Chapter Text

The world is definitely a strange one.

Ocie is used to it, though, she’s grown up in it, after all. But why is it so strange, you may ask? Well, here people have powers. No, not powers like being extremely good at something or having authority over something. Powers like magic. Powers like the ability to talk to animals or controlling fire.

And sure, maybe some people don’t have powers, but there’s an unlikely chance of you meeting one without.

Luckily, Ocie is one of those with powers. Her power is hydrokinesis, the ability to control water. Pretty cool, right? At least one of the stronger ones, unlike one that can turn your own head into a cactus. (Seriously though, she once met the guy and let me just tell you, he was very prickly.)

But let’s move on from powers and stop at the city of which we’re focused on. Mycelius.
A big city, known for its large mushroom shaped buildings, located in the country, Heichempi. If you want to meet most of Heichempi's top heroes, here’s the place. But, of course, if there’s top heroes, there’s also top villains.

Which is why Ocie is currently coughing due to smoke, while bits of rubble are falling around her.

Honestly, she just wanted to have a nice trip to the mall, get some new clothes or something, but now there’s sounds of people screaming all around her and she’s honestly a bit irritated. But she’s, of course, mostly scared. I mean, who wouldn’t be scared if villains suddenly attacked the mall, in which you’re shopping, and began causing chaos?

Everyone’s running away from the sounds of destruction and the amount of people almost resemble the wildebeests from that one scene in The Lion King. It’d be funny if Ocie wasn’t about to feel like Mufasa.

She tries to dodge to the side, but wasn’t quite fast enough and she feels herself get knocked over by someone pushing past her. She lets out a surprised yell, bracing herself by putting up her hands in front of her before hitting the ground.

She lets out groans of pain as she feels feet kick into her side, some people almost tripping over her. It's the fault of those idiots for knocking her over, but damn will this leave some harsh bruises for the next week or so.

She manages to crawl away from the storm of humans, looking around the clearing wildly to edge out any shapes or forms of either heroes or villains. She narrows her eyes in annoyance as she can’t spot either.

Whatever! She can hear where most of the destruction is coming from, so first things first, she has to get away from that direction. And so she does, getting up and following behind and a bit beside the flock of people that are swarming towards what she guesses is the mall exit. She does stay a good meter or so away from the others, though, to not get knocked over again.

The smoke filling the air makes her eyes water and she quickly closes them, coughing a bit.

She feels herself suddenly bumping into another person and looks up to see the swarm of citizens has abruptly stopped- And, surprisingly, quieted down.

“What’s going on? Why did all of you stop?” She questions, looking around.

“Shh! You need to stay quiet, they’re here.” A citizen beside shushes her, whispering as they point over someone’s head to a statue of a mushroom with a silhouette of someone standing on top of it.

Ocie narrows her eyes to see through the raging smoke and get a closer look, and quickly realizes that’s one of the top villains. Sunfire.

Her eyes widen and she freezes in place, staring at the villain. There’s been a lot of talk about what his power could possibly be, mostly so the heroes know what they’re up against. Some say it’s telekinesis, due to his ability to move objects as long as he’s touched it, while others say it’s Wither Touch, due to the fact there’s been people he’s touched who’s skin slowly began withering away and fell over in sudden weakness.

Whatever it is, though, Ocie’s scared. He could choose to kill all of them at an instant and they would be unable to do anything about it, but he seems to just be standing there.

Perhaps talking to another villain, planning out their doom right there and then? Ocie shakes the thought away, no need to be thinking negatively now, all she has to look for is a hero.

People are shuffling awkwardly, obviously waiting for any sign of being saved or being attacked. A child can be heard crying in the crowd, some rocks are being kicked back and forth and some dare speak together in the presence of this feared, dangerous top villain.

Suddenly, the crash of a window sounds and some people yelp in surprise.

Sunfire quickly focuses his gaze to where the sound came from, getting into a defensive stance. Others follow his gaze and murmur in surprise when there’s nothing to be seen other than some shards of broken glass.

