Find Me Again -KK

Work Text:

“Superboy! Look out!"

Before he could turn, you launched yourself forward and knocked away the robot that was heading in his direction. Sure, he was practically invincible but these were not any normal robots. They were stronger than normal and you had no one to thank but Lex Luthor.

"Thanks, babe!” He called and punched one hard enough its head spun around before collapsing to the floor.

With a huff, you threw a dagger at another that approached you. “I told you, don’t call me that on the field!” You hissed. Looking over his shoulder, you saw several come at the two of you and you gave Superboy a grin.

“Want to try that new move we were working on?”

Looking behind him, Superboy gave you a similar grin. “I wish you asked me that last night.” He winked before picking you up and throwing you at the group of robots. With a laugh, you jumped off their heads and one by one stabbed them in their weak spots with your sword.

Superboy had just taken out a group of bots on his own and it was just you two standing there looking at each other covered in grease and oil. The both of you were breathing heavily from the physical extension on your bodies.

“Should we go see if your best friend has figured out how to stop the monstrous thing that dear old dad of yours made?”

Superboy gave you an unamused expression and crossed his arms. “Sometimes I wonder why I put up with you."

You walked over and kissed his cheek. "Because I am the only one who can joke about Lex being your dad and it’s actually funny.”

The look on his face faded as he smiled at you. “You’re lucky you’re cute,” He said. Kon picked you up and flew the both of you over to where Red Robin was with Wonder Girl and Kid Flash.

“Anything bird brain?” You asked as you landed with Superboy next to you. You walked over and looked at the circuit board he was hacking away at to try and stop the large device from spinning around menacingly.

“Now really isn’t the time for nicknames, Themis. If I can’t get this thing to stop a whole lot of people are going to get hurt,” Red Robin snapped, clearly stressed from the task at hand.

This immediately took the humor out of your attitude - he was right, people could get hurt. While Superboy kept the onslaught of robots away from you with Wonder Girl and Kid Flash, you worked with Red Robin on trying to find a way to get it to stop.

“Red, this is a giant rip in the time stream. If we don’t stop this, we could end up living with the dinosaurs or worse 80s fashion trends,” You commented. Using your powers of the manipulation of time and space, you could see that this was going to end badly. Maybe, there was something that you can do to make it slow down.

Your powers were tricky, you could control both space and time but there was a very fine line you had to walk. Too much of one thing, and you could tip the balance and throw the entire universe in a permanent time-loop or swallow it all with a black hole. It was why the team called you Themis, after the goddess of balance and justice. One tip of the scales and everything would be thrown off balance.

But maybe that’s what you needed to do.

Tip the scales to balance it out.

Red Robin caught the look in your eyes and immediately stopped what he was doing. “No, that’s not even a thought I wanna consider,” he shook his head.

"Red, this might be the only way.” You answered taking a few steps back. Superboy heard your conversation and quickly turned to look at you while pushing back several robots.

“What might be the only way?” He asked, worry starting to fill him. Kon didn’t like the look on your face, or Robin’s.

The last part of his sentence was drowned out by the time-displacing machine getting faster, so fast that it was starting to suck in small debris.

“She wants to balance it out to stop it!” Red cried, blocking the debris from hitting him in the face. “If she does that we could lose her!"

Hearing his words Superboy flew over to you and took your hands, "Don’t even think about it, I can’t lose you Y/N,” he pleaded. There was a desperate look on his face - but there was no time to think twice about this.

“Kon, what other choices do we have? I’m the only one who has even a remote chance of stopping this. You can’t fly fast enough to counter this even if Cassie was helping you!"

"That doesn’t mean you try to take care of it all on your own!” He shouted. “Don’t you understand what it could do to you, to everyone else if you fail?"

"I have to try,” you cupped his cheek as the three of you tried to keep from getting sucked into the slow-growing time portal behind you. “You have to let me go, Kon, please.”

He shook his head and held your hands as tight as he could. “No, you are the most important person in my life and I am not letting you go.”

The portal was getting stronger, Cassie and Bart were a ways off hanging onto a street lamp trying to avoid getting pulled in as the robots all started to get sucked into who knows where.

You, Kon, and Tim were all lifted off of your feet as Tim shot his grapple hook latching onto a building. Quickly, you and Kon grabbed onto him to avoid being sucked in yourselves.

One of Kon’s hands held tightly to you while his other held your hand to keep you from being pulled away from him. “Sweetheart, please take my hand. We’ll get out of this, we’ll find another way,” he begged.

You simply shook your head, both you and Tim knew that at this point there was no other way. It had to be you, and there was no telling what would happen to you once you tried. “This is a time portal, find me again Kon.” You said softly as your gloved hand slowly slid out of his.

You could see the tears he was fighting back but he gave you a nod. “I’ll find you again, I promise."

A soft smile graced your face as you fought back tears of your own. You didn’t know what awaited you on the other side, but Kon made a promise to you and he never broke his promises. Your hand finally slipped out of his and Kon watched as you were sucked into the portal.

