Missed Calls | Elijah Mikaelson

Summary:

Elijah phones a number he hasn't in a while

Work Text:

Your phone buzzed for the seventh time, showing another missed call. You didn’t want to answer the phone in case it was bad news. That’s why people called you now, to tell you another person had died. Never to see how you are, just to remind you of how imminent death is and how truly inescapable it is.

You were also scared of someone, in particular, calling you. Not the fact that you didn’t want to hear from them, you truly did. But you know if they call, you would find it hard to pick up.

The phone started ringing again. You had to answer, the caller was not going to give up. Taking deep strides, you made your way across the living room. However, by the time you made it, the call had rung through to voicemail, leaving only the notifications visible.

8 MISSED CALLS - ELIJAH MIKAELSON

Taking the phone from the charger, you just stared at the alerts on the home screen. Debating whether or not you should call him back. However, Elijah called you again, persistent to get a hold of you.

You always loved how persistent he is, it was what drew you to him all those thousand years ago when you were both humans.

“What?”

“Hello, (Y/N) Darling. Finally figured out how to use your phone?” Elijah responded although you could tell by his tone that it wasn’t made maliciously. “I’ve missed you.”

He missed you. You let out a deep breath that you didn’t know you were holding. It had been years since you saw your husband. He had sent you away in fear that Mikael would find you and kill you since he had taken Marcel’s life in 1919.

“Me too. But you wouldn’t call for no reason, ‘Lijah. What happened?”

“Straight to the point, huh?” Elijah laughed down the phone. But it died down after a moment, and you heard him take a deep breath. “Mikael’s dead.”

Mikael is dead.

You felt your knees begin to shake at the news so you made your way over to the sofa to sit down, to make sure you didn’t collapse. The man who tormented you and your family since you had become supernaturals was dead. The root cause of your loneliness was gone. The man who had kept you away from your husband, your one true love, your soulmate, was dead.

You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. You could finally go home. You can finally have the happily ever after you were promised so many lifetimes ago.

“(Y/N)? Did you hear me?”

“I heard you, ‘Lijah. Where are you now?” You asked, speeding to your bedroom and grabbing your satchel to stuff your essentials into.

“Where it all started,” Elijah said. “Mystic Falls.”