“Where are you?! I know you’re in here somewhere!” Sunfire yells out in the mall, his eyes searching rapidly across every inch and corner of it.

Ocie, herself, is looking around, wondering who the hell decided it was a good idea to crash into the new territory of a villain and then hide. It’s probably either a cowardly hero, an idiotic vigilante or a civilian who ended up the wrong place and at the wrong time.

If it’s none of those options, you might as well punch me in the face, she scoffs in her head.

She doesn’t have a lot of time to chew on her thoughts, though, ‘cause suddenly a yell from Sunfire echoes out and you can hear the sound of impact as he hits the ground.

And there he is, the Chargebolt on top of the statue of a mushroom, looking victorious that he’s now re-claimed the mall for the heroes.

And who is this Chargebolt guy, you may ask? Well, he’s the number one hero, yeah. Let that sink in. What a surprise, huh. Not really, but moving on, Ocie would say he’s definitely got a power that’s helpful for melee attacks. It’s like shapeshifting, but not quite.

He can basically shapeshift his muscles, which sounds weird, but is super helpful. For example, making his muscles be super strong in his legs so he can run faster.

Ocie’s honestly disappointed that she didn’t get to see him hit Sunfire off of the statue, that’d both look hilarious and cool. Not that Chargebolt is that cool or anything.

Look, Ocie’s feelings about him are… mixed, to say the least.
Of course, he’s great since he’s the number one hero and all that, but he just seems a bit too into the fame he gets, y’know? She can’t say much however, she would probably sunbathe in at least some fame if she had any, but that’s just normal to do, right?

Anyways, right now is no time to figure out human psychology and how much we’re up our own asses or not, right now is the time to figure out whether you should skidaddle the fuck out of here or wait for the oh so glorious number one hero to finish his oh so glorious job.

Yep, it’s option number two. Sadly enough, you can’t leave the villain vs. heroes play area until you’ve been checked to be safe enough to go home, which, reasonable, but also annoying. Honestly, shouldn’t the civilians be able to walk outside, instead of being in the middle of the chaos, so they won’t get more hurt?

So Ocie is currently standing at the back of the crowd, watching the fight play out and (impatiently) waiting for Chargebolt to win, so she can get home. She knows that Chargebolt will win, he always does. He’s won against Sunfire before, he can do it again.

Other windows crash and more heroes arrive on the scene, some looking for the villains, while others are looking for any severely hurt citizens in the large hoard of people.

There’s the sound of a harsh clank and someone screams “Hold your breath!” just before thick, blue smoke fills the area of which Sunfire used to be in.

Those near the fight begin to cough, waving their hands and moving away from the smoke. Everybody stares at the smoke, waiting for any sign of movement. It’s been a good two or so minutes and the smoke finally clears, showing only Chargebolt standing over a splatter of blood, that’s definitely not his.

At the sign of no villains, the mall breaks out in happy cheers and thanks to the hero who’s seemed to have chasen the villains away.

Honestly, he seems pretty okay, not a big sign of wounds other than the fact that a spot on his arm is blackened, some of the skin falling off. He doesn’t seem to mind it though, smiling at the fifty or so people who're basically hand-feeding praises to him.

Chargebolt takes it though, (of course he does) and begins to make his way around the crowd of civilians to check up on those who haven't been checked over already, doing his little health-check procedure.

It’s quite easy to track where he’s at in the mall, due to the sound of fangirls losing their mind once he gets close. Ocie closes her eyes, mentally preparing herself for this interaction as she feels the sound getting closer and louder.

“Ma’am?” A man pokes her shoulder and her eyes open wide as she nearly jumps out of her skin.

She quickly turns to the side, coming face to face with Chargebolt who’s staring at her. A dark green mask is covering the lower half of his face, making Ocie’s ability to gouge out his expression fail.

“Yes?” She says, crossing her arms, making sure to let him know that she is very done with this situation.

