Chapter Text
It was still dawn when Ririka woke up from her already deranged sleep. All night she has been tossing and turning because of the recent clan meeting that she had to attend instead of Kirari. Her twin was on a getaway with Sayaka, celebrating their one year anniversary.
“I could be doing the same right now.” Ririka thought
Her and Mary were going to achieve this milestone in less than a week, but things haven’t been as bright lately. Ririka was busy taking care of her twin’s business and Mary kept finding excuses to avoid their dates whenever Ririka finally had the time. At first she thought of it as a coincidence, their schedules were simply not lining up, but Mary became more and more distant, blaming it all on the stress of graduation.
Ririka checked her phone and was surprised to find 5 missing calls from Mary. She panicked because her mind instantly created the worst case scenarios in which the blonde could be in, but had to take a breath and call her girlfriend back. After 2 rings, Mary finally answered.
- Mary, it’s quite late, did something happen?
- Us, Ririka, us. That’s what keeps fucking happening. Or better said, not happening. I’m tired of being your second choice, something you enjoy only when you want to. she shouted, not making any effort in keeping her calm
- I thought you understood… you know the situation I’m in, it’s not like I’m ignoring you by choice. Ririka’s tears started to dwell in the corner of her eyes, but she couldn’t cry just yet. I’m trying my best to keep you happy while also fulfilling my duty.
- Well, it’s not enough, I miss you. And whenever I finally get to see you, you are always distracted or talking about your sister and the clan. Mary toned down a little, starting to sob violently instead. I want to be a supportive girlfriend but I want something in return too. You’re taking too much and offering nothing.
Ririka was shocked by what she was hearing, she didn’t know that Mary felt this way. It must have bothered her for a long time since she exploded before sunrise. They always preached about communicating their feelings to each other, but it seems like that their promise has been broken long ago.
- I’m sorry, Mary, I thought everything was good between us. I know I wasn’t the best girlfriend lately, but you know how much I love you. You are my support system, without you I’d be dead a long time ago.
- I love you too, Riri, but that’s not enough. We need many other things for this to work, and the truth is, I didn’t feel that close to you lately. You were my support system as well, but now I don’t feel like telling you everything anymore. It was so easy to talk and be with you, but right now we’re back to square one.
The older twin felt her heart breaking right there and then. The girl who she saw as her sun and shining star was now trying to hide behind clouds.
- Please tell me how I can fix this, I would do anything for you, Mary. I’m begging you for a second chance. Ririka started to speak louder, desperation being clear in her voice
- I don’t know, Ririka, my mind has been made for some time. Maybe we should take a break or something, I need time to think.
- There’s no such thing as a break, what are you going to do, fuck with Yumeko and then come back to me? She replied with venom in her tone. Please reconsider this, I want to make things right, Mary.
- Then my choice is clear, I want us to break up.
And with that Mary hung up the phone. Ririka froze for a second, not registering what just happened. Should she call the blonde back, beg for more forgiveness? She is a Bami after all, how could she do that?
Ririka threw her phone across the room and started to kick things off her desk, trying to relieve the nerves on anything but her already damaged body. Mary and her had fights before, but never like this one. She knew that they always made up, although this time she wasn’t sure anymore. She will just wait for a couple of days for things to cool off and then try again, maybe the blonde will regret her decision.
But until then, she has to figure out what Mary means exactly. If love isn’t enough, what else does the blonde need?
