Work Text:

Taehyung and Jungkoook have been in a happy and loving relationship for more than a year now. Yet, it still feels brand new each day. They're in their third year of university, and things have been going well. For Taehyung, Jungkook is the most precious person. The first person he thinks of when he wakes up and his last thoughts at night. Jungkook, his little spoon, his baby. Jungkook, the strongest boy ever with muscles. Jungkook, who has tattoos and piercings. Jungkook, who believes in fate and destiny. Jungkook, the only person he belongs to.

They live in separate apartments, but they're mostly in each other's place all week. They can’t stand being away from each other for so long. Today is just one of those days. Jungkook stayed over for the night. Taehyung just got up from bed, and Jungkook is fixing his things.

Taehyung hugs him from behind. He inhales Jungkook's scent. "You smell good."

"Well, I'm wearing the perfume you gave me," Jungkook replies while still focused on his bag.

Taehyung presses a gentle kiss on his nape. He is still feeling very cuddly and affectionate to his big soft baby.

Jungkook slowly breaks away from the hug to face him. He informs him, "Tae, I'm going to be busy today."

"Okay." Taehyung nods, not listening to what he's saying. He is too busy admiring Jungkook's face.

"But wait!" Jungkook grabs a container in his bag. "I baked you cookies." He excitedly gives it to Taehyung.

Taehyung smiles when he sees it. Jungkook even places a note on top of the container that says, "For the most handsome man," or something like that. He cups Jungkook's cheeks before saying, "You're the only Kookie I want."

"Shut up." Jungkook moves away from the grip and places the container on the table.

"Thanks, baby, you're the best. I'll give you kisses in return." Taehyung knows it's a silly excuse because kissing Jungkook is his own reward.

Jungkook challenges him, "Oh, yeah? Well, I made it for that."

"You got it, baby." Taehyung wastes no time as he kisses the mole on Jungkook's neck. Then at his cheek and his cheek scar. Then he presses a kiss on top of Jungkook's nose then his bottom lip. He properly kisses him on the mouth, still as sweet as ever, and Jungkook kisses him back naturally.

Jungkook smiles into the kiss and pulls away. Taehyung leans in to press another kiss at his soft lips. Jungkook moves away and says, "Tae, stop! I'm going to be late!" He giggles while Taehyung keeps attacking him with kisses.

Taehyung declares, "I can't help it. The mole under your lip is inspiring."

__

Everything about Jungkook makes him giddy. When Jungkook smiles and scrunches his nose, Taehyung gets butterflies in his stomach as if it's his first time seeing the beautiful sight. His favourite thing is making Jungkook laugh so much that he throws his head back, and he looks like Snowball, the bunny from the secret life of pets.

Jungkook is a foodie or a food expert. He has exquisite taste in food. Taehyung enjoys listening to Jungkook whine about steak or ice cream. He sulks when his favourite kombucha is sold out. Taehyung buys him banana milk as an alternative.

Taehyung also likes just staring at Jungkook's beautiful eyes. He gets lost in those starry eyes that not even the galaxies or the stars above can compete. Jungkook is tough on the outside with his tattoos and piercings, yet he is so soft on the inside. He has the biggest heart and is good with babies (aka both their dogs). Jungkook is reserved and quiet to new people, but he doesn’t stop talking when it’s with Taehyung.

Taehyung, on the other hand, is warm and charming. He has a lot of friends too. Although some people think he’s intimidating, that’s not the case because he is friendly to anyone, and of course, he is so soft for his boy.

They have differences like how Jungkook likes being held and how Taehyung wants to cuddle him. Jungkook is an excellent cook, while Taehyung can only make ramen. While Jungkook’s forte is in art, Taehyung is in maths. Taehyung is good with numbers, but he still can’t add up what he did for him to deserve Jungkook. These differences balance each other out.

They have a lot in common as well. They are partners in crime even and get scolded for the same things together. Taehyung likes all the songs that Jungkook likes. Taehyung agrees to any rom-com Jungkook wants to watch. But most importantly, they both love each other with their whole heart.

