Threes A Company

Summary:

Everything changes once Morticia and Gomez announce a baby is on the way. Wednesday hates that nothing is the same. Deciding to run away, she resides in the persons home her mother hates the most… her aunt Ophelia.

Notes:

Alright… I literally don’t know what to say. I had a quick idea, but decided to turn it into a short comedic and angsty story…and now here we are. This digs a little deeper on the children’s feelings about the baby, since in the second movie they don’t like the baby and try to kill him lol. As well as Ophelias role in being an aunt, and why she’s so apart from the family.

Chapter 1: It Is What It Is

Chapter Text

Looking out into the cemetery, nerves settled into Morticia’s stomach as the night approached. The worry of negative responses gnawed at her insides; mostly the reaction of her darling children. It was so easy to tell Gomez, having already imagined his reaction. Obviously, he was ecstatic, as she pictured...maybe even a little more. She had no idea another baby would excite him so much, he was already suggesting names, and wanting to uncover the nursery to have it ready for when the baby came, despite her being barely two months pregnant. It melted her heart when he would kiss her and then their baby in the morning and stroke her flat stomach that was yet to swell.

It was understandable for him to be the most excited and content about it, as well as mama. She always loved children, especially her grandchildren. Throughout their marriage, she would always make comments about them having more and more children. Although Gomez and she were very family oriented, they wanted one boy and one girl, to keep it even. They wanted to spoil them, and be very attentive to them. Having many children would mean never being able to focus on only one child. Therefore they could feel neglected, and it would do more harm than good, having many children.

“What's wrong?” gently asked Gomez as he hugged her from behind. His arms circling around her stomach, where their baby was growing.

“I’m nervous,” she admitted, enjoying his caress. She sighed as she felt his lip along her neck, and felt being held tighter against him.

“Don’t be, I’m sure they’ll be okay. It’ll take some time to get used to, but I know they’ll come around,” he reassured as he rested his chin on her shoulder.

“I know. But I want them to want to come around, not because we ask them to,” she responded

“Well that’s a little more difficult.” he sighed. “But either way, I never took those two to be jealous,” he shook his head.

Morticia huffed a laugh.

“Are you kidding? They’re constantly competing for our affection, and arguing over who’s our favorite.” she fondly shook her head.

“Ha, I guess you’re right.”Gomez chuckled. “I wonder who they inherited their jealousy from,” his tone was sincere and genuinely curious.

“Yes I wonder too,” she said with sarcasm and an eye roll. He nipped her neck in retaliation, earning a moan from her. Wanting to hear her again, he continued down upwards.

“Later darling, we need to go downstairs,” she sternly said, not wanting to go further...yet.

He groaned, but complied either way. “Fine, but you owe me.” he hissed.

“Very well,” she smiled. Arm in arm, they both left their balcony and continued to walk to the living room.

Wednesday knew something was wrong. For the past week, her parents had been acting a lot more disturbing than usual, and grandmama had been more giddy and talkative with her mother. Which wasn’t too odd, but when they would stop talking whenever she or Pugsley entered a room, it raised her suspicions a lot. She needed to know what was going on in the house, it was her job to know everything. How else would she protect her family from psychopaths, and backstabbing accountants?

Pugsley on the other hand, hadn’t noticed until she brought it up. He was always more clueless than his older sister. On various occasions they tried to eavesdrop on conversations, but failed; their mother was always one step ahead of them. They respected that, but it also annoyed them. Why couldn’t she just indulge them in their curiosity?

The family patiently waited in the living room, as instructed by Morticia. It seemed as if Uncle Fester had no idea as well as, Thing and Lurch. But Mama, on the other hand, was buzzing with excitement, it was irritating.

Wednesday’s eyebrows creased as she saw her mother and father in a corner gently arguing. Morticia kept shaking her head, and knotted her hands together in front of her, while Gomez held her shoulders to attempt to make her look him in the eye.

“What do you think this is about?” whispered Pugsley pulling Wednesday out of her muse.

“I haven’t the slightest idea. But I do know it’s something big,” to emphasize her last sentence, she craned her head towards the doors, their parents right outside.

“Maybe we're moving?” he shrugged.

“We can’t move.” she rolled her eyes. “There's a vault underground, and not to mention our entire family buried in our backyard.”

“Ohh yeah, I forgot about that.” Pugsley nodded.

Everyone looked towards the doors, as the patriarch and matriarch entered. They stood in the front, facing everyone; shoulder to shoulder.

“Why are we here?” asked Wednesday, cutting right to the chase.

“Right, so the reason why we called a family meeting is because…” Morticia started but hesitated, as Wednesday stared at her with no expression. “We… wanted to share some news.” she pressed her lips together.

“Some rather, exciting news,” Gomez added as he took a hold of Morticia’s hand. She smiled in return; in appreciation, he would let her say it, and not rush her.

