Chapter 1: Recommendation Exam

Chapter Text

They were now in UA.

They got of the car and Izuku's said goodbye to his brother and Katsuki murmured thanks to him. "Kick their asses, okay!" Izuku's brother said.

"Kei-nii!" Izuku yelled back not agreeing of what he said. "We will!" However, Katsuki approved at the statement. Kei-nii laughed and drove away.

They were now in the front gate of the school. It was closed by a metal door. Izuku thought the door might open downwards. "Izuku Takami, Katsuki Bakugou, welcome to UA!" A cheerful voice they heard from somewhere and the metal door opened downwards vibrating the ground below them.

It stopped once it was fully open. "Please proceed and follow the signs to reach the waiting room." The two walked through the door.

Izuku processed the place. In front of them was the recognizable tall building of UA. The walls were made of glass. At the stone path they were walking on was bushes and small trees at the sides. The greenery were pleasant to look at.

They finally reached the open entrance of the building and the two spotted a sign saying that the waiting room was ahead of them. They walked through the corridor for a couple of seconds until they saw a door with an imprinted sign saying the room was the waiting area.

Katsuki immediately opened the door without a second thought and Izuku followed. The waiting room was full of teenagers like them. The teenagers including Izuku and Katsuki were recommended students. They were recommended by either a hero or a well-known influential figure.

They seemed too busy talking to each other to glance at the newcomers. Katsuki motioned Izuku to sat at a corner. Izuku sat adjusting his wings on his back to make himself comfortable.

"Ah! New people!" A tall guy approached the two. He was wearing of what was to be his school uniform. He was wearing a dark blue clothing and a hat with an 'S' on it. Izuku realized he was from Shiketsu.

The attention of the others shifted at the two. Some murmured and Katsuki swore he could hear someone mentioned Izuku's wings.

"I'm Yoarashi Inasa! From Shiketsu High School! Nice to meet you! What is your quirk? After all, we future heroes deserve to be one and to be one, we must have a strong quirk. Weaker ones should make way to us strong and we shall protect them and the civilians from villains! I can see the future light up in my eyes!" Yoarashi lifted his hand to them. Izuku slightly narrowed his gaze at him while Katsuki straight up glared at him. Yoarashi seemed to be oblivious at the sudden tension that washed over the room.

The others were pointing looks at them. Izuku nor Katsuki did not agree with that. How could he? Izuku tried to give a convincing fake smile. He did not like him. "My name's Takami Izuku and this is Bakugou Katsuki. Our—"

"Hey little listeners!" A booming sound had been heard inside the room. "The written portion of the exam is starting now! Follow the signs and we'll meet you there!" Katsuki already stood up and headed to the door and Izuku glanced at the man before following the blond. The students one by one went out of the room.

Katsuki and Izuku were ahead of them. They swayed through the corridors until they reached their destination. The room was wide and it had twenty seats and a desk in front of them. Each seat had a desk with a paper and a pen. The two chose to sit near each other. "Alright, little listeners! We'll give you an hour to answer the questions. If your finished, leave the test on the front desk facing down and go outside the room and find the practical area. Also change into your preferred clothing to perform your practical exam. Good luck!" They wondered where the speakers were.

The written test was easy to Izuku. It had English, science, history regarding quirks, law, mathematics and psychology on both heroes and villains. What was eye-catching was a question that asks if all villains had bad intentions. Izuku answered to be no. Not all villains were bad. Yes, they did illegal things to be considered as villains but some were forced to do it. He also mentioned that some heroes could be corrupt. He mentioned that heroes could be a villain in disguise. The world was not perfect and it was not black and white but shades of grey.

He finished the test under twenty minutes and stood up. He walked to the desk and placed the paper facing down. Izuku could hear some of them murmured about him. A sound a creak resounded and Izuku looked back to be Katsuki. He was done also. "Let's go, nerd."

They walked outside and found the sign where they would take the practical portion of the exam. "Man, the questions were easy."

"Not surprised. You are too much of a nerd."

"Hey! You're a nerd too!" Izuku accused.