Taehyung has one problem, though. He doesn't know what to get Jungkook for Valentine's. Jungkook always has the best gifts for Taehyung. A couple of gifts to name, such as a handmade knitted scarf, matching bracelets with their initials on them, and necklaces. Mostly, Jungkook’s gifts to him are customized for his liking. It’s always special, and Taehyung treasures them.

___

Two weeks before Valentine's Day

Taehyung is still calm since he has time left. He decides to ask for help from his friend, who's also in a stable and happy relationship. Shortly, his friend arrives at his place.

Jimin says unamusedly that his best friend called him to go to his apartment. "So why did you call me here?" He sees Taehyung with the laptop on and different magazines, paper in front of him. As if he's researching something all night.

Taehyung finally speaks up, "Jimin, this is a life or death situation. What do I give Jungkook for Valentine's?"

Jimin shrugs. He doesn't know why Taehyung is overreacting when he can just go to the mall and grab anything to buy. "I don’t know, get him a perfume."

Taehyung groans. "I already did that."

He recalls when he got Jungkook a clean cotton-scented perfume because he is sensitive to smells. As Taehyung says, "my baby might smell something weird at night." It's a simple gift, but Jungkook has shown his gratefulness to Taehyung by giving him unlimited hugs that day. Up to this date, that was one of the best days of Taehyung's life.

"I need to give him something so great and say, Will you be my Valentine ?"

Jimin makes a sour confused face as if he didn't understand what Taehyung just said clearly. "Um, isn't that a given because you're dating?"

Taehyung is shocked by Jimin’s question, like he asked something so bizarre. "No, Jimin! You still have to ask your partner every year to make sure. Don't you guys do it too?" Yoongi and Jimin have been in a relationship longer than Taehyung and Jungkook. And here, Taehyung thought Jimin would understand his struggles.

Jimin says nonchalantly, "No, you guys are just weird."

Taehyung fights back, "Consent is not weird!"

Jimin rolls his eyes. "We're talking about Valentine's day, not sex."

“Consent is not only in sex.” Taehyung shrugs. "Point still stands." They both fight about everything in the world.

Jimin furrows his eyebrows. "Of course, Yoongi is my valentine. Who else is there to be?”

Taehyung shrugs. “Someone else if you don't ask.”

“So you think Jungkook is gonna date some rando if you ask? If you're going to ask that every year then by that logic, you should ask Jungkook every day if he is still your boyfriend!" Jimin laughs at how ridiculous Taehyung is.

Taehyung gives him a smug face as he crosses his arms. "And what makes you think I don't?"

"Oh god." Jimin palms his hand on his head. He gives in to whatever Taehyung is saying and moves on. He suggests, "Go for the classic. Give him a watch then."

Taehyung rolls his eyes and replies, "We’re in college. I can’t give him a Rolex."

Jimin shows little to no reaction. "That didn’t stop you before." The last time Taehyung gave Jungkook a diamond necklace, the younger one threatened to break up with him if he didn't take it back. As Jungkook says, it's worth more than one term of their tuition fee, and he cannot accept it. Taehyung knows Jungkook won't really break up with him, but he knows better than not to shock his boyfriend with extravagant gifts.

After more suggestions, Jimin has grown tired. He checks his phone and smiles as he gets a text. Jimin stands up and stops at the door frame. "I don't know, maybe just think of Jungkook’s favourites. I have a date with Yoongi. Bye!"

Taehyung stands up and follows him by the hallways. Taehyung mocks an offended tone, "Wow, leaving me when I’m in need. How could you?"

Jimin continues walking and turns around when he's in the elevator. "You’d do the same. Love you, bye!"

Taehyung laughs. "Love you too, soulmate."

Taehyung thinks to himself, whatever, he can figure this out on his own, right? Without asking for help or being obvious, right?

___

One week and a half before Valentine's day

Jungkook is at Taehyung's apartment for movie night. They are both cuddled up on the couch, messily entangled into each other. Jungkook chose the film this time. The younger one is too focused watching while Taehyung is too busy tracing his fingertips over Jungkook's tattoos. His favourite one is the tiger lily flower one. It’s Jungkook’s birth flower, and it’s beautiful and delicate like him. He pulls Jungkook closer, hugging him so tight.

Jungkook tries to move away, but not really. "Taehyungie! You're squishing me!"

