   Summary

   She has to go back over a thousand years to reach even a fuzzy and barely-recalled memory of gentleness.

   Her mother’s hands twisting and untangling her hair, looping and braiding it into some elaborate Asgardian style. Sylvie remembers bristling at the entire process — it took so long and was all so unnecessary.

   She can never quite figure out why that is the one memory that stuck. Love and touch, but barely tolerated.