"Whatever." Izuku could see him curl up his lips for a moment.

"What's your answer about villains being possibly good?" Izuku asked curiously.

"Eh. Not all villains were bad and not all heroes are good either. Seriously, once I became a hero, I'll kick the Hero Commission's ass."

They both knew what he was talking about.

They finally reached the practical portion and it was outside. There was a tent near a wall with vacant foldable seats under it and they sat on it. They waited for the practical exam.

"Hi." Izuku turned and Katsuki moved an eye to see a black-haired girl with a pony tail. "Hello, my name's Takami Izuku and this blond guy is Bakugou Katsuki."

"My name's Yaoyorozu Momo. Nice to meet you." She offered a handshake and Izuku gladly shook it. She turned to the blond but decided to not greet him as his attention was not on them.

"You two seemed to ace the test pretty well. I never thought the test would be this hard, especially law and psychology."

"Oh, I guess it was to be expected. After all, we future heroes need to be aware of the law and behaviour considering we will save civilians and/or fight villains. There needs to be limitations of how we should handle things."

"That is a great insight, Takami-san."

"Hey!" They turned to see a boy with exposed teeth. His whole face looked like a skull. "Honenuki-san," Yaoyorozu called. He sat beside her and leaned over to see Izuku beside her.

"Hey, you two finished the test so fast. I got stuck in law and psychology. Man, the questions in there especially in psychology was just so bizarre and unusual." Honenuki commented.

"I agree. The psychology portion makes me think of how I view hero society. Do you think there are villains that are good?" Yaoyorozu asked.

"Do you think all heroes are good?" Katsuki asked out of the blue. The three turned to him who was staring at the wall. "What?" Honenuki asked confused.

"Do you think all heroes are good?" Katsuki repeated the question.

"Y-Yes," Yaoyorozu hesitantly answered. "I mean, they're heroes right? Heroes saves civilians and fight villains. We rely on them to lessen the crime rate."

"Really? Do you think so?" Katsuki turned to them and his glare was sending shivers to their spine. His red piercing eye were staring at their very souls. Izuku was unaffected as he was used to it.

"The world is not black and white. It's shades of grey. Not all people are either only good or only evil. People can wear the mask of being good while hiding their evil selves. Government officials had done it. Some are now in prison. Who's to say heroes and villains are also like that. They're people as well. Ever noticed there were no single imprisoned hero? Wonder why is that? Perhaps bribery, popularity, scaring people to silence? After all, they have influence and quirks and they can use that."

They were stunned of what he said. Their mouths were gaping slightly. Izuku sighed and said, "I agree with Kacchan."

"I never thought of that. Makes you wonder which hero could possibly do that," Yaoyorozu said.

"Man, I hope none of my favorite heroes were like that. It will devastate me," Honenuki commented.

Soon, students were piling up on the tent until the last person came in. Katsuki and Izuku were close with the green boy's head on the blond shoulder. They were comfortably silent.

"Hey little listeners!" A blond guy with a weird hair style and glasses in a black suit yelled to the children. Izuku turned to see the familiar hero.

"It's Present Mic," Izuku whispered and elbowed Katsuki who just hummed in response and glanced at the hero. He was fanboy-ing.

"It's time for practical exam!"

Present Mic took them to an obstacle course. The course would test their speed, agility and strength. It had various terrains. The hero gave them random number to be plastered in front of their clothing. There were twenty candidates for the recommendation exam and Izuku got 9th while Katsuki 17th.

The hero told them that four candidates would take the course each run and Izuku was on the 3rd round while Katsuki 5th round.

"Ugh! No fair! We're in a separate round! I can't kick your ass in the course!" Katsuki complained while Izuku just snickered. The others caught their attention.

"Kacchan, don't be whiny pomeranian." Katsuki turned a glare to him while Izuku was practically smirking. "What did you say, you chicken!" To others, Katsuki looked angry but he was really being light-hearted about it.

They continued bickering and they were almost chaotic to say the least. Present Mic was amused at their interaction.