"That was the point, baby." Taehyung stops squishing his body and moves on to place his hand on Jungkook's cheeks. The younger one lets him do whatever he wants until he stops.

Taehyung has moved to his next fascination, staring at Jungkook. He doesn't know how he got so lucky to love Jungkook every day and to be loved by him. It still feels so surreal that he has to ask every day if it's real.

Jungkook feels his gaze burning on his skin. He turns around and asks, "Taehyungie, why are you looking at me like that?"

Taehyung admits, "Just thinking about how much I love you." His eyes tell just as much as his words do. He looks smitten, and he always will be.

Jungkook feels his cheeks warming up into a blush. "You're a sap. Go focus on the movie."

"You love it, though." Taehyung grabs his hand and places a kiss on top of it.

The movie soon ended. Taehyung won't admit that he barely got a glimpse of the movie because he was busy, ruffling Jungkook's hair and pulling him as close as ever. That's the only sole purpose of a movie night, intense cuddle session.

After the film credits show up, Jungkook opens the light beside him. He asks Taehyung, "Did you like it?"

"Yeah, good movie. How about you?" Taehyung answers as if he ever showed interest in the movie.

Jungkook rambles, "I just think it's cool how they switch hobbies to try what the other wants."

"Hm, yeah?" Taehyung grabs his hand, but Jungkook removes it as he moves his hand as he explains, typical Jungkook. "Yeah, he was a designer for a day, and she was a street racer for a day."

Taehyung says the obvious, “That’s dangerous.”

“Yeah, but she was trained in the basics of it, and she was cool...” Jungkook rambles passionately about the storyline that Taehyung thinks he’s so adorable. He never wants Jungkook to lose that sparkle in his eyes when he talks about something he likes. It’s just so beautiful. He is beautiful. It's the simple things that make Taehyung more in love with him.

Taehyung just nods. “Yeah, you’re right.”

He always is.

Jungkook suggests, "We should do that, someday."

Taehyung agrees easily, "Yeah, okay. Anything you want."

Jungkook excitedly asks, "Really?" He claps his hands cutely.

"Yes." Taehyung boops his nose, and Jungkook stands up away from his touch, leaving the older one sitting there.

Taehyung calls out, "Babe, where are you going?"

Jungkook mocks, "To the bed, duh. Let's cuddle there, we're too big for this couch."

That's where Taehyung got the idea that he's going to place himself in Jungkook's hobbies and give him something. And what more does Jungkook like other than baking? Jungkook is part of the baking club, after all. He excitedly gives Taehyung what he baked every week. He can't go for chocolate chip cookies, though, because that's Jungkook's specialty. He can never beat that or come close to his recipe. Taehyung decided he's going to bake Jungkook a cake for Valentine's day.

~

Here's a guide on How to bake a cake by Kim Taehyung.

  1. Ask your boyfriend what's his favourite cake
  2. Search for the Recipe
  3. Try to bake the cake

The first step is easy, Taehyung just had to make an excuse to play a game and make Jungkook say his favourite food of different categories. It ended up with Jungkook saying his favourite food in the world is chicken. Oh, and Taehyung confirmed that strawberry shortcake is Jungkook's favourite cake.

Taehyung bought all the ingredients in the grocery and the bakery. For the first time Taehyung tries baking, he puts in too much milk that it's too wet and moist. The second time, he put too much flour that it tastes dry, and not even the cream can save it. He decides to call it a night and go to Jungkook's apartment to regain his energy.

When he got there, he hugged Jungkook so tightly. Taehyung mumbles into Jungkook's fluffy hair. "I missed you, baby."

"I missed you too. I told you, you can just do your project here." Jungkook offered earlier, but of course, Taehyung had to make excuses that he doesn't want to be disturbed because he was baking.

While they're sitting on the couch, Jungkook squints his eyes while looking at Taehyung. Taehyung thinks he looks like a puppy.

"Babe, what's that on your hair?" Jungkook reaches out to ruffle his hair. Taehyung checks and touches it with his hand. He sees the white thing from earlier. It got to his hair when he rested his head on the table, almost giving up on everything.

Code red. Oh no. The flour. Code flour.

"That's powder. I put too much. I'll wash it off in the bathroom." Taehyung panics and stands up.