“Yes, exciting news.” Everyone stared at her, waiting for her to respond. Taking a deep breath, she decided this was ridiculous and shouldn’t be nervous to share such great news. “I’m pregnant.”

Mama happily chuckled and walked over to hold her daughter’s hands, Fester stood and congratulated his brother and sister in law, as well as Lurch and Thing. But Wednesday and Pugsley stood seated.

They both looked at each other, with confused eyes. Wednesday stared at the floor, trying to process what she just heard. Another annoying sibling, she thought. But why? Who would willingly have more children?

Morticia accepted the felicitations but kept looking past everyone to see her children’s reaction. They were quiet, and serious. She would understand, if they were upset at first. It was rather huge news, and it was life altering. They would have another sibling.

She looked at Gomez whose sight was also fixed on the two. They nodded in agreement, saying that they should talk to them privately. The rest of the family understood, and left the parents to talk to their children.

Morticia carefully sat next to Wednesday, while Gomez sat next to Pugsley. They were still pretty deep in thought, and it didn’t seem like they would be happy about it at all.

“What's on your minds?” gently asked Morticia, glancing at Gomez.

“I’m not going to be the youngest anymore.” slowly responded Pugsley. “Does that mean our inheritance won’t be split evenly?”

Gomez chuckled at his son’s light way of taking things. “We haven’t discussed that yet. But I don't think you’ll lose too much.” he teased.

Wednesday rolled her eyes at her stupid brother. There were larger matters at hand, and all he asked about was their inheritance. She could feel her mother’s gaze on her, but didn’t dare lift her head.

“What about you darling?” she slowly reached to take her hand, when Wednesday didn’t snatch it away, she laced their fingers and rested it on her lap.

Wednesday took a deep breath and chose to face her mother. “Why?” was all she could muster.

Both parents swallowed heavily, not knowing what to respond. “Do you mean, why we’re having a baby or…” asked Gomez, which Wednesday nodded to. “Well we, uh,” Gomez shot Morticia a pleading gaze, to take over the conversation. He was never good with confrontation.

“It sort of just happened,” she responded, vaguely. Not wanting to get into details.

Wednesday nodded. She decided she was tired, and wanted to retire to bed. “Well then, I guess it is what it is. Goodnight.” she detached her hand from her mother’s and left them in silence.

It was the first time Wednesday was speechless; numb no, but speechless yes. As she toyed with her doll’s head, she threw it on the floor out of anger and dropped the body on the floor. She didn’t want another sibling. Wasn’t she and Pugsley enough? They never did anything wrong, or misbehaved...too badly; after all, they were still kids. Everything was going to be different, and major changes were bound to happen. She never liked children, she could barely stand kids her age. But babies? They were loud, messy, and annoying.

She was the oldest, which would mean she would be kicked to the side once the baby would arrive. Her parents would deem her old enough to take care of herself and be independent from now on. Which she didn’t entirely mind, but she was still a part of the family, she didn’t want to become invisible to them. Her mother would no longer come in and ask her to join her for tea or to paint her nails. Her attention and love would be directed to the baby from now on.

Her father would be busy tending to her mother, more than usual. She would lose her chess partner, as well as her prank partner. Who else would help her place traps in her uncle’s bedroom? She guessed Pugsley would still be there, but it wasn’t the same. Her relationship with her parents would be ruined or even become nonexistent.

She grimaced at an odd sensation in her chest and stomach; not liking this new feeling, she got under her covers, turned off her lamp, and attempted to fall asleep. Her arms reached her neck, and her eyes drifted close. It was the first time she went to sleep without being tucked in, taking a deep breath she knew she would have to get used to it from now on.

She heard heels clicking, and blurred out voices. She assumed it was her mother, coming to check in on her. Although she appreciated the gesture, she didn’t want to talk about it. She meant what she said, she didn’t need to say more.

Morticia slowly opened the door to her daughter's bedroom, but it was dark, except for a few moon rays shining. She had a pit in her stomach ever since they broke the news to the family. Wednesday’s reaction worried her; she knew how sensitive she really was. She couldn’t go to bed without speaking to her about it. Quietly walking towards her, she seemed to be in deep slumber. She didn’t want to wake her up, so their conversation would have to wait. Leaning to kiss her goodnight, her head slightly shifted. Taking a step back, the back of her heel hit something.

Morticia looked down to pick up whatever the object was; it was Marie Antionette. She frowned seeing Wednesday’s favorite doll on the floor; she would always protect it with her life. She remembered when she almost broke Pugsley’s arm for dropping it. Gently picking it up, she placed it next to her, before retiring to her own bedroom for rest. She hoped she would be able to sleep, with what was going on. Maybe she was exaggerating a little bit, and it wasn’t that big of a deal. Either way, she would find out tomorrow.
