got together, we didn’t have the same walking around each other that these two do.” Kyle said, to which Eric shrugged.

“Whatever you want to say, babe,” Eric said, before changing the subject. “I’m assuming that was it, though?”

“Yeah,” Kyle said, allowing the subject to change. He didn’t really want to discuss this. It would have been a dumb argument although most of their arguments were dumb, “Nothing really happened. Everyone else can probably tell you more about what was happening with them. I was mostly dealing with numbers and math all day.”

“And that’s why I hired you in the first place to do all the math shit that I couldn’t do,” Eric said, finally closing the suitcase as he put away the last of his clothes.

“Yeah right. We both know that you mainly picked me for doing accounting because I’m Jewish and you were an antisemite.” Kyle said, rolling his eyes.

Eric was quiet for a moment before shrugging. “I mean that might have influenced me in the beginning but it was an excellent choice clearly.”

“I don’t disagree obviously I love what I do but you really shouldn’t pretend that you weren’t influenced by anti-Semitism,” Kyle said, following Eric out of the bedroom. Although he went into the kitchen, figuring that it was about time to start dinner if they wanted to have it in time.

Once Eric had put the suitcase away, he sat at the island of their kitchen and the two continued to talk about whatever, not staying on a particular topic for long.

It was a pleasant way to spend an evening after being away from each other for so long.