Jungkook gives him a confused look. "Uh, okay?"

____

A new day, another day for Taehyung to try baking. Third time the charm, right? He thinks he's finally following the steps and getting the recipe. Everything is going smooth like butter. He placed all the strawberries and layered them with cream. Then he hears a knock on his door and his phone vibrating with messages.

--

baby:

Hi..?

Open the door tae, i'm here

tae:

WHAT?

WHY?

baby:

Why not?

tae:

I'm not home

baby:

I can literally hear you play our shared playlist in speakers from here...

If you don't want me to come then just say so

tae:

noooooo baby

give me a minute

___

Taehyung rushes to shove the cake in the fridge and to hide all his ingredients. He feels like The Flash for being this fast. He guesses that's a normal reaction when faced with a life or death situation. In this case, Jungkook finds out what he has been practicing and failing for days.

Taehyung opens the door, and he sees his cute boyfriend, wearing an oversized yellow sweater with his arms crossed and lips pouting. He's too cute to look scary. Taehyung almost coos at the sight but holds himself back. He knows it will frustrate Jungkook even more if he teases.

Taehyung makes up an excuse, "Sorry, I looked ugly. I didn't want you to see me."

Jungkook hits his arm. The boy furrows his eyebrows and pouts even more. "Don't say that."

Taehyung shrieks. "Ouch, what was that for?" He didn't realise his boyfriend was this mad.

Jungkook declares, "You're the most handsome man in the world." He tells Taehyung that frequently and how he is so proud that he's dating the most handsome one among all the other mortals. Taehyung always says he's exaggerating because he's just in love.

Taehyung teases, "Even without make-up on?"

Jungkook nods. "Still number one, even without make-up."

Taehyung cups his cheeks and kisses him. Suddenly, Jungkook's annoyance is long forgotten and replaced with sweetness. Jungkook kisses him back, sweetly and deeply. The younger one smiles into the kiss before pulling away. The whole time they're shamelessly kissing at Taehyung's door frame. Jungkook is ready to come in when Taehyung stops him.

"Babe, wait. Don't come in." Taehyung urges Jungkook to stay there.

“Hm?” Jungkook arches his eyebrow, questioning him.

Taehyung explains, "I'll just get my wallet, and let's go on a date. You're way too pretty to just spend time at home. I wanna show you off." Jungkook giggles and Taehyung knows he succeeded once again.

Taehyung let out a sigh when he got in and closed the door. That was close. Jungkook almost saw all his materials messily hidden in his apartment.

Taehyung spent the rest of the day with his adorable boyfriend. When he got home, the cake was frozen and not neatly done. He also spent the next day with Jungkook, forgetting all his plans for the cake. Taehyung does this just because he feels like he's depriving spending time with his baby. What's the cake for if Jungkook will be sad and sulky? Taehyung's weak heart couldn't handle that.

__

The thing is Taehyung really tried. He is following the recipe and watched about thirty different videos baking the same strawberry shortcake. For the fourth time, he thought he succeeded, but when he tasted it. It's still not enough to his liking. He kept going to try again. Before he knows it, it's his sixth time baking the same strawberry shortcake in the span of five days.

Everything was all fun and games until Taehyung was too tired, and he fell asleep while waiting. He wakes up as he hears the smoke detector going off. He stood up in a rush and turned off the oven. Thank god it wasn't that bad. He got it out before the smoke detector could even sprinkle water. Taehyung knows he failed.

This is it, the point of acceptance.

The cake is burned. He lets it down the table, and some part of the cake smears into Taehyung's skin, and it burns. While the excess strawberries taste sour, Taehyung just throws them away.

Fuck the strawberries and fuck his life.

Taehyung cleans up and does the dishes. Then he goes to bed, exhausted. It's been a long day. He sees messages on his phone is what causes his breaking point after everything that happened.

---

baby:

Tae

I'm tired gonna sleep now

where are you?

have you eaten dinner at least?

you must be studying

You’re working so hard

I love you so much, my baby bear

___

Taehyung cries. He loves Jungkook so much, but he can't bake a fucking cake. He scrolls his phone until he gets an idea. Why is he suffering when he can just hire the greatest baker of all time? He could, but he doesn't have time. Valentine's day is in two days. Taehyung decides to make a tiny bit (a huge one) of adjustment to his plan.

