Work Text:

Alec sighed as he felt the familiar feeling of Magnus’ wards washing over him. Alec had always found the feeling comforting, even before he started dating Magnus. There was just something warm about them that made him feel welcome. That feeling had only increased the more he got to know Magnus and the more time they spent together.

Alec let himself into the loft, discarding his weapons and shoes at the door. He knew his boyfriend was home, and the quietness of the loft meant that the warlock was in his apothecary. Alec made his way through the living room to Magnus’ potions room, placing his jacket on the back of an armchair as he walked past. The door was open, and Alec leant against the frame watching Magnus as he swirled magic around whatever potion he was making. Alec smiled as he took in the sight in front of him. This man, this warlock was one of the most powerful people on Earth and for some reason, he was Alec’s.

He loved watching Magnus work, loved watching him use his magic. He’d grown up thinking that a warlock’s magic was dangerous and evil, a demonic power that should be kept in its place. Alec watched the blue tendrils curl around a jar before bringing it to Magnus. He knew that yes, a warlock’s magic was dangerous but it was only dangerous if the warlock wanted it to be.

He’d seen Magnus’ magic in full force. They’d been an outbreak of demons and Magnus had come along to help. He had watched Magnus’ blue magic fly from his fingers and attack the demons closest to him. It was a sight to behold. Magnus looked incredible, stunning. Alec had been so distracted that he hadn’t noticed the demon about to attack him. He only realised it was there when a tendril of red magic curled around its neck. Alec’s breath had caught in his throat at the sight of his boyfriend. Magnus’ eyes were unglamoured and the red magic seemed more powerful, more dangerous. The warlock looked royal, deadly and utterly gorgeous.

Alec was pulled back to the present by a tickling sensation on his arm. He chuckled as he saw a blue tendril curling around his wrist. He allowed it to tug him into the room and to Magnus. The warlock grinned as he turned to look at Alec.

“Hello, darling,” Magnus said, kissing Alec softly on the cheek.

“Hi,” Alec replied, laughing as Magnus magic prodded at his arm.

Alec shifted, moving his hand to cup his boyfriend’s cheek as he placed a soft kiss on the man’s lips. Magnus hummed, leaning into the kiss. Alec felt the magic pat his arm contently.

“How long were you standing in the doorway?” Magnus asked when they pulled away.

“Since I got home,” Alec replied.

Magnus smiled softly at him. “And you didn’t say hello.”

Alec shrugged. “I love watching you work, Magnus. Your magic is beautiful and you are stunning. The way your magic does things, the way it flows, it’s fascinating and wonderful.”

Magnus was looking at Alec was a look of awe on his face that Alec wanted to kill anyone who has ever told the warlock otherwise. The warlock turned back to his concoction and added the last of the ingredients before giving it a quick stir. Alec watched, mesmerised by the man’s power.

When Magnus turned to face him again, Alec drew him into a kiss.

“Did you know that when Lydia first came to the Institute she asked about you?” Alec asked, when he pulled away, watching Magnus start to clean up between periodic stirs of his potion.

“Oh?” Magnus asked, raising an eyebrow at his boyfriend.

Alec hummed, leaning against the desk. “She was excited to meet you. Apparently, her great ancestor invented the portal with you.”

Magnus seemed pensive for a moment, “Ah yes. I remember. But, why are you bringing this up, darling?”

Alec flushed slightly which didn’t go unnoticed. Magnus was suddenly standing in front of him, a small smirk on his face.

“What’s got you blushing, angel?”

“She wanted you to come in and check the forsaken. I may have mentioned that you were quite magical.”

Magnus huffed air through his nose and looped his arms around Alec’s neck. “Quite magical, am I?” he teased.

Alec groaned, burning his face in Magnus’ neck. “I didn’t know what I was saying. You affected me in ways I didn’t want to look at too deeply.”

Magnus pulled Alec into a kiss. They kissed for a short while before resting their foreheads together.

“If I was quite magical then, Alexander, what am I now?”

“Stunning,” Alec whispered. “I’d seen you use your magic then and it was amazing. I’d felt your magic when I shared my strength with you, but god Magnus, I had no idea how powerful you are. Your magic is intense and deadly and so incredible. And when you wield that power, you are the most beautiful man in the world. The power you hold, you look regal and so gorgeous.”

“Alexander,” Magnus breathed, his voice full of love.

Alec let out a startled gasp when he was suddenly pulled flush against Magnus’ body by blue tendrils. The blue light wrapped around the pair, and Magnus rolled his eyes.

“We were having a moment,” the warlock muttered like he was scolding a child.

Alec chuckled. He stretched out a hand, and the magic swirled around his fingers, allowing the shadowhunter to caress it.

“Your magic makes me feel safe, Magnus. It makes me feel at home. I never knew that it could interact with me on its own accord, and I like it. I like that it likes me.”

Magnus reached up to brush a strand of hair from Alec’s forehead. “It doesn’t like you, Alexander. It loves you. Just like I do.”

Alec grinned, “good. Because I love it just as much as I love you.”

Magnus leaned in and connected their lips. The kiss was soft, sweet, passionate and full of love. Their tongues danced a familiar dance and they held each other close, using their bodies to convey just how much they loved each other.

They broke apart when they heard a hiss from the potion, and Magnus reluctantly detached himself from his boyfriend to tend to it.

“I’m gonna go change,” Alec said quietly. He kissed Magnus’ temple before turning to leave.

He had just made it to the door when he felt something slap his arse. He turned back to look at Magnus, his eyes wide and the warlock looked like he was trying not to laugh. Alec's eyes darted down to the blue tendril that was floating in front of him.

“Did you magic just slap my arse?” he asked.

“It did.”

Alec laughed. “God, Magnus, you and your magic are perfect. I love you.”

“I love you too, darling,” Magnus replied smiling at him.

Alec turned to walk away again when he felt the tendril of magic gently grope his butt. Shaking his head as it gave his buttocks one last pat, he made his way to the bedroom. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was. The most powerful warlock loved him and said warlock’s magic liked him too. He smiled to himself as he grabbed some clothes, his man really was quite magical.