“Do you have any wounds, do you feel sick or is there any other way I can help you?” He asks, counting a finger with each question.

“What are you, a doctor?” Ocie snarks.

“No… But I’m a hero.” Chargebolt stares at her and an awkward silence between them begins to drag out.

She feels herself flush in embarrassment and she turns her head away, gritting out, “I’m fine.” as she avoids eye contact with the hero.

“Thank you, ma’am. Have a great day.” Ocie thinks it’s weird how he sounds like he actually means it, even though she was clearly being hostile, but she couldn’t care less. Chargebolt walks away quickly, the sound of fangirls picking up again.

She decides this is probably her que to fuck off and she trudges towards the exit of the mall to head home.

-

She looks up at the apartment building, then back at the door and unlocking it. She opens it slowly, letting out a relieved sigh when she sees nobody inside it. While the apartment building is in a fairly good state, that doesn’t mean it’s got no bad people in it. It’s not that uncommon to find either drunk or people high on drugs inside it, so you always gotta be wary when going inside.

She hastily walks up the stairs to the floor on which she lives, the fourth floor. When she’s finally there, she stops in front of the door and tries to listen through it. Ocie winces as she hears a small crash and sounds of ruckus from inside.

“You fucking bastard! How could you?!” Mawk’s voice. He’s clearly agitated and his voice is full of betrayal as he’s screaming at someone.

“It was for the greater good, I had no choice!” And that’s Bubolo, who’s voice is a mix of defense and grief. So they’re clearly arguing about something bad.

Ocie quickly unlocks the door, turns the handle and pushes the door open. “What’s going on?!” She exclaims, frantically looking around until she finally catches sight of Mawk and Bubolo, who’re… Standing beside the fridge in the kitchen.

Mawk’s hand is fisted around Bubolo’s collar, practically growling, while the other is holding up his hands in a placating way. As soon as Ocie finishes her sentence, Mawk whips his head over to look at her.

“He ate the last god damn piece of cake I was saving for a rainy day!” Mawk seethes, shaking Bubolo a bit as if to further prove his point.

“I didn’t do it out of my own free will, I promise! It had some kind of mind control power!” Bubolo quickly defends himself, trying to get out of Mawk’s harsh grip.

“Shut up, you lying glutton!” Mawk points a threatening finger to Bubolo’s face, focusing back onto him.

Pause scene, who are these people? Well, this is Bubolo and Mawk, Ocie’s two brothers. They’re her world, part of what makes her whole, even if they can be a bit chaotic sometimes.

Bubolo, commonly called Bubs, is the middle sibling. He works as a hero! Which is great, and Ocie’s very proud of him. His power is geo-thermokinesis, the ability to control lava. She remembers when his power first sprouted and he was unable to properly control it, their house looked like a literal dumpster fire.

Mawk is… Admittedly normal. He’s the youngest sibling and he works at a cheap retail store, or at least that’s what he tells her. His power is aerokinesis, a pretty basic power that just allows him to send gusts of wind and such. Not that there’s any problem with that! It can be quite helpful a lot of times.

Together, they’ve grown up and figured out ways to survive in this world of good versus evil.

“Ociee! Save me!” Bubs whines, reaching a hand out towards his sister.

“Hmm, let me think about that,” She pretended to think for a moment. “How about, no.” She grins, laughing as her brother’s face morphs into one of betrayal. “Have fun!” She waves her hand, walking towards her bedroom.

There’s sounds of what Ocie would like to call Brotherly Bonding™ in the background as she walks down the hallway and opens her door. The noise becomes a bit muffled as she goes inside and shuts the door behind her, making her let out a sigh. Sometimes they can be so tiring.

Not as tiring as being in the middle of a villain attack, however, she doesn’t think anything can beat that.

Ocie sits down by her desk, chewing on her cheek as she lets her thoughts run wild, a lot has happened today, after all.

Maybe that hero Chargebolt isn’t that bad, after all.
