Chapter Text

-Kitty’s perspective-

“You think they’re close?” I whispered to Faalen, the ginger cat kwami. She was a honey shade of orange with a white stomach and ittena-like protrusions on her head and both sides of her face, as well as one that acted like a tail; all ended with white tips.

“I’m sure of it!” She whispered back, the white fluff on her cheeks moving softly as she turned her head: her blue, slitted eyes looking into mine with a touch of excitement.
I smiled at her before looking back up, realising that a couple of people on the train had been staring at me. Probably because I was talking to the inside of my bag. Oops. Only a few more minutes until we’re in Paris, I reminded myself.

We came from a place with little crime and no supervillains, and only one miraculous. The lack of other superheroes left much to be desired. I was the first person to find the ginger cat miraculous after it had been lost millions of years ago, and Faalen’s first chance to be reunited with her fellow kwamis in thousands of years.
We knew from the news that Ladybug and Cat Noir were in Paris, and according to Faalen, where the ladybug and cat noir miraculouses are, is where the guardian is. And where the guardian is, there are kwamis. With the added bonus of a few active heroes and two active villains, Paris was the place to be.

It was just a lucky coincidence I had an aunt I could stay with who lived there.

Once we left the train station, Faalen caught my attention by flying out of my open bag.

“Faalen, you could be seen!” I hissed, shooting a hasty glance around me to verify the lack of witnesses.

“There’s no one here, Kitty! Besides, I have to go now. The kwamis are likely with their owners, and I don’t want to accidentally reveal their human identities to you.” She responded in her rich, alto tone.

“Ok, ok. Just lie low and come back soon- don’t abandon me!” I pleaded, reaching out my pinky finger to scratch her furry cheek.

“Of course, I’ll always come back to you- if you hadn’t found me, I’d still be stuck in that god-forsaken forest!” She reminded me, before raising a tiny arm in goodbye.

I waved back as she disappeared into the streets of Paris, leaving me entirely alone for the first time in a while. In an unfamiliar city, no less. On the brightside, Auntie Agnes had offered to pick me up from the train station so I didn’t have to find her house by myself. I sent her a text to let her know I had arrived before resting my head against the grey stone wall behind me with a sigh.

-Marinette’s perspective-

“Tikki?” Marinette called to her kwami, notting her sudden alertness as she froze in place, wide eyes fixed on the open window.

“It can’t be…” The spotted kwami murmured, her high voice squeaking in surprise.

Before Marinette could ask what couldn’t be, an orange blur flew through the window and launched itself as Tikki, two voices squeaking together as they finally stopped spinning and were still enough for Marinette to see the second kwami clearly.

“It’s been thousands of years, I thought you were lost!” Tikki cried, embrace tightening around her forgotten friend.

“I thought I was lost too, but I was found! And now I’m here; my miraculous is ready to do good for the world again.” She exclaimed joyously.

She let go of Tikki to fly up to Marinette, examining her with a residual grin on her face.

“You must be Ladybug, it’s nice to meet you! I’m Faalen, the ginger cat miraculous.” She introduced herself, bowing.
Marinette giggled before returning the gesture.

“It’s nice to meet you too, Faalen. You were lost?” She greeted.

“For so long. I haven’t seen any other kwamis in so long.” She replied sorrowfully.

“Well, lucky for you, I am currently a guardian! There are kwamis in my miracle box...if you’d like to see them?” Marinette offered tentatively.

“Oh, please!” Faalen accepted.

After re-emerging from her reunion with the kwamis in Marinette’s miracle box, Marinette had a question for the kwami:
“Faalen, you mentioned your miraculous is ready to do good for the world again. I could keep it safe for you?”

“Thanks, but I already have a miraculous holder! She’s the one who found me, and we’ve been together since she was a child. There’s no one better for the job of the ginger cat superhero than her, I’m sure of it.” She assured her.

“Ok, I’ll trust you then. But please, could I meet her- in costume- at the eiffel tower tonight? That is, if she wants to?” She inquired.

“I’m sure she’ll say yes, she’s eager to meet other miraculous users! I should really go back to her now, we’re rarely apart- you see.” Faalen explained.

“Of course, I look forward to meeting her. You speak so highly of her, after all!” Marinette concluded in a friendly turn.

“Well we are just so close. I can’t imagine anyone being closer to their miraculous holder than I am to her.” The kwami boasted, shooting a smug look at Tikki.

“Really? It’s been thousands of years and you’re still trying to one-up me?” Tikki questioned dryly, a ghost of a smile on her face.

“What are you talking about? Don’t tell me you’re still jealous of my ability to get close to people? Faalen replied innocently although there was a mischievous look across her small features.

“I am absolutely not jealous!” Tikki protested.

“Whatever you say, sweetie!” Faalen laughed, flying out of the window.

“Uhh...Tikki, what was that about?” Marinette asked, surprised at the sassy words spoken by a previously sweet-tempered kwami.

“Faalen and Plagg have a certain...bond over their gross cat habits. For some reason, Faalen has always seemed to think I actually care about their weird friendship.” Tikki explained with a roll of her glassy eyes.

“I don’t know, you sound pretty bothered to me.” The girl teased.

“Marinette!” Tikki wailed.

-Kitty’s perspective-

I stood nervously on one of the platforms of the eiffel tower in my transformed form, nervously twiddling my striped orange and white baton in my hands, the furry handle at the bottom brushing against my fingers repeatedly. My usually untamable ginger hair was extended and tied back into a sleek plait (almost flawless, save from a few wisps at the front of my face) that faded into white at the end like a cat’s tail. Nestled inseparably on the top of my head was a headband with two fluffy ginger cat ears that seamlessly blended into the colour of my hair. Freckles peaked out from underneath the orange mask that framed my now cat-like blue eyes and my costume reflected the markings of my kwami; the only exception being what can only be described as extremely furry leg warmers (which were surprisingly not an inconvenience to various superhero activities).

“I take it you have the ginger cat miraculous?” You heard from behind you, causing you to jump.

“Ladybug!” You greeted, turning around to see the spotted superhero.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to make you jump.” She apologized, walking towards me with ease.

“Nah, I’m just a scaredy-cat.” I chuckled nervously, giggling at my own joke.

“What’s your hero name?” She asked amicably, raising an eyebrow at my pun.

“Amicat.” You responded simply.

“Amicat, I need you to tell me about your miraculous.” She implored me.

I showed her the ring on my finger, golden twines of metal centring around a cat-head shaped orange and white stone which strongly resembled a citrine crystal.
“Here it is. Faalen is the kwami of friendship, meaning I mostly function as a support to other miraculous holders. My power is called ‘boost’ and gives me the ability to add to other superheroes' powers, usually by being able to use them myself, creating a stronger combined force. Although I’ve never got the opportunity to use it yet, Faalen taught me how to do it and I’ve been practising using this miraculous since I was 5 years old. So I assure you I will be of use to the team in a fight.” I explained.

“Since you were 5 years old?” She pressed curiously.

“Yeah. That’s how old I was when I found my miraculous, and Faalen with it. I was digging for treasure by myself in the woods when I happened across it. I thought it was pretty, so I put it on my finger and began to walk home. That’s when Faalen popped out and swore me to secrecy. Soon, we spent everyday practising together until I was old enough to be a superhero. Then we saw Ladybug and Cat Noir on TV and knew we had to be in Paris. So here we are.” I announced, doing a small twirl.

The hint of an amused smile hesitated across her lips.

“I see. Don’t tell anyone your secret identity, and good luck!” She advised, swiftly using her yo-yo to glide away.

I was once again left alone in the still unfamiliar city of Paris.
