Good in a Suit

Summary:

After some persuasion, Toudou managed to convince Makishima reluctantly to come along to a formal party being held at his families onsen. Toudou soon discovers that the Peak Spider he knows and loves looks surprisingly handsome in a suit.

Notes:

  • For .

More dumb TouMaki fluff loosely inspired by a comment my friend Muku made about Makishima's ridiculous fashion sense (hence why I am gifting it to her), as now I have a mighty thirst for him in a suit, so ended up writing this.

Work Text:

"Jinpachi, show the guests in," Toudou's mother called from inside, as more guests entered the house.

"Yes," he replied, rushing to the door. When he reached the door, he saw an old couple who often used the springs standing there, he gave a smile and lead them inside. His family was holding a formal party at the inn, family, friends and regular visitors had all been invited and people were slowly starting to mill in. The young man greeted the guests, when family members asked how his school or cycling were going, he would give a smile and reply 'fantastic'. However, there was one guest who he hadn't seen turn up yet, and as more and more guests arrived he began to worry about the worst.

"Please don't stand me up, Maki-chan," he muttered to himself, looking around to see if he had missed his friend. He went to pour himself a drink to distract himself, before he heard a voice from behind him.

"Is your friend you invited here yet?" Toudou's older sister asked. The young man shook his head.

"Not yet," he replied, taking a sip from the drink. He caught sight of some young ladies who were regulars to the spring waving him over. He took the cue and gave a beaming smile as he made his way over to socialise.

A Week beforehand, he finally decided to ask him. Toudou looked at his phone, the event was in a week, and he really wanted him to come. He dialled in the number and put the phone to his ear. A few moments later he heard a voice on the other end.

"Hello?"

"Maki-chan!" Toudou exclaimed, upon hearing his friends voice on the other end of the phone.

"Yes?" Makishima responded, there was a moment of silence before he spoke again, "do you need me for something, Jinpachi?" Toudou then took a breath in before he made his request, for some reason asking his friend to come along to the event was giving him butterflies.

"My family are having a formal party at the inn next week, for friends and family, do you want to come, Maki-chan?" Toudou asked, there was a silent and then Toudou heard his friend let out an exasperated sigh from the other end of the phone.

"You know I hate those sort of things, sho, anyway isn't there anyone else you could bring along?" Makishima replied, Toudou partly expected this response, so his enthusiastic tone wasn't dampened.

"My family are all really nice though and there will be family friends there as well. Plus some regulars to the spring go as well and there is going to be food there, it will be good and you don't have to stay late," Toudou replied, hoping to convince his friend.

"You know how terrible I am at making conversation, Jinpachi. Ask Arakita or Fukutomi or Manami or even one of your fangirls instead, sho," Makishima replied. Toudou bit his lip, Makishima was being more reluctant than he anticipated. However, he wasn't going to give up as he really wanted his friend to come.

"But I want you to come, and I don't want to be on my own, Maki-chan! You are also my best rival and I want everyone to meet you!" Toudou said, his tone a little more desperate, "please, you don't even have to stay that long, even if you stay for half an hour it will be great!" there was silence on the other end of the phone for a moment, before Makishima's voice spoke up again.

"Fine, as you clearly won't let this go, I will go, sho," Makishima said. As these words were spoken, Toudou grinned, happy his friend had accepted his offer.

"Really Maki-chan! That is amazing, thank you!" Toudou exclaimed, "It starts at 6:30 pm and goes on late, and oh yes, I am going to be wearing a white suit with a black shirt and a really nice white satin headband I picked up the other week, so don't clash with me," Toudou added.

"You are making it sound like we are going as a couple, sho," Makishima replied, "anyway, see you there then," he added.

"Yes, it will be fun, thank you Maki-chan!" Toudou responded, before hanging up.

"Luckily, it turned out my bike wasn't broken after that," Toudou said. The young ladies all let out a laugh at the story Toudou had just told them, before he could say anything else, Toudou's mother appeared behind them.

"Jinpachi, there is a young man at the door looking for you," she said, Toudou's eyes lit up at this mention, 'Maki-chan' he thought to himself, as he nodded and went to meet his friend. He made his way to the door. When he did, he saw that Makishima was in fact there. Looking his friend up and down, he felt his heart pound faster and faster. Makishima was in a simple, classy, black suit with a white shirt and black tie underneath, the cuff-links on the suit appeared to be silver spiders: a personal touch. The style of his suit caused his long limbs to look elegant rather than awkward. Makishima’s long green and red hair was styled in a neat braid which trailed down his back and was secured with a black ribbon. Toudou didn't expect this, he knew it was a formal event, but he didn't expect Makishima to come dressed like this 'he looks amazing in a suit' he thought. Toudou felt his throat instantly become dry. he had to admit his friend looked amazing in the suit and struggled to get words out, "you... dressed up nice," Toudou said. Makishima ran a hand through his loose bangs before speaking.

"You said it was formal and that you were wearing a suit," Makishima responded. Toudou nodded, he then looked up at Makishima and gave him a beaming smile.

"Your hair looks amazing like that as well," Toudou added, complimenting his friend, the quiet music still audible from where they were.