The point of no return.

Here's an updated guide on How to bake a cake by Kim Taehyung, three easy steps:

  1. Ask your boyfriend what's his favourite cake
  2. Search for the Recipe

  1. Order the cake somewhere else

He searches for cakes online. He searches for the best bakery, which is two hours drive away. Jungkook deserves the best cake, and Taehyung is going to give it to him, no matter what. But first, he needs help from Hoseok, Jungkook's best friend, to distract him while Taehyung drives away for two hours. He texted Hoseok and explained the plan. Everything is all set for tomorrow.

D-Day ♡

The day Taehyung has been waiting for (loathing it like he's nervous for an exam). It's either make it or break it day, and there's no in-between. He thought about what would happen to this day for the past few weeks. He just wants to be the best boyfriend for Jungkook, which is ironic now because of the change of plans. He decides to scream at Jimin's texts because who else can understand him and keep his big secret rather than his best friend.

Tae:

Jimin

Jimin

Park Jimin

I'm gonna die

Oh god I died and you didn't picked up

Jimin:

Tae:

Jimin:

newsflash you've been dating for a year dumbass :O

just give it you don't have to say that you baked it

___

Taehyung sees his lovely boyfriend in the hallway just after his first period. Jungkook is wearing pink again, more to the vibe of Valentine's day. When Jungkook meets his gaze, he smiles, and Taehyung feels the butterflies in his stomach. He looks pretty, gorgeous, soft, cute, and no words are enough to describe him.

Jungkook is too pretty not to kiss, so Taehyung kisses him. Taehyung leans in, and presses a sweet kiss on his soft lips. Jungkook kisses him back as an impulse reaction. The kiss was deep and heart racing. It's their first time seeing that day, after all.

Jungkook smiles into the kiss before pulling away. "Good morning to you too."

Taehyung declares, "Jungkookie, I got you something."

"What? So early?" Jungkook widens his eyes. Then he panics, "But I haven’t brought your gift with me yet. It's in my apartment." He sulks, and Taehyung plays with his bottom lip.

Taehyung laughs. "Don't worry about it, baby. It's in your locker."

Jungkook says, "Okay, you look so cool today. So handsome." He shamelessly checks out Taehyung, wearing a leather jacket and denim ripped jeans. It's a random compliment, but Taehyung will take it. At least he looks good doing this foolishness. Jungkook doesn't know he's dying of nervousness. Taehyung deserves an Oscar for pulling it together up to this part.

Jungkook excitedly takes Taehyung's hand as they rush towards the locker.

Jungkook asks, "Did you make it?"

Taehyung doesn't confirm or deny. He just smiles. That boxy smile that makes Jungkook's heart melt. He smiles through the pain.

Jungkook opens his lock, an easy code, 1230, Taehyung's birthday. Everything leads back to him. Then there it is in full view, the strawberry shortcake topped with strawberries, Jungkook's favourite. Jungkook smiles so big that Taehyung knew his past two weeks of struggling were worth it.

"Tae, you're the best! I can't believe you got me my favourite cake. I love you, babe."

"I love you too, baby."

The end.

______

That's where happiness ended because, after five seconds, Jungkook stepped aside to thank Taehyung more. Then something inside Jungkook's lockers slips. The books in there are loosely placed, falling over each other, making the cake fall too. It falls into the ground that not even the lid can save it. The cake breaks apart just like Taehyung. The cream is smashed against the cake, and the strawberries like it were blended. It's completely ruined, just like their relationship.

"Oh my god!" Jungkook gasps. Taehyung is in utter shock too, but he thinks this must be karma for buying the cake somewhere else. He doesn't deserve any of the praise that Jungkook said. He feels like shit inside, but he deserves it for implying that he baked it.

Jungkook apologises, "Tae, I'm so sorry."

Taehyung shrugs. "It's not your fault. I placed it there."

Taehyung grabs the cake with the covering, which is already ruined inside the box. He throws it to the trashcan nearby. "I have to go to class," He says, not meeting Jungkook's gaze.

"Tae, I know you don't have class. I memorised your schedule." Jungkook grabs his wrist. He continues apologising, "I'm sorry. I know you worked hard on it."