Soon, the first round started and the first four took off the course. Izuku and Katsuki were not close together as they were separated. Katsuki was with the others on the 5th round while Izuku on 3rd.

Izuku was with Yoarashi, a girl with green hair and a boy with half-red and half-white hair. Izuku could feel the split-colored boy was very curious of him as he stared at him intently. His teal eyes reminded him of Endeavor. The girl's name was Setsuna and the boy's name was Todoroki.

They were silent as they watch the candidates taking the course from afar. The first and second round was finished and Present Mic had called the four to ready themselves.

"Ready." The four knelt down with their one leg behind and arms on the ground. "Set." Izuku could see ahead of him and saw a giant wall. They must go over it. He readied his wings on his back to prepare for another flight. "Go!"

In an instant, Izuku propelled his wings as he pushed himself off the ground. He was fast. However, Todoroki and Yoarashi were catching up. Yoarashi seemingly using a quirk that manipulates the wind. Izuku could feel the area becoming windier. Todoroki was propelling himself forward with an ice trail appearing on the ground and Setsuna split her body into many parts and flew above the ground.

They were getting near the wall and Izuku turned upward. The wall was high until he got to the top and flew down near the ground. The next obstacle was a forest. Izuku was glad it was a forest as he was used to it flying through whenever his brother trained him. He weaved through the thick branches of the tree easily.

Yoarashi behind him was struggling and Todoroki was slowed down by the large roots on the ground. Setsuna meanwhile was way behind them as her body parts dodges each branches. Currently, Izuku was first.

He got out of the forest and the next was a river. Of course he took flight above it. Todoroki had a hard time crossing it as the flow of the river was harsh. The ice kept breaking apart. Setsuna caught up and she was now 3rd.

The next course was a weird one. It was a cave with swaying hanging boulders. Izuku dodged it and there was so many. Yoarashi was having a hard time while Setsuna's body parts easily dodged it.

Izuku thought of an idea. Earlier, Present Mic said that the only things they could break were ropes and rocks colored in red. Breaking any other would lead to disqualification. The swaying boulders were not red but the ropes were carrying them.

He sent few dozen feathers and controlled it with his mind and sliced the ropes. The boulders smashed to the ground and Izuku gained speed. Of course, it would give an advantage to those behind him but he was far ahead of them.

A giant boulder suddenly surprised Izuku as it was getting near at him. There was no time to dodge it and so, by concentrating, he heard his feathers clanked and so he spun around and smash his wings — his metallic wings — to the boulder and it broke into pieces. He quickly turned his feathers back to normal and continued the course.

The next course was a dangerous one. It involved robots facing behind him. Present Mic stated that the robots could be destroyed but Izuku did not. With his wings based on owls, he flapped his wings to gain speed and flew above them silently. Each flap of his wings was a whisper and the robots on the ground seemed to not notice him.

As he passed by each robot, they noticed him and started to chase him but he was already far away. He turned left and he could see the finish line. He looked back and saw no one. Great, he gained speed by flapping his wings and reached the finish line.

"Two minute, three seconds!" He heard a cheerful voice when he passes through. He landed on the ground. There he could see Snipe waiting for them. "Good work kid. That's the shortest time ever passed the course.

"Thanks Snipe." He was fanboy-ing on the inside but compose himself.

Takami Izuku

Quirk: Bladed Wings

Mutant Aspect

He was more resistant to cold as he could survive down to -30°C until he would start shivering. He had pale white wings with black dots. It was the wings of a snowy owl. His wings was sensitive to vibrations and so he could "hear" things without his ears, even if it was disconnected to his body. His wings was also very silent. Each flap was a whisper. The inner feathers were naturally sharp.

Transformation Aspect

He could turn each of his feathers into metal. When his wings in metal form, it would gain weight and he could not fly. His metal feathers were hard as titanium and the edges were very sharp. When the metal feathers were damaged enough, it would turn back into normal.

Emitter Aspect

He could detach the feathers off of his wings and control their direction with his mind. He could do it to multiple feathers. He could also turn them into metal while detach although he would not able to control the metal feathers.
