Jay wasn't entirely enthusiastic about his new job. He's come face to face with death before but this? It was terrifying: worse than many nightmares he has had in the past. Now, he was crawling on the floor, occasionally going through sticky spots. "Great…" He whispered to himself. Jay quickly reminded himself what he was doing and focused on listening to the dancing robot, twirling around the room.
After what felt like forever, the small male made it through Ballora's room into the breaker room. Jay has been ignoring the hand unit ever since the very beginning when it called him a breakfast food. He snorted as he remarked when it happened. "I know I look like a snack but damn!"
Brown hair stuck to Jay's face, irritating him even more. "Bad enough I have to work on my birthday, now I gotta risk my life doing whatever this is," He threw his hand around angrily while stomping around. "No one ever wishes me a happy birthday, I never get anything except a headache! Why can't I have one good birthday!" The male didn't notice the other entity in the room closing in on him, mere inches away before Jay finally turned just enough to see the large pink and white bear looming over him.
There was no initial reaction from the brunette but once it registered after a few seconds, he screamed in fear. Jay wanted to run but his legs betrayed him and stayed rooted in place.
"Ar-Are you the bir-birthday b-boy?!" The bear shouted with joy. Jay didn't respond. "Hello~o?! I can s-s-see you!" Jay panicked, swinging feebly at the bear, trying to make it go away but it didn't even flinch. "Please don't kill me!" The bear laughed, it's voice glitching a bit. "Now wh-why would I do tha-that?!" It bent down to be face to face with the small brunette, ruffling his hair and patting his head, making the males face darken in hue just a bit. "It-It's your s-special da-day! What-What's your nam-me?" it smiled. "It's… it's Jay…" Jay's mind was screaming at him to run but he was being reassured by being acknowledged on his birthday.
"My na-me is Freddy! I don't kn-know where my friend wen-nt, I'm sure he'll sho-ow up so-oon." Freddy gave Jay the microphone he had before sitting on the ground in front of him. "Tell m-me, how old are y-you now?" Jay laughed nervously; being put in the spotlight gave him extreme anxiety, making him clam up. Freddy seemed to notice. "Hey," The bear got up and carefully removed the microphone from the trembling hands. "It's ok-okay, it's just m-me! There's no n-eed to be so sc-scared!" Freddy said in the most gentle voice, it was almost a hushed whisper.
Jay took a deep breath and exhaled some doubts he had. "I… I'm 20." Freddy made an exasperated sound to match his face. It made the shaking male laugh fondly. "No one really cares much about me, to be honest," Jay began walking to the breaker panel, actually doing his job for the night. "People usually find me super annoying when they find out I'm trans." He pointed to a button he had pinned to his work shirt.
"What does tr-trans mean?" Freddy asked curiously, moving to be beside Jay who glanced around before letting his eyes rest on Freddy's. "Well, I was once a girl, right? I was quite happy being a girl until I was 16. I told my mother I was having second guesses of how I feel and she was NOT happy when I told her," Jay snorted. "'If you feel that way, I don't want you anywhere near me. You can go hang around your father, I don't want you to hang around me.' Even after I got the surgery done, and I got my testosterone shots: she still called me a girl, which felt very rude." Jay explained, not realizing he was babbling but Freddy still seemed to understand just fine.
"So-o, you were a gi-girl, but now you're a b-boy?" The male nodded his head frantically. "Yes! You got it!" Jay's smile was ear to ear; he was proud he taught someone about what a trans person is. Freddy giggled happily, picking Jay up and hugging him, not too tightly though. "I'm proud of you, Freddy! Not many people have the capability of understanding such a simple concept. But you do have to put me down now. I'm hopefully done for the night," He said with a hint of sadness in his voice. Freddy gently let Jay down and lowered his head in anguish.
"But I'll be back again tomorrow." Jay sang, making Freddy's head pop back up and his eyes light up in such happiness. "Y-Yay! Well, I ca-can't wait to see you ag-gain! Stay sa-safe!" They both waved to each other before Jay departed, completely unsure what was going to happen now. Hopefully he could get home and go to sleep.
But that was only hoping…