Taehyung could just come clean and get this over with, but there's a lump on his throat holding his back. He can't say it out loud, even if he wants to. The air on his lungs is caught up, not letting him breathe properly. Taehyung sighs. "I told you don't apologise."

"Let's go to my apartment. I'm sure what I will give you will make you feel better. Please?" Jungkook bats his eyelashes and looks at him with his pretty round doe eyes that Taehyung can never say no to.

___

It's a ten-minute walk towards Jungkook's apartment. The younger one never let go of Taehyung's hand all the way there until they reached the place. Yet Taehyung's hands are shaking. He sits on the couch while Jungkook grabs it in his room.

"It's here!" Jungkook places down a wrapped red rectangular gift. Taehyung looks at it. He thinks it's probably a notebook or a book. Jungkook urges him, "Open it, babe."

Taehyung unwraps it and sees a notebook with their picture on the cover, the one they took on their anniversary. He realises that it’s not a notebook, it’s a scrapbook that Jungkook has been working on for a while. Taehyung notices him cutting stuff and buying stickers, but he doesn't think of it much. Taehyung scans the pages, and it's filled with their pictures with decorations.

It has different captions.

A picture of them when they were younger. Probably the end of freshman year. Taehyung is wearing plaid with a snapback on, and Jungkook is wearing a white shirt. Our first date. One look in your dazzling brown eyes, I knew I was going to fall in love with you, Kim Taehyung.

A picture of them wearing winter clothes. The Christmas we spent together, where we threw snowballs at each other. Our hands were red even with the gloves on. Then we went to the sauna. It's one of my best memories ever. I love you.

The next page is just a picture of Taehyung, taken by Jungkook when he's not looking. The night you told me you love me and I love you so much.

Taehyung feels his heart swell and not in a good way. All he feels is guilt. Taehyung closes the book. He finally voices out, "I can't do this."

"What?" Jungkook looks at him, eyes filled with concern that Taehyung only feels worse. "You don't like it?"

Taehyung shakes his head. "No."

Jungkook softly mumbles, "Oh?" Taehyung's heart breaks even more. Of course, he likes it. He loves it. It's perfect. Jungkook is perfect, and he doesn't deserve him.

Taehyung explains, "It's not about that. I like it!"

Jungkook furrows his eyebrows in confusion. "Then why? Are you still sad because of the cake, I'm sorry—"

"Jungkook, I lied to you. I didn't make the cake. It probably fell because it's karma biting me in the ass." Taehyung feels the tears on his eyes flowing down his cheeks. It's his first time lying to Jungkook ever. He betrayed the love of his life, and for what? For it to get ruined on the floor, Jungkook didn't even have the chance to taste the two-hour drive of deceit.

He continues, "I'm a fraud. While you're out here making the best scrapbook of the beautiful memories of us, I took an easy way out and bought the cake. Maybe I don't deserve to be your Valentine or your boyfriend. I'm so sorry, please don't break up with me."

Jungkook sighs. "Tae, I know."

"You know I don't deserve you." Taehyung places his hands on his eyes to hide them. He cries in shame and asks, "Are you going to break up with me?"

It's over for Taehyung. He never thought that their downfall would be because of a fucking cake. He regrets everything.

Jungkook pats his back then cups his cheeks, but he still won't look up to him. The older one continues crying that Jungkook tries his best to calm him down. "Shh, Taehyungie, Tae my love, my baby, beloved, mine. I know you didn't bake the cake.

Jungkook is calling him terms of endearment. For a second, he thinks maybe he still has hope. He wishes on his lucky charms that Jungkook forgives him.

"I'm sorry." Taehyung hiccups and cries on Jungkook's touch. Then Jungkook's last words register in his mind. "Wait, what?"

Jungkook repeats it clearer this time, "I said I know you didn't bake the cake, and I still think you're the best boyfriend ever." He wipes his tears and kisses his cheek.

Taehyung finally looks at him. "Huh, how did you know about the cake?"

Jungkook shrugs. "I assumed."

"Then why did you play along?" Taehyung has so many questions like why is Jungkook so calm? Followed by, "Wait. How did you know?"