Once you were close enough, you put your hands together and began to generate enough time energy to counteract the machine. The last thing you saw was your favorite pair of blue eyes before everything went white.

Everything fell back to the ground with a loud thud as Kon stared at the spot you had disappeared into. He tried to fight back the tears, but Tim knew him too well. Dropping to his knees beside him, Tim placed his hand on his best friend’s shoulder.

"Time is a tricky thing, we’ll find her.” was all he said before Kon broke into tears with Cassie and Bart watching him from the side.

><

For months the four of them searched for you, running your face and name through database after database to find you in the past or the present. Like Tim had said, time was a tricky thing, they all had a strong feeling that you were alive somewhere but they had no idea when.

Kon had enlisted the help of everyone he knew, even going as far as asking Tim to get Bruce’s help because he had been trapped in time before. The only thing Bruce had said was that if you were in the past and wanted to be found, then you would leave clues for them to get to.

One by one, the hope dwindled in the team slowly accepted the fact that you were thrown somewhere into the future. They feared that you were thrown so far into the future that you outlived them all.

But Kon never lost his hope, you were the love of his life. There was never anyone else for him but you, and he knew the glances that the others gave him but Kon promised to find you and would never stop until he did.

It had been officially a year since you disappeared, and the grief was almost suffocating in the tower. Kon had to get out, if he didn’t he would have done some renovations and made brand new windows where there weren’t any previously. With his leather jacket on, he flipped his glasses down as he walked down the street with his hands in his pockets.

Maybe this mission of his was a failure, he was holding onto a weak sense of hope at this point and wasn’t even sure if he would find you at this point. He had been walking for so long that he hadn’t noticed where his feet had taken him. It was the exact site where you had disappeared into the portal. Every day they checked this exact spot because the likelihood of it opening here in whatever time you ended up in was high.

With a sigh, he kicked rocks as he made his way and sat on the crumbled steps. What was he doing? The chances of you making it out of the portal and living through all of that would be hard if not impossible. If you got trapped far enough in the past, you could have been taken and trialed as a witch and sentenced to death. If you lucked out with time placement, that didn’t mean that whoever found you were nice people; if you didn’t end up in the middle of the ocean that is.

Kon was so lost in his thoughts, he didn’t hear the soft buzzing noise behind him nor did he notice random bits of debris fly past his head. He only noticed what was happening when a large object crashed into him from behind, sending him and it rolling across the ground.

Shaking the dust particles from his hair, Kon looked over at what had hit him and his jaw dropped. He had looked up just in time to see the very portal that had sucked you in from his dreams, close with a lone figure laying on the dirt-covered ground unconscious.

Stumbling, he darted over and rolled the figure over only to see that this figure had the same hair as you. He refused to get his hopes up until he saw your face. Kon knelt there in shock at the sight of your unconscious body in front of him. For so long he pleaded and hoped that you would come back to him, only for you to show up exactly a year later when he went back to the site.

“Tim, get the med bay ready.” He radioed to the team that was still in the tower.

“Kon? What the hell is going on?"

"Don’t ask, just do it!” Kon picked up your limp figure and ran back to the tower. Worry filled him at the sight of you. He was too concerned to even be relieved with joy that you were finally back in his arms. Within minutes, he was carrying you into the med bay ignoring the looks he got from the others as he set you on the bed.

“Kon, is that who I think that is?” Cassie asked, it was clear that she was trying not to sound hopeful but it wasn’t working.

“She came out of the portal not too long ago, I brought her here first.” He explained as he turned to look at his friends.

“We need to check her vitals, it might have felt like five minutes to her but she was in the time stream for a year,” Tim said and got to work with Bart at his side making sure that you were okay. Cassie had to walk herself and Kon out of the room, they would only be in the way if they had stayed.

For the next two hours, he sat outside the med bay waiting for news on your condition. Those seemed to be the longest two hours of his life. Tim walked out and quickly made his way over to Kon and sat next to him.

“She’s perfectly fine, and she should be awake soon.” Tim had done everything he could, but it seemed that you were going to fine either way. “I think you should be the first thing she sees when she wakes up.” He smiled and got up and walked towards the kitchen.

Kon watched him walk away with a smile. How did he end up so lucky to have Tim and the others as his best friends? With a sigh, he got up and walked in. There you were asleep on the bed with a heart monitor next to you. Tim had said that you were perfectly fine, but he probably kept it on to make sure that if something happened they would be alerted.

Taking your small hands in his, he placed a kiss on your cold skin.

He sat at your side for hours, waiting for you to wake up. It was almost past midnight and he was dozing off beside the bed when he felt your hand twitch in his.

“Y/N? Babe?” he asked, suddenly full of energy again.

He watched as you slowly woke your slumber and similar to the last thing you remember seeing, you were met with the sight of his blue eyes only this time they were filled with joy and love.

“You found me.”

Kon smiled at your words. “I promised I would.”