"It took me enough attempts to get it right, sho," he replied, gently running his finger over the bumps of the long plait, he then gave Toudou a smirk, "you aren't looking too bad yourself," he said, noting that Toudou was dressed exactly as he had described in the phone call.

"Yeah... thank you," Toudou replied, he then gestured a finger to the hall, "anyway, come in Maki-chan, you need to meet everyone!" Toudou said, grabbing Makishima's arm.

While Makishima was someone who was terrible at chit-chat, Toudou thought he did surprisingly well. The dark haired cyclist took his friend around to meet his family and the guests at the onsen, some of which had seen Makishima before. Makishima responded to any questions he was asked, Toudou smiled over at him.

"He is my best rival!" Toudou announced to the girls he had spoken with earlier, they nodded.

"It's great that you have such a handsome friend," one commented. Makishima's expression became perplexed at this comment.

"Handsome friend?" he repeated. Toudou grimaced.

Ah, it's nothing," he responded, 'do people think we are really like that?' he wondered, as he drank from his drink, "we should get some food, Maki-chan!" he said.

"I'm not really hungry, sho," Makishima responded. Toudou's expression changed to a small frown.

"Maki-chan, it is important that you eat, and it's all good food," Toudou said, "plus anyway, there is sweet food later on, but you need have have something savoury as well," he added. Makishima replied with a sigh.

"Well it does smell good," he admitted, his lips twitching into a weak smile. Toudou then lead the couple to the food. Once they had food, they found a table to sit at. They blessed the food before eating.

"I told you it was all good," Toudou said, using his chopsticks to eat a mouthful of food. Makishima replied with a small nod as he ate some of his own food, "there are people dancing!" Toudou observed.

"So there are," Makishima replied.

"Maybe we could dance!" Toudou suggested, a little too enthusiastically, "not together, but, we could dance!" he added, as while the idea of dancing in Makishima's arms was one which surprisingly appealed to him, he had no idea how his friend would feel about the prospect.

"Are you sure that is a good idea?" Makishima said. Toudou nodded understandingly.

"I understand, if you can't" he replied, even though this made the prospect of them dancing together even more pleasing. Before either of them could speak again, Toudou's sister appeared beside the couple.

"So your friend came, Jinpachi?" she said, nodding towards Makishima.

"Yes! This is Maki-chan!" Toudou replied. Toudou's sister smiled.

"I see, I think I have met you before, but it's nice to see you."

"Nice to see you too, sho," he replied, before she left to speak to someone else. Toudou, who had almost finished eating, observed that his friend had already finished.

"Do you want to go outside for a bit?" Toudou offered. Makishima wiped his lips with a tissue before giving a nod to his friend.

"It's nice and cool out here," Toudou observed, as he stepped outside. Makishima stood next to him.

"Everyone is nice, I guess it was nice to come," Makishima replied. Toudou nodded.

"Yes, thank you," he said, "I just really wanted you to come, as I always tell people about you," he added. Makishima rose an eyebrow.

"Why?" he asked, curious.

"Because you are a great cyclist! You know I think that, Maki-chan!" Toudou replied. Makishima shrugged his shoulders.

"I guess that is a point, sho," he replied. There was a moment of silence between them as they looked out into the dark, the star bordered sky and the mountains in the background. Toudou thought it was romantic, perfect setting for a kiss, "I know I say your a pain, but I do appreciate you, Jinpachi," Makishima muttered. Toudou looked over at his friend. The view of the lean young man in his suit was perfect. Maki-chan was perfect. Toudou really did think he looked great that night, to the point where it was becoming a struggle to not blush or say something stupid, especially since it was just the two of them outside. Toudou looked to Makishima's lips, which were in a small smile, a natural smile. Makishima smiling naturally was a strange sight, but it seemed subtle and almost sexy. He really did think his friend was handsome, and tonight had only made him realise it. Toudou found himself edging himself closer to his friend, until their elbows touched. Without thinking, he then pulled Makishima in to kiss him on the lips. After pulling away, Makishima stared at Toudou for a moment with an expression of shock.

"Jinpachi?" he said, his face turning the same colour as the streaks in his hair. Toudou was silent for a moment.

"Sorry Maki-chan!" he exclaimed, trying to avoid looking into Makishima's blue eyes.

"Don't apologise, just explain," Makishima said, Toudou then smiled, glad his friend wasn't mad at his sudden move.

"I really love you Maki-chan, I don't know how you feel, but I have kind of wanted to do that for a while, and you just look so good tonight," Toudou said, "You look almost as good as me," he added, before Makishima put a hand around his shoulder.

"You really are an idiot, Jinpachi... making me confess like this," Makishima muttered, "I had no idea how sincere you were with your enthusiasm, but I am fine with you kissing me, since I feel the same," while Makishima's words seemed awkward, Toudou understood.

"Really!" he said, pleased at how his friend felt. He wrapped his arms around his friends.

"Yes, I guess that means I have to start calling you my boyfriend, sho," Makishima said, reaching to kissed Toudou on the cheek. The small kiss made Toudou buzz inside. When they pulled away, Toudou pointed at Makishima in a melodramatic fashion.

"Now let's go back inside, as I am going to dance with you, Maki-chan!" Toudou announced. Makishima gave a nod.

"Don't expect me to be any good at it," he said, following his new boyfriend inside.