"Oh. It doesn't matter." Jungkook shushes him and reassures him, "It's really okay Tae, I love you so much."

"Tell me." Taehyung begs, "At least I want to know what gave it away."

Jungkook sighs and places his two fingers on Taehyung eyebrows to stop him from furrowing his eyebrows. "Well... promise you won't cry anymore."

Taehyung nods. "I'll try."

"That one time, you came over, and you had it in your hair. Babe, I'm a baker. I know that was flour in your hair and your shirt and not powder."

Stupid hair.

Taehyung asks, "That's it?"

"When you kissed me." Jungkook smiles, remembering it. He teases, "You tasted like cake batter. Sweet but can still be improved."

Stupid lips.

"So my lips gave me away?" Jungkook nods.

"Hmm, I didn’t mean to snoop, but you left your laptop on, and you’re looking for cakes. And you got Hobi to spend time with me and take my phone, which is odd when he can barely last two hours in my apartment without being bored!" Jungkook explains. Taehyung thinks, wow, his boy is so smart, he could be a detective.

Okay, that was too much and specific. Everything gave it away.

He can never lie to Jungkook because Jungkook knows him more than he knows himself. Jungkook knows when he’s feeling something before he even voices it out.

"Then why did you go along with it?" All this time, Taehyung thought he was fooling Jungkook when it was the other way around. Jungkook is pretending he doesn't know.

Jungkook admits, "I know you tried baking it for a long time, and that's what matters. I don't want your efforts to get wasted. I'll agree that you baked it if you said it if it will make you smile. I just want you to be happy."

In Taehyung's defense. "For the record, I didn't say I baked it."

"Yeah, you didn't. You didn't deny it either." Jungkook pinches at Taehyung's cheeks. Oh, how the tables have turned.

Taehyung finally laughs, and that beautiful sound echoes in the room. Jungkook feels all his worries being lifted away.

Jungkook teases him, "Why are you so dramatic that you won't be my valentine because of a gift. Of course, you are. You are mine . You are my boyfriend and the love of my life. That's a given."

"But, baby, we've been asking each other each year." Taehyung reminds him of their past two years of asking each other.

Jungkook lets out a laugh again. He sits on Taehyung’s lap. "Even if you didn't ask me, I would still be your Valentine, okay?"

"Okay." Taehyung feels like, for the first time in his life, Jimin is right.

Jungkook offers, “If you want to bake a cake, we can do it together. I won’t laugh at you.”

Taehyung grabs Jungkook’s bottom. So plump and soft from all his hours at that gym. Yep, that’s cake. “You're the only cake I want.”

Jungkook shrieks as his boyfriend grips him. “Tae!”

Taehyung cups the soft muscle on his plump ass. “See, cake.” He won’t admit it, but he likes when Taehyung holds him like this playfully.

“You’re—” Taehyung bites into Jungkook’s shoulder, catching him off guard. “Ouch! Stop biting me. It hurts to death!”

Taehyung challenges, teasingly kissing Jungkook's neck. “But it’s okay because I’m so handsome, right?”

Jungkook repeats, “But it’s okay because you are so handsome!” Jeon Jungkook is only human, he is also hypnotized by Taehyung’s dashing looks.

Taehyung gestures to bite his cheeks on his face… Ready to bite the squishy pink cheek. Jungkook closes his eyes in anticipation of the pain.

“Fine, I’ll stop… for now.” Taehyung moves away and gives him mercy.

Jungkook opens his eyes and lets out a deep breath he’s been holding while Taehyung lays back on the couch.

Jungkook calls out, "And Tae?"

Taehyung sits up as he caresses Jungkook's thighs. "Yes, baby?"

Jungkook grabs his hand. "You don't need to buy me a gift. Don't stress about it too much."

"Why not?" Of course, Taehyung wants to give him a gift every occasion or every day, even to celebrate how much he loves Jungkook.

Jungkook lets go of his hand and cups his cheeks instead. "Just because." Jungkook leans in to kiss him. Taehyung grabs his waist to kiss him deeper. They fit together perfectly. Jungkook pulls away from the kiss and says, "You are the best gift that's ever been mine."

For Jeon Jungkook, Kim Taehyung is the best gift ever in his twenty-three years of existence.
